I'm hoping so!
It goes in 3 weeks to put coil overs on the sub frame, the springs on it are too low. So I'll bit the bullet put Chicane kit with RideTech coil overs.

Thanks Guys!

OK seriously, when Wayne's car is finally complete I think EVERYONE here that has known Wayne this long needs to crack open a bottle of Champagne or simply toast Wayne for his 8000+ posts, his 444 thanks and his absolute pursuance in getting this car done !!

Wayne, wow ... well done

Cheers
Steve

waynieZ 03-17-2021 06:57 PM

Thanks Steve, appreciate it. I'm going to pick away until it's done, or like my buddy say or if I croak! lol

Very nice Wayne...

waynieZ 05-03-2021 12:12 PM

I just got back from taking the car to get Speed tech Chicane coil over brackets installed, getting the exhaust installed with V bands and tigged, and the frame connector brackets welded to the sub frame.

Since I got my Michelin Tires 345-30-19 I've been wanting to test fit. Mike at MCC built the rear and said it would be tight, Well he did an awesome job they fit with plenty of room. I worried they might be trouble, but today the car went to the guy who's doing the Chicane kit. He's also doing the exhaust so he needed the tire to make sure the tail pipe would clear. When I got to his place I asked him to try it while I was there, to either let me know I was all set or if I needed an antacid for the gut ache I would have if it was too tight. What a relief the ant acid stays in the cabinet!
Here are some pictures of them in the car.

I could fit my hand between the tire and the fender as far as my knuckles. He's also going to weld the DSE frame connector brackets to the sub, they'll bolt to the connector.

Car is looking great, glad to see you making good progress. Those 345's do look nice on there.

waynieZ 05-05-2021 07:52 AM

Thanks they had me wondering, but they fit well.

ErikLS2 05-05-2021 12:21 PM

Quick question, is that the standard DSE mini-tub kit and directions that those tires fit into or did you do something extra?

waynieZ 05-05-2021 06:12 PM

My car rebuild was done by Mike’s custom Cars he did the DSE mini tubs the way they instruct you to do. He had me order the wheels and built the rear to what he figured from having the wheels. He got it perfect. I haven’t trimmed the wheel well lip and it looks good to go. If I lower the car I’ll have to check again to make sure.

Hi Wayne. How much clearance do you have to the inner wheel housing?

Don

Rodknock 05-06-2021 12:28 PM

Looks great Wayne. I just got my tires mounted to my new rims as well. The 345 is a very tight fit. I'll have to trim the outer lip a little, I think.
I have about 3/8" on the inside, although the pic makes it look tighter.

He has more welding and then dress them up

Hi Don here is a picture of the distance from the frame to the tire.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

The welder @akuma.fab said the distance was about 3/4" at that spot of the picture and up above at the closest is 1/2".

waynieZ 06-04-2021 09:26 PM

I just got some pictures of the work on the exhaust, he made an X pipe to fit around the 4l85. Here's a few pictures.

This has me concerned. I'm planning to have the exhaust coated, I don't think they can do anything for the the flex coupler. I'm going to make a heat shield if there's room, I'll also put heat shield over the trans cable.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...720&fit=bounds

Some of his TIG work.

Looks fantastic!!!

Vegas69 06-06-2021 11:08 PM

The X pipe fabrication looks top notch, but it appears to neck the exhaust down to basically single exhaust.

214Chevy 06-07-2021 04:29 PM

Beautiful Wayne...

I talked to him today and he offered to do it over on his dime, it ended up being a little over 3" so I told him to change it. Thanks

Thanks guys

I'm sure it was an honest mistake and it's refreshing to hear he stepped up!

I even told him I felt bad I didn't catch it right away and offered to help pay, he said no he would take care of it. That makes me feel I made the right choice going with him.

Thanks Joe.

I got the car back from the welder, partially done. He did the sub frame connectors and the exhaust ,but said he couldn't do the main thing I wanted done the, coil over conversion. It ended up being a lesson learned that I don't seem to be getting through this Portuguese Cabeca.
Now it's time to find someone else to do it.

I got some work on the plumbing for the heatexchanger The lower tubing at the bottom was easy 3 90's welded up from pump to exchanger. The top was a little harder finding room for the tubing, the A/C line and the RS door. A little trim on the door, re arranging the A/C line and a hole through the rad support with an AN fitting for the hose. Making the hose fit on the supercharger around the fuel rail crossover.

Here's the bottom tubing

The top for the return

Next post will be the exhaust pics.

The farther into the build the tighter things get. You're doing a great job.

syborg tt 11-19-2021 04:38 PM

Wow, does the exhaust look incredible !

And your other option is to roll the fender lip instead of cutting it off.

On the Syborg Truck Dave from Comp Fab trimmed the lip and then welded in a 3/16" rod to give it back some of it's rigidity.

You could also trim it back and them have him weld tig the two layers back together.

Sheck44 11-20-2021 04:40 AM

Awesome work Wayne !!!
Soooo close now buddy

Steve

214Chevy 11-21-2021 03:44 PM

Good progress Wayne...exhaust is killer.

waynieZ 11-22-2021 08:07 PM

Always wanted CNC'd parts Be Careful What You Wish For!

Like the title says I always wanted CNC ported heads, CNC ported Throttle body, or other parts.

It looks like I'm getting something CNC ported, just not what I wished for.
Since the end of 2019 I've been trying to get my hip replaced . First covid 19 then no room in the hospital, all appointments full for 6 months. Last week I got a date for surgery December 15th. No car parts just my pelvis being robotically CNC'd for the new hip. Merry Christmas to me!

Between now and then ten appointments. One was to meet the surgeon. I don't mind the surgery just the down time with the car so close to first startup. I'm going to do what I can before then.
I hope I'll get to post another update.

camcojb 11-22-2021 08:22 PM

Hang in there Wayne!

waynieZ 11-22-2021 08:26 PM

It's like that kids movie The Never Ending Story!

Never say die!!

rixtrix1 11-24-2021 05:28 PM

Car is looking better all the time, Wayne. Hang in there through the surgery, and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

jarhead 11-25-2021 07:41 AM

Take it easy Wayne, that sounds painful.
