I mounted the rear Speakers. Infinity Kappa's 6x9 3ways. I glued a 3/16 board to the back of the divider, cut out the holes, added carpet to the back, and then mounted the speakers.

Well, the car is almost ready for paint. A few surprises here though.
Biggest surprise, the front flares and fender rocker panels cut from the fiberglass fenders and moulded on to steel fenders. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...t3-15-2007.jpg Front nose is a bolt on piece now! The upper nose piece was by far the most time consuming. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...3-15-20071.jpg Rear end caps have nice and tight gaps. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-007S.jpg And they are bolted on. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-005S.jpg Upper and lower side scoops, rocker panel and rear flares finished. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-004S.jpg I'm going to Dallas on Monday to check it out in person! |
Interior Panles
I repainted the panels with the NAPA 4003 Texture product and Krylon BBQ Paint. Even with the flash, it does not reflect like the other hammered stuff. It doesn't matches the original panels exactly, but is very close.

I rebuilt the vent wings. Even after many hours of polishing, it does not remove the pitting. But it is better than it was. New rubber inside, on the front door edge, and new felt lines the window channel. The only special tools need to repair these items is a narrow rivet gun, and a small punch (I used a small drill bit) to drive out the roll pin to replace the wing locks.

I inspected the car today. They are not as far along as I would like them to be, but the work looks very good. There is still so much that needs to be done!!!!
Trunk fitment: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...LidFitment.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...idFitment1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...idFitment2.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...idFitment3.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...idFitment4.jpg |
I cut the bezel from the back using a cutting disc on my 4" grinder, twisted the piece out, and finished it with a die grinder.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...oBezelCuts.jpg Then I mounted the JVC KD-NX5000. It fits very nicely. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...tedInBezel.jpg |
I purchased the interior vent grills from Mustang Depot and mounted them in the sail panels. They fit very good.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...VentGrills.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...entGrills1.jpg |
Cam,
I bought the Optima Battery and put it in the brackets. My dilemma is.. should I mount it with the side mount cables hidden (to the passenger side) or have them visible from the inside? How about facing rear and closer to the back so they are not that visible? http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...thebracket.jpg Here is how I have seen one mounted, but it is not the Mustang Billet box! http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...BatteryBox.jpg |
Here is the official dyno results. It is set at 10 lbs boost, and 38 degrees timing. The EFI is pulling out 1 degree of timing for every pound of boost. That will kill some horsepower, but I could add a switch and have a second tuning table for a higher octane gas. That is for when I REALLY need some get up and go! :captain:
You guys think I need NOS? :wow: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...DynoSheet2.jpg |

Paint is going on the car!
Doors & front fenders have been painted and the stripes have all been laid out. Tungsten Silver (new Ford GT color) stripe on Black, with a gold 1/16" pinstripe. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-033S.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-031S.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-030S.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-029S.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/MVC-028S.jpg |
Painted, well partially

Front Fenders, Hood, Doors & Trunk Installed
|
Window Glass
I took the door glass to have it installed to a local glass company who gave me a good price. When I arrived with the glass and the frames with the old glass already removed, they agreed on the price of $20 for each piece. I talked with the installer and asked him to protect the pieces as this is an old car. The installer said "That is off of and old Mustang, isn't it?"
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Installed3.jpg I left there impressed and felt assured that everything was OK. You could image how I felt the next day when I called and they said that he had broken one of the pieces. He broke the lower swivel pin off the driver side vent window. Long story short, they offered me a $20 refund at their main office. I was asking them to pay for a replacement piece. While giving me the refund the lady said "You got a good price!" Then it hit me. The old saying of "You will remember the poor quality long after the low price is forgotten." I fixed it with Silver solder, flux and buffing. Tried to break it back off. That thing is not going anywhere. I will finish the glass install myself. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...sInstalled.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Installed1.jpg |
More Pictures
Well, 15 days later and it is still not finished!!!!! [image noborder]http://www.artnskins.net/e107_images/emoticons/argh1.gif[/image]
Only things left are the GT500E Stripes, driver door handle, rear light panel (I was told it was being installed as we were talking), rear quarter panels (shouldn't take long, I know they are finished but might not be painted), and the rear bumper. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...of4-20-071.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...of4-20-077.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...of4-20-072.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...of4-20-074.jpg |

Car Delivered
Well, the car and the engine have been delivered.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Delivered3.jpg [image]http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l259/rsowell_2006/CarEngineDelivered16.jpg[/image] http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...elivered34.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...elivered36.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...elivered50.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...elivered18.jpg |
Throttle Body
A pic of the throttle body & EFI Harness. Harness looks pretty intimidating at first. But once you go over the connections a few times, it is pretty straight forward. There is just a lot of it!
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...rottleBody.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...EFIHarness.jpg |
Bell Housing
I installed the backing plate. Had to drill out a hole where Keith Craft put in a plug that was sticking out.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ckingPlate.jpg |
Bell Housing 2
Then I installed the bell Housing without the clutch or pressure plate to check the transmission centerline alignment. Good thing I did. I will have to replace the dowel pins with offset dowel pins. It was .050 total off. Divided by two (center) and I need the .025 (closest .021) pins.
If you do not do this procedure, you can have "pilot bearing wear, main shaft bearing wear, difficulty in shifting, and in extreme cases breakage of transmission gears and cases". http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...gAlignment.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Alignment1.jpg |
Battery Box & Remote Battery Disconnect Installed
I installed the battery box and remote disconnect, and got them wired.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...Installed1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...hInstalled.jpg |
PIAA Bacup Lights
I once was told that Unique Performance "glues" the PIAA backup lights in the rear valance. They can be mounted using the included brackets very easily.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ckupLights.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...kupLights1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...kupLights2.jpg |
Wheels & Tires
Wheels & Tires mounted. And a little more....
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eswheelson.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...swheelson1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...swheelson3.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...swheelson4.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...swheelson2.jpg |
Fast Xfi
Installed the FAST XFI box behind the glove box. it fits pretty well back there. Along with all that electrical harness. I also Cut a hole in the firewall for the wiring.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/PIC_0265.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ngtoEngine.jpg And I finished the alarm system mounting, but not all the final electrical connections. For an old man like me, all that bending over, laying upside down, under the dash is tough! http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/PIC_0263.jpg |
Be3ll Housing Problem
The bell housing is a big problem. The dowel pins in the block are very tight. I called Keith Craft and he told me that he had a kit and I did not need to remove those dowels. Got the kit, it includes longer dowel pins and a larger washer that welds to the outside of the bell housing. Just drill out the original holes to a larger size, move the bell housing in to place, and weld on the washers. Will call Keith again tomorrow and verify that I DO need to pull those pins.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ocatingKit.jpg |
Wiring
Been working on the wiring. The front end is almost complete. All the lights are in position, wired, working and aligned (as well I can with them pointing at the garage door).
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...htsMounted.jpg |
James Bond Items
Installed item: Electric windows, power door locks, alarm system with paging, Bluetooth, GPS map, rear camera, remote window roll down, remote start and tracking GPS.
Things still on the list: Rotating license plates, front & rear bullet deflector, oil slick, telescoping tire slasher, passenger ejector seat, front mounted machine guns, extending side skis, spike-producing tires, missiles, lasers (an update on the DB5's tire-slasher), signal-intercepting smart radio, head-up display, rocket propulsion, self-destruct mechanism and adaptive camouflage. ha ha Now wouldn't that be a trip. |
Two Steps Forward, One Back
I was stewing about how I was going to get those dowel pins out without hurting that aluminum block. So I designed a dowel pin puller out of a piece of pipe, a grade 8 bolt, nut and two washers. With a little welding it worked great. Anybody that has a Shelby/Aluminum block take note. They were in there tight.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...lPinPuller.jpg Centered the bell housing and welded the washers in place. Looks factory after I painted them, huh. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...tInstalled.jpg Ready to go. No. Wait. My pressure plate is a diaphragm, and the flywheel is designed to the long finger (or Ram) pressure plate. Well, after a long discussion with Keith Craft and Rob in Plano, we are making a change. Dual disc clutch setup. Clutch, pressure plate and flywheel all with be changed. So I just assembled what I could. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ssurePlate.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...teFlywheel.jpg |

Weight to HP
I just did a Weight to HP calculation:
The Corvette Z06 weighs in at 3132 lbs and has 500 HP, giving it a Weight to HP conversion of 6.27 lb/hp. The Ferrari Enzo weighs in at 3009 lbs and 660 HP, giving it a weight to HP conversion of 4.56 lb/hp If my car weighs 3500 lbs. and 815 HP, my Weight to HP conversion is 4.30 lb/hp. woo hoo http://www.powwows.com/gathering/ima...ies/aetsch.gifhttp://www.powwows.com/gathering/ima...ilies/bump.gif http://www.powwows.com/gathering/ima...idinghorse.gif Move over Ferrari |

Engine Installed
Engine has been set in the engine bay. Headers have not been installed yet. I just wanted to see the fit. You can see by some of the red circles in the photos that I have some clearance issues. Anybody installing the shock tower bracing and a FE engine will have to do what I am going to do. I need to grind down the upper areas to clear the header bolts. VERY TIGHT!
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ineInstall.jpg Driver side front: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eInstall21.jpg And I was wondering if where I have cut through the firewall was going to work. It will work just fine: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eInstall31.jpg I mounted the fuel pressure regulator first: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...neInstall8.jpg Good thing I have a high hood: http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eInstall11.jpg |
Wheel Clearance
But the engine weight only lowered the car a little bit and didn't change the stance very much:
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...neInstall9.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eInstall10.jpg |
Headers Installed
I installed the headers. A shoe horn and a little grease was needed.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...sInstalled.jpg They are touching the shock towers. I may need to loosen the motor mounts and lift the engine. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...eshocktowe.jpg I started hooking up the oil and PS lines. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...sconnected.jpg I hooked up all the EFI wiring, some water hoses, vacuum/boost lines and other little things. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...umlineWate.jpg |
That's going to be a whole lotta shakin going on
|
Wiring almost done!
Almost finished with the interior wiring. All the alarm triggers work, lights, radio, radio dimmer, speakers, backup camera, console lights, etc etc. The only thing that doesn't work is the remote start. I probably have a wire in the wrong place. 12 hours today. Its gonna have to wait till tomorrow.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/PIC_0350.jpg The radio faceplate has 4 tilt positions. It remembers the position when you turn it back on. This is position 3. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...6/PIC_0351.jpg |
