Okay --- The motor (LS3) was built by Don Hardy / Don Hardy Junior --- the father and son team "EX" drag racing legend...

http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/113_0205_don_hardy/

It has a "extremely" restrictive intake and shorty little tube headers. The motor WAS NOT BUILT to make a bunch of crazy ass horsepower but rather - be very drivable for my darling bride. The car weighs in a exactly 2975 pounds so doesn't require too much to get it scootin' right along.... just ask Chris Gonzales.... HAHAHAHAHAHA

This was the only power pull I videoed ---- and the blue smoke was due to it being PIG FAT.... that all cleared right up in subsequent pulls. Advanced Motor Performance did the tuning --- and they only work on big HP LS stuff.... like 1500 twin turbo Vettes -- and several 750 to 900 hp late model Camaro's and CTS V's.... that's all they had in their shop. AMP is located in Arlington Texas....

GregWeld 03-25-2014 01:21 PM

The fans made more HP than the car did..... LOL

I was VERY impressed with Sam - the tuner and partner in this speed shop!

I don't impress easily....

No you didn't. I purposely didn't publish them. Only the losers will see the result if they line up next to it...

Let's put it this way. It's very quick.

DBasher 03-25-2014 03:04 PM

So after the tune does it feel A-hole lot better or is it even noticeable? I know after we put the Stude on the dyno it was waaay mo betta!
:morepower

Oh and I may need you pick up a few things on your way back north...:underchair:

Eeeeeeehhaaaaaw!

A WORLD of difference in running and the sound even changed.

As I told "Sam" ---- "dude! It's lazy and my guess is it's pig fat"....... OH YEAH --- it was pig fat -- and it ain't lazy now. Nice torque right off idle... rev's very quickly.

He also tuned the transmission to the drivetrain/gears/tall tires.... put the lockup to kick in at 50 MPH. Nice difference in holding the car in 3rd gear under that. Much mo snappy. But not stupid... My '32 gets a little stupid quick in the lower gears -- but it's running 4:30 rear gears and a 5 speed and the 8 stack... which is very quick throttle response.

If we'd left room for a "performance" intake and put some real headers on this one --- and changed the rear end gearing (it now has 3:57) it'd be scary. I don't want scary for Gwen. Quick and sporty is okay... and it's very linear.

She sounds really healthy.

So your saying it doesn't make bragging hp ?:guns:

Lenie 03-25-2014 05:42 PM

Sweet music, I'm now looking for an LS to put into my 75 chev van to use as an everyday spring and summer driver. Love the car and the sound of that dyno run doesn't get any better.

I was very clear when I stated the FANS made more HP than the car did.

As we were discussing this weekend, did you find any of the vacuum hoses incorrectly routed or learn of any other small tricks to making it run better while tuning?

Vegas69 03-25-2014 08:46 PM

Sounds like a 1994 Chevy Beretta.

No Steve --- the one hose that was run from the VC to the back of the air filter housing was all that was needed according to Sam at AMP. They did everything correctly and no changes where made to the physical install.

You have no idea how appreciative I am of your letting me have the motor from your DD. I'm not sure how I'll ever be able to repay your kindness!

So apparently your motors output is perfect for you Greg.

It left Brizio's yesterday for a photo shoot in LA...

Gwen will see it (learn about it) for the first time on June 12th at 7AM when we show up at his shop... to drive it (along with 20+ other Brizio builds) to the L A Roadsters Show in Pomona... then we'll leave there and cruise up California 1 to the Carmel / Monterey area... spend a couple days messing around there. Then finally bring it home.

Payton King 05-01-2014 08:11 AM

Sounds like a wonderful suprise. Don't know how you do it, I would have already let the cat out of the bag.

This reminds of an old Simpsons episode where Homer gives Marge a bowling ball for her birthday...

They have been married so long that she probably just tunes him out.
So it was easy to keep it a secret.

Beautiful. The subtlety of detail, balance of colors and materials, stance...just fantastic.

Dynamite Shirt!

I had the pleasure of seeing this car in person yesterday and it is so good in so many ways - elegant with just the right amount of nastiness IMO.
