Yeah right....

PSV 02-07-2010 09:39 AM

What are the chances of having another set of the condensor brackets made? I have an extra 1" bore wilwood master I would trade for a set. Its new I just went with a black one in 7/8 instead. I would also gladly purchase a set if possible.

Vegas69 02-07-2010 09:48 AM

I'm interested, let me check and make sure he saved the file.

PSV 02-07-2010 09:57 AM

That would be great. Thanks!

DFRESH 02-07-2010 01:04 PM

Todd---in regards to the upper bars (on G-Bar setup) did you get rid of the both the bushings (front and rear) and convert to rod ends/heim joints, or did you keep one side as is and covert the other?

I have pics of your lowers and know you kept the poly front bushing on it and converted the rear of the bar.

Thanks bro.

Doug

Vegas69 02-07-2010 02:30 PM

I converted both. I felt that they would take most of the punishment on the race track.

Vegas69 02-09-2010 09:15 PM

Nothing to exciting. I'm just getting as ready as possible for my new engine. I managed to order 2 fittings the wrong size from vintage air or I'd have the unit in the dash and done... I did start crimping some lines. I've been spending some time at the nursing home trying to keep this old guys spirit up. He just happened to have a crimper he borrowed me. Thanks Greg! :D

I cleaned all my accessories and they are ready to go back on. I also brushed my puke tank and coolant resorvoir. I sealed them with metal sealer. They are supposed to sit a day or two before wiping it off. I'll be running 2 puke tanks so I'll have to go through the whole process on the new one to match it. I had them both polished up and looking pretty. Wasn't feeling it.

I pulled apart my accumulator to clean out all the old oil and possible debris even though it's after the oil filter. What a bitch getting that thing apart. I got all the oil out of it with some brake cleaner and then headed for the kitchen to was everything with soap and hot water. I got caught in the act and she didn't say a word. Anytime I deal with internals, I like to use paper towels. It's clean as a whistle and back together. I thought some of you might be interested in the inner working of an accumulator. Super simple piece that most engine builders swear by.

Nice crimper!

Have a glass of vegetable juice before using it - makes it work better!

Just wait till you start washing parts in the dishwasher. ;)

GregWeld 02-10-2010 07:32 AM

Maybe she saw sparkly metal and thought it was a ring??

waynieZ 02-10-2010 11:54 AM

If she thought it was a ring and it wasn't, he would have been in alot more trouble than just washing parts in the sink.

Is your engine just about done Todd? Any word on it?

syborg tt 02-11-2010 12:19 PM

I've always loved seeing picture of this car. I never new there was a build thread on the car.

Wow you have done an incredible job documenting the build of this car.

Vegas69 02-12-2010 06:10 PM

Thanks Marty, it's as much bull ****ting as it is car stuff. I enjoy it.

Tone, it will be next week. Jason called today and the rods were hitting in an unusual place between the cylinders and camshaft. It's all clearanced now but that meant going from the assembly room back to the dirty area. He normally dry test fits everything but didn't expect issues since the paperwork clearly states the block will clear up to a 4.375 stroke. Evidentally the H beams are a little chunkier than GM used to spec out the block. Just a small bump in the road.

GregWeld 02-12-2010 06:22 PM

Todd --

It's the proverbial 3 lbs of S*** in a 1 lb can...

Motor guy came to the shed today... and it's amazing all the little details they have to watch for with these "special" blocks... and mine isn't really so special... but we have to remember to use a small base circle cam... and .300 taller lifters... and a pan that's made for a wider rail... and...

Better he found out then, then if it got back to you in that condition. But, like you said, they are a reputable engine builder.
Good deal. Keep us posted bud!

waynieZ 02-13-2010 02:35 PM

It will be like a double blueprint build because he will be checking the assemble again.

Vegas69 02-16-2010 06:05 PM

Now that I'm running dual crankcase puke cans, I had to find a clean place to mount the coolant recirculating tank. I want to keep the crankcase vent fittings, hoses, and tanks in harmony. So I decided to draw me up another sketch and send it over to my trust water jet guy.I designed it so it would all but disapear. I also brushed this tank and sealed it. I'll be using -6 fittings and hoses. The bracket will get the krylon touch in semi gloss to blend in with the inner fender.

I also began mocking up the new radiator. I want to use the same holes as with the old radiator. I asked for the mounting tabs to be blank. I decided to wait until the engine is back in to locate my holes. They don't call it a big block for nothing. It's tight between all my accessories and the cooling fans. I'll wait so I can jockey it around and make sure I have proper clearance. It's going to look great in there.

Nice!

Next time you show your hands in a pix -- throw some dirt on 'em.

Todd I like the lower mount for you radiator. can you even still use that book with all the stuff you have to the car:lol:

I really like the recovery tank Todd!! How did you brushed it? I need to do same for my billet specialties polished one.

Vegas69 02-17-2010 06:42 AM

I polished it, then used red scotch brite with even strokes multiple times. Then sealed it.

Nice progress, and looks like today will be the day this thread hits 100k views

Vegas69 02-17-2010 09:35 AM

You mean take a 1/2 hour job and turn it into a 2-3 hour job. :unibrow: I really enjoy this little stuff that makes the car unique to your own taste. I'll be designing a coil bracket for the intake when the engine is ready.

tones2SS 02-17-2010 09:39 AM

As usual, awesome Todd.
You do a lot of work on your own car, which is great. And looks awesome too.
Keep us posted buddy!!

Look whos talking, " done " is not in either of your vocabulary.

Vegas69 02-17-2010 07:42 PM

I'm actually open to letting you guys test her out. It's close to where I want it for the feature. It will have to be good enough once the new engine is in and I make some tweaks for the better under the hood. The rear sway bar should loosen the car up just enough to to help rotate the ass end in teh slow autocross corners and slalom. Between that and losing 150lbs on the nose, it will be interesing.

Agreed Matt, never done but this motor deal was part neccesity and part snowball.:unibrow: There are a few exterior cosmetic things I'm kicking around now that the Forgelines are full time. Racing and having fun are first on the list.
