I test fit the glass and top dash. The dash fit well enough to install the windshield but I decided to work it some more to get it where I wanted it.

Things line up better and have a more consistent depth with the glass now. I can't wait to get to the point of installing it. The car strangely seemed more complete with it mocked up.

We wanted to maintain the collapsable feature of the column along with taking advantage of the telescoping and tilt so we spent a good portion of the day figuring out the best way to shorten the new column and how to make a cover sleeve that would taper down and fit behind the NRG hub. My dad milled down the column tube factory upper mount locations and modified the 68 upper mount so it would bolt together and to the dash the same as the factory. The internal shaft is a 2 piece double D collapsable design so I drilled out the injection molded pins to move up a few inches for new plastic pins.

My dad didn't like the factory open area for the shift tube on the steering box side of the column so he cut the outer tube and re-cut the notches for the bottom bearing and retainer. Looks much cleaner and won't allow dirt to get inside so easily.

I'm hoping to get it assembled and painted in the next couple weeks. Working on the car one day a week isn't enough. :)

Nothing really to post from last Saturdays work. Cleaned up and primer'd some parts, mocked up the shifter, and put the car on the wood blocks for easier access. Steering column's back together today so I should be able to put that back in this weekend. Just about ready to bring it home for body work.
