This go round of the build is all the stuff I wanted to do the first time but with that cancer thing the goal was to just get the car done and make a nice driver. This go round I get to do all the little details that most people won't notice and the timing couldn't be better as with the social distancing and the lock down am fairly certain my family would kill me if was in the house all night. I'm not much for sitting around so this is keeping me sane. |
wow the pedal setup look really pretty. is this custom?

Still plugging along (01-04-20)
Redoing the factory shifter assembly and I need to thank Jay at Pro-Tek Powder Caoting in Joliet for doing such a great job on the base bracket that will never be seen. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...10e4e34-me.jpg So at some point I would love to talk with the guys at DSE and see if I can get the billet shifter they did in the Chevelle. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...012a541-me.jpg The ShiftWorks brackets going in. https://shiftworks.com/collections/c...camaro-shifter http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2742278-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...72f0e45-me.jpg I think this is the easiest thing I have done on this car to date. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f1b11a3-me.jpg |
So I was trying to clean out the threads and well I kinda pulled out the nutsert. It just so happened this
one was frenched in the floor vs the other two that went through the floor pan. (01-07-20) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2b5433a-me.jpg Time to break out the JB Weld http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c5b5418-me.jpg and let's try not to JB Weld the bolt in. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...597d45c-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...95f9cf2-me.jpg Stay Tuned to see what happened. |
Planning for the Holley EFI Harness ( 01-07-20 )
The goal is to hide as much as possible yet still be able to get to things if needed so I am going to hide some stuff in above the Anvil Inner Fenders. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b46c382-me.jpg When Larry redid the firewall I had him take the ugly lip off the firewall. I am still not sure if I am going to put a weather strip across the top. But at least I planned for it if I needed it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4497661-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...58527e3-me.jpg Gratuitous Car Picture ( 01-09-20 ) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a77ccb2-me.jpg and yes I know I have way to many Hot Wheels. |
So do you have just have one of those days !!! ( 01-09-20 )
Well that is exactly what happened on the Jan 9. I closed the door and I heard something fall inside the door. So I went to open the door to see if I could figure out what it was and then I realized it was the rod for the door handle. Ugh !! So off came the door panel http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d59f133-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...86651a9-me.jpg Found it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f913c42-me.jpg Dear Lord talk about an awful task. Hell I have small hands and I could barley get the clip back on. |
Looking for Old School Window Cranks (01-10-20)
Seems like an easy enough task and oddly enough it was. All you have to do is go to the Autoparts store that has been in your town for 80 years and see if they have a window crank. Not sure how old it is but it has been on the shelf for years. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...44e6f76-me.jpg Next up...Adjustments to the G-Force Trans Crossmember. So you know when you ask all of your car friends and even the guys at the trans shop if the 700R4 and the 4L60E have the same size case and the tail-shaft mount is in the exact same position and the case dimensions are the same. Well, don't believe them because they are not and the blue tap represents where the new holes need to be !!! Of course I have to drill new holes in my freshly Powder Coated crossmember. Not Happy at all. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9cca13d-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...135bf7a-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dc8722e-me.jpg This should give you an idea how much different they are. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...48c38d7-me.jpg |
One of those while you are here moments. ( 01-11-20 )
Hey let's tighten the window glass nuts and see if that is the rattle. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...96778b5-me.jpg I have had this tool since the early 80's and it's kinda cool that one of the last cars I used it on was my buddy Ken's 70 Split bumper Camaro. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e16e0e1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d888270-me.jpg Fit's perfect and the glass is tight and no more rattles. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bae6acf-me.jpg |
Finishing Up the G-Force Crossmember ( 01-12-20 )
I broke out the big drill which has a tendency to try to break my wrist. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d2f6737-me.jpg Pulled out the 5/8 bit to duplicate the slot. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2f93e16-me.jpg Love the dremel. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...08421ab-me.jpg More blue tape and as you can see I put notes on everything so I don't have to try to remember what I forgot to do. Tape stays on till the task it complete. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8a4c0e7-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...01de7e1-me.jpg |
Car Break ( 01-18-20 )
Friend coming over for some upgrades on his bike. So car goes up and Bike shop is open for repair. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f65cb9c-me.jpg and while i was waiting for him I decided to clean the garage floor and hang a TV so I can stream Motor-Trend TV in the garage. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d8a9e4a-me.jpg Back to Ace Hardware for more bolts. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f3848c5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9055815-me.jpg More blue tape and notes. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9072076-me.jpg |
solid updates, I like how you work, very organized

Mocking up the new Vintage Air coolant lines. (01-20-20 )
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ff866ac-me.jpg AC Lines http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3e11618-me.jpg So I am not one for not having a washer between the nut and sheet metal. So back to Ace Hardware to get a "Machine Bushing" which I will use as a washer. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cd079f0-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...888bd76-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bb95225-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c420c5d-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5b16d7e-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...04bb7d0-me.jpg I also ordered a much thicker version from McMaster Carr for the Coolant lines as they seem to put a little more pressure on the firewall. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...65d47cc-me.jpg |
More Parts ( 01-23-20 )
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0461650-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a1cb67c-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8d1fde4-me.jpg Just using these to hold wire out of the way while I am routing wires. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3e84364-me.jpg |
I know its a little late but Gforce has a listing of all the critical dimensions of various transmission measurements. Hopefully you won't need them now.
https://www.crossmembers.com/blog/20...on-dimensions/ Nice shop to work on your car and bikes! Your detailing is no OCD just a high standard you go by. I guess sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't, wait that's Almond Joy not Mounds.:) |
Mocking Up some of the new Parts ( 01-24-20 )
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6958ac1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3968f97-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...52aee3a-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...87ecdc3-me.jpg Not a fan of how tight this line fits. So this is going in the garbage and I will have to make a new line. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c586c6e-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5cdf4a7-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7b9606c-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...57a7ef6-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b6159b9-me.jpg Eventually I will build a Carbon Fiber Intake tube. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0e5efe5-me.jpg |

Laying out the Holley Terminator X Engine Harness. (01-26-20)
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2be19a8-me.jpg I was a little board and didn't really feel like working on the car and I really wanted to ride but the weather sucked and the trails were closed. SO I put the bike rack back on the car. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cfec27d-me.jpg Since my drivers door hinges is a little worn I figured this would be the best time to replace the hinges. So I put a small order together. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7d3814d-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...66eba9a-me.jpg After looking at this picture it looks like I might have a problem. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8597ff5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...13e6d49-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...efe772b-me.jpg |

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...79791d3-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...19c022c-me.jpg I love these velcro strips as it makes storing stuff neatly very easy. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4af3817-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ef82367-me.jpg |
I finally found the correct Temp Coolant Switch that plugs into the Holley EFI (01-29-20)
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3703b45-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ef27003-me.jpg Not sure why I did this but many years ago someone taught me how to make hose clamps round again. It's pretty simple just tighten them around a socket and come back in about 5 minutes and they are round again. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...50ae965-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6c8dcf8-me.jpg Yep, More blue tape and this one has a reminder on it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fc63f04-me.jpg |
Is this a street car only? I ask because I know its really easy to boil power steering fluid during track days or autocross. A cooler would be a good idea in any case. I like the machine bushing idea for washers, I'm going to have to remember that.

one will do the Power Tour and see a bunch of mountain bike trails. I also have the Cayman R and the 2010 Camaro if I want to hit the track or autocross. Something about having airbags, ABS and updated safety features that at this point in my life seem really important. |
Coil Brackets (02-02-20)
So at this point I am assuming at this point that my coil brackets are upside down so I am going to flip them to see if the coils come down just a little bit to take the tension off the plug wires. If not I am going to have to remake the wire as I don't like how tight they are. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...562ab91-me.jpg and yes that is a mountain bike tool being used on my car. Which got me thinking.... http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...35a93b9-me.jpg At some point the Custom Works Carbon Valve covers we be heading over to Gonzo Details for paint correction and a paint sealer. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...35a93b9-me.jpg Flipped http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e707a68-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ba51aa5-me.jpg Well that didn't work out so it looks like we will be making new wires. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9cb52b0-me.jpg |
Next up is planning, neatly hiding and running wires so they will be easy to access if I need to service them.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...64df62b-me.jpg making a new hole. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c645d2b-me.jpg Grommet installed and I promise I will clean up the DEI Boom Matt to make it look nice. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fed2b23-me.jpg Back to the Holley Terminator wiring and I am hoping all of my planning pays off with all of the hose routing and wiring. Confirming the location of where I want to mount the relays. Once I feel confident I will install the "Weld Mounts" which are a stud that are glues in with panel bond. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a74a6c5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a74a6c5-me.jpg These are going to be fun to put the washer, lock washer and nut on. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...95461f6-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3830f18-me.jpg I think this is the final. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0c98fb1-me.jpg More notes on the blue tap. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...38490fa-me.jpg |
Lokar Dip Stick (02-02-20 )
Not liking the stainless look so in order to tone it down just a little I wrapped it in the High Temp Tech Flex wrap. Being hones if I didn't already have this I would be putting in a stock dipstick. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...647062e-me.jpg Instead of cutting with Scissors they recommend a Hot Knife so a quick trip to Harbor Freight and $20.00 later this will work. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f2420f1-me.jpg I used an adhesive based heat shrink so it's nice and tight and I am hoping the engine heat doesn't cause an issue. I am also consider a factory dip stick as they work and it's already black so it will disappear when you look in the engine bay. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7309d59-me.jpg Well it at least looks better. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...58b3115-me.jpg More stuff arrived. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0b82c6e-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...84fd6ca-me.jpg |

Marty, that stay at home advisory is really working in your favor by getting a bunch of small detailing stuff done. I picked up some of that wire wrap to use as a conduit for wiring going from the trunk area to glovebox, keeps them nice and neat & protected.
Hey if you don't mind...... in the pics of your spark plug wires, your grommet on your firewall that feeds your main harness looks nice and snug, care to share which one you used. Thanks. Keep up the tidy detailing! |
