Man I really like that bumper treatment. That's very sharp. Nicely done.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with how it came out as well.

I really like the 3rd brake light in the rear spoiler . . . nicely integrated! I almost hate to say it but kind of disappointed with all the CF on your camaro after seeing your metal working skills. :D Nice updates and looking forward to seeing this one in person some day as a fellow Texan.

Thank you. No worries, carbon cuts and grinds easier then metal lol. I will say though, I think I'd find it easier to cut up metal than the carbon. Easier to fix if I mess up for me. Maybe not when I learn more about working it.

CamaroAJ 07-25-2016 08:01 PM

I've been working on the car more than pictures show and taking care of a few non car related things along with a problem with Anvil's warped deck lid. They are gonna make it right so I'm able to cross that problem off my list.

I got the vintage air mock up case mounted. It fit better with the modified firewall than I thought it would.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_105.jpeg

I've sanded about 90% of the EDP coating off the car.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_103.jpeg

I also picked up Marquez Design door panels from a fellow Lat-g member. They for sure need some work to fit right.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_104.jpeg

Hopefully I'll get more done this week. I feel like I'm stalled and not getting anything done.

CamaroAJ 07-31-2016 09:03 AM

So I figure out very quickly that I need all the windows and hardware to fit the door panels. So now that's in a holding pattern waiting on parts. I did check fitment with a seat though and everything fits close, but won't require and mods.

I did get started on a raised floor toe board though to hide my InfinityBox power modules. With the seats set back to match the engine set back it left a ton of foot room, so I'm not losing anything in this area. Plus it helps move weight lower in the car and is easy to get to if I need access to the fuses.

Start with cardboard to see how it looks and check clearance to the HVAC.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_106.jpeg

With it fit pretty good I went ahead and cut it in metal and rechecked the room behind it for the modules
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_107.jpeg

As I was pretty happy with the additional room I went ahead and cut a hole cover and bead rolled it. Now I need to build a frame to mount it to, mount the modules, and build a top enclosure to the firewall.

Those car lifts in the pic, what brand / model are they? They look good for someone that doesn't have the head height for a traditional 2 post lift. Do you know how deep the hole in the ground has to be to install them?

Keep up the great work!

Thank you.

The lifts are made by Rotary. They go about 10' into the ground and go up a little higher than normal above ground lifts. They are also a lot more expensive than normal above ground lifts, somewhere in the $7-8k range. I work for a Cadillac dealer and they let me work on the car here, other wise I'd be on jack stands just like everyone else.

I think it is an amazing build and love your skills. I do have one thing that I'm having trouble with and it's the rear bumper. I think it looks too big for the lines of the car but that's just me, and it might grow on me, sorry not trying to dis your ride at all, it's fantastic!!

Thank you.

It's just the way it looks in pictures. In person it's smaller. Also once it's pained black and the body is blue I think it will blend more and seem more integrated. This isn't a great angle, but its a little farther back.

DannyZ 08-25-2016 03:59 PM

I agree that being black will make a big difference in the look. Is the receiver hitch tube for strapping the car down or? Also, what cost will you have using that wiring system, I was looking into it but I thought it was about 4 times the cost of others out there?? And do you like it?

CamaroAJ 08-25-2016 04:28 PM

It's to pull a trailer with. One of those small trailers that a set of 4 slicks can fit on for track days and autocross.

I think I have somewhere around $3k in the InfinityBox set up. Yes it cost a lot more than other systems, but I liked what I could do with it such as the load limit shut off of the inMotion control and the iPad integration. Its pretty much endless possibilities to what you can control with it.

DannyZ 08-25-2016 06:23 PM

The trailer is what I thought, good idea....

CamaroAJ 10-16-2016 03:30 PM

Small update as I haven't done much with the car. Worked a deal with a friend for some parts I want which means big changes are coming to the car very soon and I'll have quite a few parts listed for sale too.

As I'm running modern door latches I found stock door handles won't work with them. After a lot of thinking about it I decided to go with electric handles and vette latches. I settled on the Lokar handles, but needed finger pockets.

To make the finger pockets I cut some MDF to the shape I wanted then started to pound out some metal.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0665.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0661.jpg

After I got it roughed out I smoothed everything out with the planishing hammer and made the lines a little more crisp with the bead roller.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0660.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0659.jpg

I think they'll look perfect with the overall look of this car.

CamaroAJ 10-16-2016 07:48 PM

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I think I'm going to hold off on cutting the doors until I get an English wheel so I can make sure I have the right slight curve in the metal.

I'm looking forward to starting on the new changes. :superhack:

A little more fitting then it will be ready to weld in. I'm way happy with how these look on the car.

Maybe I missed it but what is the plan with the door handles? Did you say you're using the vette setup? Is it capacitive or do you actually pull on the handle to open it? That does look really good on there.

Thank you.

Yes I'll be using vette latches as they are 12v and use a cable back up. Vettes have two cables on the driver latch, one in the foot well and one in the trunk in case the battery dies you can still open the door to pop the hood. My currant plan is to use the 12v latches on the outside and a cable on the inside. I'm going to use one cable on the door lock so I can just use a key to open the door if the battery dies or the latch were to fail.

CamaroAJ 10-18-2016 05:01 PM

I need to do a little hammer and dolly work, but the driver side is done other than that. These came out better than I thought they would. Hopefully I'll be able to get the passenger side done this week as well.

Beautiful job AJ.

We're loving the creativity and out-of-the-box thinking here. Its easy to throw together a build using parts that are readily available, but true dedication to make something completely custom and unique!

CamaroAJ 10-19-2016 06:39 PM

Thanks guys, lots of cutting coming soon. I did some rough measurements and I think what I'm planning just might work out like I hoped it would.

We need a like Button

CamaroAJ 10-23-2016 10:34 AM

Work was slow yesterday so I had some time to finish the passenger door handle. It too needs some hammer and dolly work, but it's mostly there.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0670.jpgh

Then I got the oil tank area cleaned up and ready to fit the tank in once I order it.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0669.jpg

Then I finished removing the EDP coating from the door

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0671.jpg

That's all for now. Hopefully going to pick up some new to me suspension today so I can start getting that handled.

CamaroAJ 10-30-2016 10:09 AM

Long story short, when I started this project originally I had something specific in mind. Basically I let people talk me out of what I wanted and into some choices I didn't really want when it came to my car. So after debating a lot about things with cost and how much of a set back it is, I decided that I can always make more money and I'd rather be happy in the end instead of regretfull.

So, here we go, starting all over with the suspension.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0674.jpg

A friend of mine wanted my speedtech front clip and as luck would have it, he had the full front and rear suspension, transaxle, torque tube, and a bunch of other parts from a '04 C5 Z06. We made a deal in which we both came out ahead and I got a little extra cash to help offset materials cost for the mods.

Now for the measurements, they are really close. As in borderline it might be possible to not cut suspension or outer body panels with a custom offset wheel. I'll be calling forgeline Monday to see how close I can get. This is where the stock offset wheels sit. They need to move in about 1.5"

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...o/IMG_0675.jpg

This is just a rough setup to get some measurements off of while I wait for the stock vette rear frame to show up. Based off a XLR we had at work I got some measurements off of, the outside to outside frame rail is 10" to wide to use in my car. However the inside to inside measurement does indeed fit inside the stock '69 outer rockers so I'd be able to run 2x3 or possibly 2x4 square tube in the rocker and use stock C5 fuel tanks as well. More to come on that as I get the car braced up, a frame jig built, and more cut out of the car.
