Real "craftsman" used to take that set of "extra" doors out of wagons like that......

Slight detour. We need to test this little Nova out. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psgsps6dmp.png |
Well we made it back to Orange County tonight. 2200 miles in less 96 hours - that's 4 days. :RunninDog:
Those that think we cheated with an LS powered vehicle (ok, we kinda did) should be reminded that it took us 11 days to get 3400 miles in Betsy the '74 ramp hauler. :action-smiley-027: Not too bad. And yes I am now an LS believer and embracer. :D Just like Rob's adopted policy of the reverse build thread for a Torino that may or may not ever be finished, this tight timeline trip (seems like I mentioned that before...hmmm) necessitated the use of some post-completion pics and commentary more than last time, so pardon the scattered order. The final cheers http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps2yl8daw6.jpg after crossing into CA - for some reason millions of people visit and move here :headscratch: http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psufuqxusn.jpg |
Hey Dave, Rob....
|
One of the last gas stops in Texas presented this sweet cap. I sent my wife some random pics later and included this... her response was "nice pics. minus the hat" :D
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps7pg3vwcl.jpg We made it to Tucson for a late dinner Saturday night. Rob found the proper dinner spot there clearly as an LS swapped C10 was on the screen in front of us at the bar when we walked in. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pshwijcqxq.jpg After striking out on a hotel room after nearly a dozen calls we trucked on to Phoenix metro and stayed in Chandler for the night. Rain X came in handy as the wipers were not our friend http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psxeksqpz4.jpg coffee shop bathroom wall sign in old town Gilbert - we had some near emergencies I think http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pse5cbep99.jpg |
If you didn't figure it out already we ran up the road to Barrett Jackson to spend a couple hours there before heading back to CA. Rob had been twice before briefly and I had not so it seemed like an obvious stop for such a trip
Stopped and said hello to Bret Voelkel at the Ridetech 48 hour C10 build. Gonna be sweet when finished. Cool concept he came up with there. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psobn1ztbt.jpg Found some other friends pretty quickly here http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psmso815qg.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pswrwzh5p0.jpg It was nice to see one of these actually put together http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps4w1oioda.jpg this car not compatible with yeti http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psdisgm7vt.jpg EBMC's Tenacity http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psea0c9iku.jpg Diesel FTW http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psmd7bp5bx.jpg Not according to the USCA.... http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psu3uxcyfd.jpg There's something for everyone at BJ --- for instance, here for Sieg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pscnlhixod.jpg This guy upgraded to the Greg Weld package here http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psolkcs6av.jpg |
Meanwhile back in Marfa, Texas....
We took a little longer to get out of that town because Rob noticed the rear sway bar and end links were not really installed properly and were (1) making a nice thunk noise on bumps that we attributed to the sweet air shocks, and (2) putting a hurtin on the frame rail (pic doesn't quite do it justice) http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psoxdvmvhr.jpg "Bird" the welder.... and project collector... beer drinker... general comedian... husband to the proprietor of the Buns n Roses cafe in front of his hobby hut.... let us borrow some tools... http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pslngpi15m.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psp4fsf8ar.png http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psed7jgubf.jpg Wish we took more pics here but between being in a hurry to get on the road and shooting the breeze with Bird and his cronies for awhile we didn't get much. Sway bar removal was a great call by Rob even though Gaetano advised against it. No more thunks and frame rail saved from further damage, and full travel of the rear leafs was restored. Can attest to that improvement above 100 mph. :rules: I think Rob has a pic of Bird's 1600 mile OG C5 he is gonna take to BJ to sell one day. :ohsnap: |

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psb46bc2vz.jpg Do enjoy the hotels you can park your old precious ride 8 feet from your bed http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psavhsi4jm.jpg high end continental breakfast in Fort Davis, TX - 20 miles from Marfa http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psp194nlsw.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps8zvoxzzt.jpg |
You have to know on this one that this Prada store is literally miles and miles from civilization... in the middle of nowhere..... so naturally there was some kind of weird wedding or wedding scene being played out there as we drove by at speed

Verdict is in: the wife loves it.
2900 miles covered Wednesday to Monday 17-20 mpg I could not afford to fly in Danny Popps so I had to do my own proofing above 100 mph - she passed with flying colors. even better after Rob MD's sway bar removal. Thanks for following along everyone. Until next time.... http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psd32b3msq.jpg she did not love me losing the gas cap though  http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psslnu7r42.jpg in her final but temporary resting place :animated_bye_bye_em http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psue2cqdbq.jpg |
