Rodger, sorry to hear about Jake...

Great work on that '55.

ironworks 06-29-2011 06:09 AM

Thanks, But the work has only begun on the 55. We plan for some really nice details on the car. The customer has a real good idea of what he is looking for.

Ricochet 06-29-2011 07:17 AM

55 looks killer Rodger! I'm seriuosly jealous! :D

Sorry to hear about Jake. He is a great dog!

Well the month of July has been a real busy one. Broc and I flew to Des Moines to meet the Hauler at the Goodguys show at the Iowa State Fair grounds. On the weekend of what some said was the hottest days on record in Iowa, Broc and I jumped in the Goodguys Giveaway car and headed toward Columbus on a 3 day journey with the top down. WARNING this story is trying to be posted with only the pics from my crappy phone camera because my regular camera was forgotten on my desk in California.

Here is picture from Monday morning after the show when were leaving the hotel.

This picture was taken on I-80 I believe east with the hammer down. At this point we realize that sunscreen might be good. We sat on the side of the road waiting for the road tour group for The Goodguys Road tour group to catch up to us. Well we finally gave and headed to the First stop, Yogi's Street Rod parts somewhere in Iowa, Near some corn.

So after that road stop and meeting the group that just wanted to sit in the HOT HUMID SUN ad talk and talk. We head toward some town on the Mississippi River for Dinner and some small Iowa car show. I will tell you there is lot of corn in Iowa.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...55/onroad4.jpg

So Tuesday morning Broc and I got up early to back track 30 miles to Fast Lane Rod Shop in BFE Iowa. When I tell you his place is in the middle of no where. Our first attempt to get to his place was looking like we had to go down a dirt road. So we drove around some big ass corn fields and some more corn fields to find a half mile paved drive driveway that may lead to the only trees in Iowa. I tend to think Dave Lane is one of the most talented and nicest guys in the industry. He does everything himself except interior. And wins big awards with every car. www.fastlanerodshop.com

So back on the road and on our way to Rad Rides.

So after Rad Rides, ( Sorry No pics ) Just check out their site, WOW is all I have to say, We were off to Indy. We stayed the night at a fellow Lat-G members house. He feed us like kings and gave us some much needed non Hotel AC for the night. Then was able to pull off a shop tour at Chip Ganassi racing. They would not allow pics, not that We could have done anything more then a crappy Cell phone pic, but HOLY COW, I had some serious shop envy.

We stopped to refuel after every 180 mile stretch for food and drinks and shade. Remember that sunscreen we bought on Day 1, well it did not work. We were burnt to a crisp. My ears looked like pork rinds. That stuff was junk. But we were traveling about 80mph and pulling down in the neighborhood of 23 mpg with that LS3 E-rod engine.

So while we were out on the road, The boys at the shop were hard at it. The 48 chassis is still waiting for the body to come back from paint.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2011023.jpg

We made some slick tabs to hold the Upper Bleed lines to connect to the radiator from the water jackets to hold the Line neatly.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2011020.jpg

We did some work to the bolt on steering arms to get the bumpsteer down to .054 over 5" of travel. We are then having new arms machined for that tie rod position.

The 1960 ford truck, is getting some small details done to keep the owner of the 48 truck interested who is having this built for his son-in-law. We did some hood mods to clean up the grille opening.

You will have to see it with the emblem installed and the center done. It sure likes like it should have.

The One Lap Camaro part 2 car is coming along nicely.

All the Speedtech suspension is installed. We made a few cuts to the front fender to allow the car to clear a 315 front tire. We are also waiting to see if we can pull off some ABS ideas on the car. The power for this project has been ordered from GM performance parts and is on it's way.

It still looks pretty factory, I suppose.

We cut out the original package tray and built a new rear firewall to exclude the ATL fuel cell from the passenger compartment.

Once the engine and trans show up, Along with the Large Diameter Speedtech headers, we will get everything mocked up. We are also waiting on a front wheel to double check all out front fender work with a 315 tire all around. Once all that stuff is together we will set up seat location and begin the rollcage construction.

In other news the Donkey Kong Camaro should also return next week from paint. So final assembly will begin on that. The Cognito Motorsports 56 chevy should be just about ready for paint and body in the next few weeks. The 55 Chevy should be not to far behind the 55 to paint work also.

I have been buried in design work for the 58-64 Impala chassis. We hope to have a chassis mock up at Pleasanton next month.

Great pics.

BTW Rodger, what's the differences between the 58-64 full size Chev chassis vs. the 65-70's?

syborg tt 07-21-2011 08:15 AM
