I've done some of my best work in a carport....come to think of it, not much gets done in the garage.

FETorino 06-26-2017 08:39 PM

I got a chance to run the car out at Buttonwillow with the new torque arm. It was a little looser into the corners but drove harder coming out so I'd say the time spent netted a gain.

DBasher 06-28-2017 11:25 AM

A little loose on entry isn't a bad thing, just look at Moto-x and GP bikes...Ken Block is loose on entry :D

If I could make a suggestion...now keep in mind I'm only a partial expert and not in the field of suspension or driving....or mustangs. Not so good with women or finances either, come to think of it I've really got no business giving any kind of advice. I did however attend one of Ron Suttons classes so that qualifies me as someone who has interest in the subject.
Here it is.
1) lower rear .5 psi
2) more cowbell

Good to see you're out having fun and making improvements.

I don't care who you are ... that is some funny stuff right there. :hail:

I talked to Gaetano (not really) and he said 10 psi (or maybe it was 100) in the shocks.... His advice was also to add two clicks to something, and to drive faster. The key is to be a better drag racer between all those stupid corners.

So what are you thinking?

And was the car looser or just the front or back? I'm guessing the back was loose on entry and the front was gripping.....Yup, that's what I think. Easy fix.

The TA swap was just a start. I'm no suspension Guru but I slept at a Holiday Inn the other night so here is the plan I came up with:

1 Call A suspension tuner
2 Put what he tells me to on the car.
3 Drive faster.

Solid plan!!

If you come to a tree (or DBasher), turn!

The point of the loose entry with the road race bikes is interesting, in that many don't do much, if anything, with rear brakes. On an opposite note, my go-kart racing experience at Nola Motorsports park two weeks ago showed that only having rear brakes can definitely loosen up the corner entry experience. The look, upon corner entry, is quite similar between the two vehicles.

In one case, we have pretty much no weight on the rear end (bike), and in the other, we have nearly all the weight on the rear (kart), and in both cases, we have sliding rear wheels (and stuck fronts). Freakin' gravity . . .

I figured you were dumbing it down for me, which I appreciate. :sieg:

If I'm reading the rules right..it looks like suspension is pretty wide open as long as the frame isn't modified and the upper rear shock mounting point is retained.
"Control arm mounting points are unrestricted" Nice!

And a maximum tire of 275 as long as you don't exceed the track width...hmm.

Looking forward to another Sutton Mustang makeover.

Not isn't doing anything radical to try and stay within a budget. The MM suspension bits will be retained but the spring and bar rates will be optimized. A new set of shocks and struts from Ridetech will dampen things correctly. Lastly the panhard bar mounts will be redone to allow for adjustment and an optimized rrch and I will run camber, caster and toe settings spec'd

You don't brake a go-kart in to a corner -- you downshift and accelerate!

That right there is a lot of tech.

Hi Robert

:action-smiley-027: Well I guess you are right. It will either prove the car sucked, or I did, so I guess I should be nervous. :relax:

Out with the old bar and in with the new bar.

http://<a href="http://s291.photobuc...psu1ouudif.jpg[/IMG]

Out back I swapped in a 1.88 wall thickness 7/8th bar for the old 1.20 bar.

The car will definately be running flatter in the corners.

Holy crap I didn't realize your existing front sway bar was the same size as your gas line. Man that's small.

Real bar going on next.

A guy who really knows his way around suspension tuning said the car had way too much body roll and was overloading the outside front tire.

I guess he may have been right. :twak:

I hope so. It's a drastic change in total roll stiffness between the old springs and bars and the new ones. Plus I would imagine an even more drastic delta in shock dampening between the Sutton valved Ridetechs and my parts store Bilstien/Koni combo.

Is the next outing Sonoma (I'll be there) and T-hill?

Because Rob is out of town "working" I'll update for him.
They've arrived and will probably be installed in the next 8 or 9 days.

And the stinky finger, aka, sneaky ringer has yet to give any details on what may or may not be a wicked track car.....

The best thing to do when you are intimidated by the slow car is bring a car with 200+ more hp. :poke:

Barely

The weekend started pretty dam rough rolling into Sonoma at 1am Sat morning.

Saturday afternoon I finally got on track and both sessions were black flagged so I got a whopping 6 laps in all Sat day.

Sunday started like this.

And ended like this

http://<a href="http://s291.photobuc...psydwzuwt3.jpg[/IMG]

Thanks to Ron Sutton for specing the Parts and Ron and Randy for dialing in my setup trackside.
