Hey John, thanks for the input, I hadn't thought about that but I'm liking the sound of it! That would also allow me to still use the seatbelt holder area for cell phone storage while driving, too...something I didn't wanna give up for cup holders but hadn't worked out yet either. I'll roll that around in my head and try to come up with something. It reminds me of those cup holders my Dad had in his truck when I was a kid, you know, those cheap plastic ones that hung on the door panel between the glass! Maybe we can bring those back in style, a more refined version:cheers:

I've read good things about the "Ledge" cup holders https://theledgecupholder.com/

Also the insert for the center console https://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

Love the car and the build documentation. No doubt it will help others. I've already wrote down the part numbers for the radiator hoses!

Have you looked in to a 5th gen center console? I think they look pretty good in our cars and am thinking of doing that for mine. Storage, cupholders, cigarette lighter for cell phone charger. I think they look good if done right!

Thanks for the links...I’ve seen the piece from Rick’s. I love how ledge has an installation video on their site! :popcorn2:

Most appreciated, I’m glad it’s been a help! I actually looked really hard at the 5th gen consoles and had planned on using one but changed it up due to the real estate I had left over after raising the trans tunnel. I was also afraid it might look out of place given that the rest of my interior is basically in stock form, plus I like the classic look of the original console. Without a doubt if I ever change it up, the 5th gen console will definitely be my go to.

Being a bit late to the party.....

I too want to keep the original flavor of the stock console but have a bit of modern as well.

As cheesy as they may seem, the add-on center console arm rest available from the resto houses are super nice to have. For track days/shows etc. it's very easy to just lift it off and set aside.

I made a mod to add a downward lip that indexes to the back edge of the stock seat belt holder hole. That way the armrest does not slide back under vigorous acelleration ;-)

Sounds like a good idea. That is one downfall (besides no cup holders) of the first gen consoles...that they don’t stick up high enough to offer much of an armrest while driving. I just think of it like high-heel shoes, there’s a sacrifice to be made!

Another one I looked at was the second gen Camaro console...I think that’s a relatively “neutral” design that can go well in different cars and yet offers some room for customization. I took measurements off the one in my Dad’s 79 but since I would’ve had to cut the top of it down to fit under my dash, not only would it be hard to make the cut area look factory again (because of how it’s made) but by cutting it, I’d have lost all the storage space in the front anyway. Since I was kinda leaning towards the factory 68 console anyway, it just gave me more reason to go that way.

Since my interior is mostly stock appearing and I like the looks of the factory console, I wanted to go that route. I raised the transmission tunnel quite a bit to gain clearance for the T56 so with the help of some folks on here sending me console dimensions I was able to summarize that it'd be close enough I could probably make it fit.
Anyway, I ordered up a console kit which arrived yesterday and went to work. I actually didn't have to cut it as much as I expected and I'm happy with the fit and appearance. I still have to do something with the wood grain, either paint it black or thought about having the parts hydro dipped to look like carbon fiber. My question is, now that I've got storage, I'd love to integrate some cup holders somehow but there's just no good place to do it. It's not a big deal except during longer road trips so I thought about 3D printing an insert that'd drop in where the factory seat belt buckle holders would be that would hold a couple of drinks. Then, when parked or not needed, can be pulled out and stowed away. Anywho, here's a pic of it mocked up, just ignore the wood grain!

Where did you get those floor mats?

Clutch Upgrade

2 Attachment(s)
Haven’t posted much recently but I did do a clutch upgrade on the Camaro this weekend. The American Powertrain clutch I got with my kit, although upgraded, wasn’t enough apparently and it went tits up and started slipping under hard acceleration. Decided to to what I should’ve done the first time and went with the Tilton ST-246 twin disc. Got to it installed and will do the final touches today. Probably the best tool I’ve bought recently is a Harbor Freight trans jack. Saved a lot of effort on my part!

I’ve also got a larger rear brake upgrade in the near future once the parts arrive. Thanks or looking!

Nice upgrade!!

Damn, I just hate junk clutches!!!

The worst one in the world is "Luk" absolute garbage! stock slipping, no grabbing spinning junk! Even grenaded the clutch plate in my 12' Jeep Rubicon, for some odd reason I had no clutch, took it apart, no material on one side of the plate, gone! name on it Luk, Nova same thing when I got it from the guy that built it, 6000 rpms just sit there and spin, Luk!!!

Glad you upgraded your upgrade!
