Question for you, when you were welding on your subframe did you make a note of your settings on the Mig200?

I am getting along alright but thought I would ask just for comparison. I know there can be lots of variables in local voltage etc... just curious what might have worked for you.

The camera works!

I've only dabbled on the subframe and my first attempts were not hot enough. The material is 11 ga./ 1/8" / 3.2mm roughly. .035 wire in the 140-150 amp range w/ 75/25 gas should get'R done.

Pictures look great . Did Rev make you take the picture on his good side???

Rev's not too picky, my wife on the other hand is fearing the detail of this camera. :D I think I can tweak the exposures enough internally to give her a suntan vs her late spring Oregon tan and she'll warm up to the camera.

New bits arrived today, time to finish fabbing the fender braces!

http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-W...-Wm8prkT-L.jpg

Depth of field is wrong for a detail shot, I was experimenting with ISO, zoomed, hand-held, and no flash. 1/100, f5, ISO 500, exposure -1/3 step .........the camera rocks it's like having 4-way adjustable shocks and tunable EFI!

Sieg 04-26-2013 04:08 PM

Here's a photo experiment using normal program mode at ISO 1600, handheld, 55mm zoom on a 28-135 lens, first photo is zero under or over exposure based on the camera's meter, the following are stepped -1/3, -2/3, -1, -4/3

Here's camera's un-edited video performance. GoPro only wishes they could get similar audio. :D

Flash68 04-26-2013 04:40 PM

KILLER photos man. You got a skill or two up there. :D

Yeah the GoPro audio is very disappointing. I wonder if the version 3 has better audio?

intocarss 04-26-2013 04:46 PM

Killer pics, killer video and killer sounding car  Hardwood floor in your garage? Not even GW has that :trophy-1302:

Thanks, it's the equipment. I've obtained the basic knowledge from years of interest in photography, though I was equipment handicapped. I'm actually pretty excited to have this camera.

I just sent this photo to GoPro with my warranty return info for the Hero3 with faulty audio.....I noted that hopefully engineering figures out the audio issues because the other four cameras in the picture are worse than the Hero3 which is the one you admit has an issue. How many victims are there?

Does that answer your question? :D

I certainly wouldn't buy stock if they were publicly traded.

Flash68 04-26-2013 05:05 PM

GoPro is really good at marketing ain't they. :action-smiley-027:

The pictures are fantastic.... I especially enjoyed that little under/over exposure experiment!!

So Sieg, the camera is working nicely, how about that carb? All sorted out??

Trials bike is a Beta Rev3 250......doesn't rev like my dog though. :D

The paint is circa 1989. Don't look too close!

The camera is actually better than expected and I have tweaked it with the custom functions. I was expecting it would need micro-focus adjustment but it appears to be close. Hopefully my other Canon lens is this close. The meter may have a tendency to slightly over-expose but that can be internally tuned along with a million other parameters. The electronic processing complexity and capability is amazing.

The carb is very close to driver status, just micro tuning the accel pump and possible the idle bypass air circuit. I managed to squeeze 11.5-12" of vacuum at idle out of it. It just has a tiny flat spot right off the 1K idle, just when you first touch the pedal.

Sieg... The car looks and sounds great... I really like the black and orange color combination :D ... very nice!

Look forward to meeting you tomorrow

I hope to get that close real quick. I switched to a new distributor so I'm starting from square one!! Spec on my engine calls for base timing of 12° - to fight a rich idle condition, I'm going to start off at 14°.

Your thread has been a great point of reference!!

I'm right in the 12-14* initial range also.

Make sure your idle transfer slot exposure is in the ballpark. You should see about .020 of the slot on the underside of the butterflies.

I've been working on these fender braces for a while, finally had time to get fasteners and mock fit before finding someone capable of TIG welding the threaded inserts to the chrome moly tubing......:D

Hopefully my lack of TIG welding skill doesn't result in a butcher job. The plan is to drill the tubing and plug weld along with the 360* butt weld. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ron in SoCal 05-08-2013 09:51 PM

That's sharp Sieggy. Can you reverse thread the fittings and tubing?

Yes, they are left and right hand threads.

DaleTx 05-08-2013 10:26 PM

Nice design Sieg... Looks good

intocarss 05-08-2013 11:01 PM

Those look awsome

GregWeld 05-09-2013 06:13 AM

No reason for the plug weld...

Just run a nice stack of dimes around the butt. Watch the heat - it's a small part and ya gotta move along smartly.

Set up for the wall thickness of the TUBE.... start your weld on the insert and then it will grab the tube in the puddle.

Payton King 05-09-2013 07:05 AM

coming along

Sieg 05-09-2013 07:05 PM

Tubes are welded up, now the question is finish. I'm tempted to satin black the brackets and clear the tubes. What do you think?

Sorry G-dub, as much as I like orange I couldn't see it.

Tubes semi-flat clear, mounts semi-gloss, stainless fasteners.

Current cold tire pressures, ignition timing and advance specs.

Agree, turned aluminum or black. Current is a chrome cheapy to keep the fire restoration cost down.........with as many times as I've had it off making carb adjustments the finger printing chrome is a PITA. A rectangular one that didn't need to be removed to make carb adjustments would be great............except for the that round cowl induction opening in the hood. :D
