I’m no expert on CA emissions but if an E-Rod set is legal than this set up should be CA legal. Again I’m no expert.

It’s legal in MI... lol

Any updates? How’s it running?

Truck is running great. I have right at 1000 miles on it now. Driveline works flawlessly. I swapped the mufflers to get rid of a drone at 80 mph. We went though 3 mufflers until we have a system with no drone. Sound like a Denali now.

Still working on some 1978 Blazer issues like a noise from the A/C lines. I'll get it sorted out when I get some free time.

Love just banging around in it. I drove it to work this morning.

Mark, it was GREAT meeting you today. Thanks so much for taking time to go over the salsa red with me and introduce me to Cerakote!

Blazer looked amazing! Very cool build bud.

Thanks again!

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you use the E-rod motor, computer and required equipment that goes along with it.

Started a new project on the Blazer to add 2018 Tahoe brakes rotor, calipers, master and booster.

Same junk yard place I got the engine and stuff from.

First thing is convert the front rotor to 5 on 5 bolt circle.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b59f194e0a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8a09d2b3f3.jpg

Next is to make a bracket to add caliper to spindle.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...41bd32d2b8.jpg

I had to make a template the convert that to a CAD drawing. Then a mock up part.

Nice upgrade! Did you get lucky with the rotor and caliper offset matching the original offset? Or was there some spacers/milling to make it work?

jeff71 08-04-2019 10:25 PM

Stock spindle? I'm surprised those Detroit Steel wheels required so little balance weight.

No I had to use CCP spindles that have a nice boss to build a adaptor off of.

No a CCP spindle with a drop built in

I have read mixed reviews on the CPP stuff in general, ie quality issues. Glad to hear a real world use ! It's really tough trying to sort through reviews and figure out whos giving honest opinions.

Jeff-

Honestly.... They (the peoples opinions of CPP) probably all are. CPP is hit & miss. Some stuff is good as is. Some stuff not so much. The follow-up when you (the little guy/John Q. Public) do have an issue leaves you wondering how they remain in business.

I added 2018 Tahoe brake booster and master. I cut the brake booster brackets off the 1978 Blazer booster. The amazing thing is the rivet pattern matched the 2018 Tahoe booster. I changed the angle and it bolted up. I had to rework the brake booster rods but over all fairly straight forward.

Curious.... Was this to simply keep the paired components together or is there some specific benefit to using the 2018 Tahoe booster vs. a 78 version?

Stielow 08-12-2019 08:39 AM

Brake pedal feel. By putting the booster and master together and coping the pedal ratio of the Tahoe the brake pedal feel should be the same as the Tahoe. The only wild card is how keeping the rear drum brakes will effect things. If it is not good I’ll add the dicks to the back.

The 1978 booster had very poor brake pedal feel.

I also wanted the look of the modern booster and master.

To further update the truck I also added the Detroit Speed wiper motor and windshield squirters.

Hope to drive it as soon as I put the seats back in it. They are out getting redone with Chevy Highland Plaid material.

CRCRFT78 08-15-2019 08:27 AM

What did you do about the rear end and gearing? 10 or 12 bolt, 1 leg or posi?

Stock 12 bolt open diff. It is DEAD quite. I though about a post but it works great with no noise. I’m a little afraid to mess with it.

Again not a track car so on open is fine.

New seat covers going in today. This was on option on some GM products I think, called “Highland Plaid”. I’ll post some photos when we get it back together.

Great work as always.

I assume your braking split is front/rear in this vehicle, but do you ever do diagonal in your other builds? If not, reason? Thanks

I just completed the Goodguys Hall of Fame Tour East. I traveled 2500 miles with no issues.

I made some upgrades prior to the trip. New plaid interior. New Detroit Speed intermittent wipers and washers.

The old truck ran with Lillard’s Riv on the twisty back roads with no issues other than sliding all over the seat.

I did a CA legal swap on a 1993 RX7 with a 2002 Camaro donor back in 2005-2006 (before the E-Rods).

It was not that bad, all things considered. Only real PITA was the evap system for the fuel tank. I ended up fabricating an adapter to put the OEM Camaro fuel bucket into the RX7 tank.

It may take you a few trips to the BAR Referee to get every little detail ironed out; however, I'd not hesitate to give it a go seeing how well everything fits in the truck.

One wildcard - check to see if the donor is of the same category/class as the truck in the eyes of CARB. IIRC, you can't put a medium duty motor in a passenger vehicle and vice versa.
