Hey that's classic! :thankyou: Yeah the adhesive is messy and I must have gone through 12 pairs of gloves and half a roll of shop towels but it's done right!!!

gofastwclass 12-07-2016 09:06 PM

I think there is a hardware store near your house missing all their clamps. Hahaha

Nice job on the panels.

waynieZ 12-08-2016 08:37 PM

Nice job! you'll have it ready to roll in no time.

DT69Cam 12-09-2016 12:45 PM

Just curious here, why did you decide to go with the adhesive as opposed to welding them in ?? Thx

Because welding was what the General did 49 years ago and look where that got me! Seriosly thou, the adhesive not only bonds but also is a seam sealer so no moisture is ever gonna get between the two pieces of metal. And bonding 1 foot of mini tub is much stronger vs spot welding every few inches, PLUS there is no corrosion going on behind the scenes as with welding!

Oh yeah, and you don't have to grind down any welds just use a flexible sanding block and sand just smooth, nice and easy!!

Made a BIG mess ..... getting the roof and the quarter panel ready, getting the roof on tomorrow after some finessing and then shoot some epoxy.

That was the last of the EDP coating I'll do on this car and would like to thank DeWalt for a great drill that never let me down, lol!

Mission accomplished ... roof is on!! My buddy came down to help me get the roof finalized for bonding, only took five trial fits to get it right where I wanted, it's on there and straight. Thanks Challen for helping ... your Challenger roof is next :popcorn2:

I am using 3M panel bond 08115 with their application gun!

snappytravis 12-11-2016 11:54 AM

Looking good, I just glanced at a few pictures, I will have to go back and read through it some more. Making progress! How was the quality of the roof panel? Did it fit nicely?

waynieZ 12-11-2016 03:13 PM

Now there's some nice progress! It looks good.

Che70velle 12-11-2016 06:11 PM

Chief, you have THE finest example of total rust removal from a home based build that I've seen! Very good work indeed!

Travis, the AMD roof needed the windshield corners rebuilt other than that it fit good, little trimming here and there!

Get the car detailed, lol! :thankyou:

Been busy with this and that ... made the junction where the lower quarter panel to trunk dropoff meet (both sides are done!) and got that all squared away; welded the frame connectors to rear frame; sanded and prepped the underbody for Lizard Skin and started mocking up the rear window filler panel w the drip rails and hinges. I'm sure there is something I'm missing ...

Ordered a new OE dash top and that arrived today, WOW .... the first panel I don't have to modify :RunninDog: Great stamp just like OEM so I brought out the DeWalt and got her ready for epoxy. Glad I waited for this piece cuz the other one was APOS!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/ct5eiZ.jpg
Moser center is here!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/3FaoAw.jpg
Getting the window filler panel ready for attaching!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/d9Kk1z.jpg
Geting that drip rail in is a trick and a half, epoxy is next and bond!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/48bjVc.jpg
Prepping the inside window trim for epoxy!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/tOArHN.jpg
Details is what makes this panel superior to the other POS!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/14EEXh.jpg
Got the EDP off and ready for epoxy!

Well, there you have it, waiting for my Speed Tech tunnel to arrive here Tuesday, do the tunnel T56 mods and then get some epoxy, Lizard Skin and single stage urethane on the underside. IF the weather cooperates :bang:

Thanks for looking ...

Oh here is the passenger side completed!

Wow--somebody's crazy-motivated here. I hope to be nearing your progress level mid-way through next week, or maybe nearer the end . . .:bigun2:

This car stuff is an excellent cure for an end of year/term brain demolition exercise.

camarodude87 12-17-2016 03:45 PM

Great build. I wish I had the skills like you. Question for you. Being a total noob (only welded once) I read that you are just bonding the inner and outer together? Also your just gluing the tubs in? Please correct me if I am wrong. I am trying to figure out how to replace my outers with my quarters still on the car. If I can mini tub just by gluing the tubs together I will do that. Less money. Thanks! I have a 69 Camaro BTW

Replacing the outer wheel house with the quarter in place can be done however you will need to get all the mating surfaces down to bare metal before bonding. So take your time and pay attention to the flanges and your cut lines and you will be fine. The strength of the bond depends on the cleanliness of the prep work and the "best fit" of the metal, in other words, you can't have gaps in the metal and expect the bond to hold as intended .... get 'er tight and clamp everything tight.

Good luck!

Kinda cold for shooting epoxy ... sprayed outside and brought the parts into the heated garage to flash and now they are sitting in the bedroom curing. I got the trunk drip rails and the top dash in primer. Tomorrow I'll get the heat going and bond the dash top.

Hate it when you run outa clamps and adhesive ... thought I'd be able to get both the dash and rear filler panel bonded, NOT enough clamps or super glue :bang: .

Just for the future you could of used or can use less clamps and use a piece of flat bar under each clamp to spread out the clamp load area.

Looking beautiful. I'm glad your car is coming together so fast now.

Hey thanks! :popcorn2: Yeah, I used flat stock on the mini-tubs to spread out the clamping force, however, I didn't have anything narrower than 3" for the dash top, besides there isn't much flat on the top!!

Just an FYI, the adhesive sticks to bare metal so you must ensure your clamps are at least zinc coated or painted, or wrap your bar stock with plastic wrap, or best ... clamps with plastic bases as shown!!

Thanks for looking ...

Mike, it's just one of those things you acquire when you're building a car from scratch. Who is doing your paint work?

And .... sometimes you have to improvise when bonding like holding down the pan plugs with dumbells!

GregWeld 12-19-2016 08:46 PM

#1 --- I'm glad to see you didn't give up the pink weights you usually work out with.

#2 --- Like I told Rudy every weekend for 16 months..... DUDE! Pick up a tool and do something with it.... this crap don't build themselves.

#3 --- Waiting nightly - like some around here do - for the elves to show up and finish it at night while you're sleeping.... Well yeah.... You'll end up with a very nice box holder.

Glad to see you're banging it out! Looks great!
