Yea it's a whole different ball game building a motor rather than assembling. I'm an assembler. I've put together a lot of motors but when it came time for my project and started buying parts that cost real $$ and were hard to find I found someone who really knew their stuff. I remember when I started my build I though I knew exactly what the motor should be. What I have now is similar to what I planned but will far exceed what I would have built. Your stoked on working with your builder. I know the feeling

I've said it before... I like to do more with less. :D

Hey no offense on that assembler comment -- hell I don't even qualify for that!

And yeah... totally enjoying and feeling confident in this new motor and that's 95% due to the engine builder. I already feel the pressure of properly maintaining it and caring for it. :willy:

Sometimes I click on your thread without bothering to read it just in the hope that "Badmotorfinger" might one day have more views than Payback. Today I bothered to read it, and well... I haven't been missing out on much, just some guy's birthday, (happy birthday Jerry) and some youtube videos, etc.

If you dig back far enough you'll find some info about a case of CI phobia and infatuation with small carbs
Yea and a couple cheap shots @ assemblers :P

Vegas69 05-03-2012 09:12 PM

I checked and Larry is about 10,000 views behind me. :unibrow: Dave's got 1000 posts in his thread with 10 contributors.

 Nice.

It's not that small for a 386 cube motor according to the custom carb tuners I've talked to recently. Could it be bigger? Sure, but I stressed maintaining throttle response and low end crispness. In CFM terms (which is the wrong way to rate or look at carbs I've learned) it's probably between 800 and 900 if it was flowed. That's not small to me. My venturi and throttle bore sizing is consistent with 400 inch motors making 650-700 hp. Got that from 2 sources.

Lemme guess, you have a combined 2000 CFM on your double dueler. :D :willy:

Just messing with you while my assembler wounds heal. :(

Right now I only own a list 8082 1050 dominator for my single plane manifold.

My builder has a set of duals he knows run well that I am borrowing for the dyno session with the double dueler. :D I think he actually stars with 3310 bodys when he build them. I know he is also bringing a set of 660 center squirters.

Killer. Your motor might be the only one on this site I am as excited about as mine. :D

In my 18 degree head research I found this cylinder head company and these valve covers they make. I really wanted a set but they only make them in BBC and declined my request to make a set for SBC.

I didn't really wanna be "that guy" and have something engraved on my car with a made up car name... *cough.Payback.cough*....

That's why I loved it when I saw it.. it's subtle and not intended for me. Plus they make killer heads so maybe someone will think I have their heads :D and they look clean and not too loud. Oh well. I'll likely have Watson do a set of theirs if it isn't like $500 since I like supporting them and their logo I like.

Thanks for the link. Nice looking stuff though. I may change my mind. :)

Damn, I must have missed that. I hate to admit it, but I was probably trying to give Todd a run for his money by posting pictures of my broken engine with my Camaro build :_paranoid I'm afraid of what I might read through clicking back 10 or so pages. I'll check it out when I'm feeling brave!

Matt

p.s. I have a new intake manifold on the way, and while it isn't a carb, I'll be sure to post pictures of it for you right here, just like FETorino did.

Exactly why I just made a donation to their cause. Well and that I only have them to thank for discovering an amazing low rider PT 69 with skinnies on all 4 and a nice pile of parts that will be on ebay eventually instead of on the car.

How's that big blingy 2000 hp floater kit? :lateral:

I'm open to that, and I like the sheetmetal covers but I've always just used the covers that came with my motor at the time. I feel like I wanna make my own decision on this one.

But since I'm already guilty this is what carb stuff looks like.
