Most of you know I've spent many many late nights and afternoons away from work trying to get my car back on the road. It's been almost 4 months since I pulled the old engine out! While swapping engine sounds simple, I can't make anything simple. I can't leave anything alone either. I'm to the point now where I'm doing over before it ever leaves the garage. If I don't like it, I start over. Anyway, here's a list of the changes I made.
I fired her up around 4 or so. I had the timing light ready but noticed the crank pulley was wobbling badly. I couldn't of left it loose. So off comes the belt and it turns out that a couple bolts that hold the ATI balancer together were sticking out maybe .015 of an inch. I had some brake caliper shims handy and put them between the pulley and balancer and it's perfect. Once I had that fixed I cranked the idle up to about 2k and set the timing consservative. Then the cooling system belched and I topped it off. Dialed the idle down and had a 3"x3" oil puddle after about 15-20 minutes. It's leaking between my one way valve and 45. I loosened and retightened and it still leaks. Brand new earls stuff. I'll get it figured out. Other than that it sounds great. The oil coolant temp was about 185 hot and the oil temp was 190. The heat exchanger is working perfectly. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...upvideo003.jpg While the engine compartment is brand new I took the chance to shoot some photos. I'll post the old engine compartment last. |

Todd,
Remember the PM I sent the other day? So true! This is just awesome! Really nice work Todd. I really like the twin breather tanks and lines, nice touch. You have outdone yourself with this entire car. I read your reply on the tow hooks. As tie downs for the rear they should be way more than enough. And they look great too. |
Todd--it is beautiful man---that's the Schnizel for sure---love the breather lines---perfect blend of brushed aluminum and black hose/fittings. You did a great job. Can't wait to see it in 2 weeks bro. Let us know what you find on the oil leak.

sweet! maybe ill come over tomorrow to help ya get the hood on...
|
^^^^^^^ What he said!
Looks really really nice Todd... Good job! If you can't stop the leak on the fitting - Doug and I can pick up a Flare Saver for you at Marks (Bent Fab) on Thursday before you get over to El Toro... just let us know what size it is. |
Very nice man, like the mix of black and brushed aluminum. Sucks about the oil leak, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. Keep us posted.

|
WOW!!! LOVE IT! Todd, you the man.
Looks killer, sounds killer. It bet it runs killer as well!! Great job on everything. Enjoy that ride today. TEAR IT UP!!!    |
Congrats on getting to this point! Hope you can get it on the road today! Go take Curtis for a nice long drive...I know he would LOVE that!!
More video man!!! :unibrow:  |
 Thanks guys. I'm going to try and hunt down a conical washer today locally. If that fails I'll call Earls on Monday. The funny thing is I use Jegs fittings most of the time and Earls for specialty stuff. I called Earls and asked if their hose would work with Jegs fittings. No way, they are made in China he said. I don't think they all are but they haven't ever leaked on me. :unibrow: Earls does make some cool specialty fittings so I can't complain to much. I'm sure a .50 cent washer will take care of it.
|
Studly man, one of the best looking engine compartment. Be Proud!
|
WOW!! It's so tough to stuff that much crap under the hood and make it look good, but dude your engine bay looks sweet and sanitary! I agree with the other guys your attention to details has stepped up. Good job, can't wait to hear how it drives.
|
You're not kidding Jack. That big block takes up a ton of Real Estate all by itself. It's a real jigsaw puzzle laying all the systems out and making them look good and most importantly, functional. Your car is the king of clean so I really appreciate the comment.
|
Looks awesome Todd. Congrats on getting her wrapped up.

Looks and sounds killer Todd, very nice job you have done  Liked the video commentary
|
Awesome job Todd, you fit a lot of equipment in a tight space and made it look super clean. I love the way you handled all the hoses. When I get mine back your car will definately be one to study to help package mine. Great video too. How did you get the brushed finnish on the air cleaner so even did you mount it on a drill or something? It all looks great!
