Thanks, yes the POR15 Metal Prep leaves a zinc phosphate coating on the rotor. I've used it for bolts before with great results so why not the rotors? Let them sit in the tub for 25 minutes to get the results I had ... no rusty rotors for this girl! Michael |
Flashback Friday ...
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/IKZQbS.jpg I hate rust! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/dXLG35.jpg Second side always comes out better! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/DfhVNk.jpg Looks like a drunk did this one ... the trunk was sacrificial first! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/iM6u4o.jpg Didn't quite make it to the end there! Messing with self-leveling seam sealer on the drip rails and trunk ... lessons learned 1. FILL the void and the stuff will level bank to bank and 2. 10 minutes drying time is short and stop messing with it before you make it worse, lol. So I'll have to sand some and re-apply to fill voids, and the driver's side A-pillar didn't flow all the way to the end ... passenger side DID, too much in the channel so I cut it with a razor and will conform with sand paper. That's all for today, thanks for looking ... |
Keep up the good work Chief....seam sealer sucks big time never had any luck with it.

I really don't like hanging doors and such ... finished some small stuff on the door (opened up the drain holes and welded the channel width) Gaps will need some work still and wrestled one in place! The AMD trunk fit like crap and needed persuasion and lots of bending at the corners to fit worth a crap :bang: Still needs some lov'in but it's good enough for now! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/KvFcXw.jpg Not my favorite task ... oh well! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/0HaQzx.jpg That's a good sign when there is a lock installed! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/5V3SC8.jpg Still too high in the middle ...:bang: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/YCnRqa.jpg Looking like a car again! Lessons learned ... don't body work the trunk until you have fitted it to the body, grrrr! Still need to get the other door finished and bolted on, thanks for looking ... |
Chief, I have not commented in awhile... but WOW!
This is the only thread I still follow. I still get updates on some of the others but yours is without a doubt the most inspiring! Keep up the great work! |

Update 3/5

A little of this and that ... got the passenger side hub painted and both rotors coated in zinc. Figured I might as well jump in both feet first so I did the lower valence, came out ok, take a look ... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/z0iPNW.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/9phkjl.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/H6TYw5.jpg I will finish the driver's side tomorrow and do some more wrapping, not sure I'm ready for a quarter panel yet but what the hey ... it's gotta be done! Thanks for looking ... |

Looking better and better buddy!
|
Thanks guys, the vinyl wrap is not as easy to apply as You-tube posts but definitely doable if you take your time, the junction of different planes is what messes me up ... oh well some wrinkles you can't see when it's bolted to the car!!!
I finished bolting everything on the sub .... torqued and ready for install! I bought some Caswell black oxide finish for all my hardware so all is black and won't rust! Just did the sub to body bolts so tomorrow I'll get the sub frame under the car! Oh yeah, my OCD kicked in again on the hood ... last time I told myself! Just epoxy and wrap it ... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/bM6zDN.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/nWLdmZ.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/7VTSll.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/horiux.jpg Thanks for looking ... |
Nice torque stripping you have there,
Where did you get the Caswell black oxide coating I want to get some, |
Wow, Nice attention to detail, great build!
|

I may have to try it out when i redo my car. |
Nice job bud!!! U brave wrapping that your self. It's "just" a sticker right? Hahaha
|

Thanks Steve, I ordered the black oxide directly from Caswell, I didn't get the clear coat thou ... used WD-40! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/nshTuC.jpg |
Working on the rear brakes ... hoping my wheels will come in soon so I can get a tire mounted and have a roller!
Had to modify/ clearance the Ford bearing end flange to get the brakes in the front AND pull cables in front, but it came out great ... all torqued and ready for wheels! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/lcrpAA.jpg Need to align with rear suspension pick up points ... but it getting there! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/AG3SA5.jpg Passenger side all set! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/QefVMD.jpg Had to break out the Makita high speed and clearance the flange for the bolt! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/OTjqfu.jpg Ready for tires now .... Thanks for looking ... |

Michael it just keeps getting better. I am looking forward to seeing it move under power. BTW, I went back to page one again and remembered all the rusty bits. You sure have come a long way and always a constant motivator as you go!

Flash back Friday ... remembered when I pulled off the roof and found mouse houses in the front bow, man did that stink, yuck! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/HuHBi7.jpg Shifted gears ... trying to get the steering column in and matched with the rack, not going so good. Seems the Retro-fit 67 Camaro Ididit column is TOO long, needs to be around 29" vs 31.5", and Ididit columns only come in 28" and 30". Messed with the position and came up with a good compromise ... probably could use the 30" gonna have to check!!! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/tv26cB.jpg Bolted in the stock position shifted all the way back ... 4" into engine compartment! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/NE52fS.jpg Shifted back into cab about 2.70" ... mo better! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/ZOLaAN.jpg OCD kicked in , last coat of epoxy I promise ... |
That OCD is a killer:snapout: looks great like always
|
I agree on the OCD. It's like an investment, it'll pay dividends in the end!! CheeRS bud.....

Location, location, location ... right? Well what do you do after the photo shoot? You move indoors and do something clean that doesn't attract dust into your newly painted radiator support! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/SdXEBn.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/IM8amS.jpg Wish me luck ... |
Hell Yeah!

Some progress!

Thanks for the encouragement ...but it didn't work out like I'd hope :waveflag: One step forward and two steps backward ... that's how this week has been going. First, the steering column was too long, then the radiator support bolts didn't fit the subframe, and then the gas tank strap rubber u-channel was too narrow. So I did a little this and that and made some progress. I finished installing the 31 spline Strange axles, which went as engineered, finally, and then installed Millerbuilt end caps ... and filled with gear oil. Fearing the worst I installed the gas tank and radiator with no surprises. Oh, the wrap didn't work out as planned mainly cuz of my technique and lack of experience. I sure could have used a second pair of hands too. Lessons learned, don't stretch the vinyl too much cuz it makes wrinkles that are apita to get back out. Had I known the technique of the proper squeegee angle of the dangle I probably could have saved it ... another time I guess. Oh, and if you wet the felt squeegee you won't scratch the vinyl, duh! :twak: So I sacrificed a piece of black vinyl no biggy, I'll have my nephew help me next time, he can hold the vinyl off the panel until I work it down without wrinkles. Didn't take any pics, sorry. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/Ee1IjH.jpg Duh that won't work ... used a 5/16 bolt to attach for now! Frame is too wide! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/mhTfbM.jpg Pulled the column into the cab the distance of the mounting pads, roughly 2 5/8", the bottom bolts are now top bolts! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/NdD1Uq.jpg That'll work just fine :hello: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/qAZehF.jpg That's beefy axle fer sure! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/dHkkpB.jpg Installed as engineered! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/elmkHu.jpg Little Loctite on set screws and thread sealant on the cap and it's all set! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/JGtNb2.jpg That's a cool feature of this Motul gear oil http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/O0bMfl.jpg Gas tank in .... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/Ob1fDo.jpg At least something went right! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/f0awr3.jpg Radiator installed w/o a hitch! So I've been on the phone with Blake and he will pay for shortening the column from the Retro Fit 31.5" down to the 29" where she's at now, that's service, thanks, Blake! The car does steer now! The frame horns being too wide caught Blake off guard, never heard of that happening. Solution ... take some material off the inside slot to get the designed bolts to fit! Well, that's my week so far, I'll get the front end on this week and hopefully, my rear rims will be in soon so I can get this rolled onto the transport. Thanks for looking ... |
I like thr radiator, I haven't pulled mine out of the box since UPS dropped it off. Can't wait to see the 67 in person! :excited:
|
Well done Chief, very detailed and looks amazing!

Persistance ... another word for not giving up! Or I could be a little stubborn ... had to try the wrap again with my new found knowledge, take a look .... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/qzieeK.jpg BIG tip ... don't take the wrap off the paper until you need it and NO HEAT until you are ready to set the adhesive!!! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/k2YEwr.jpg Complex curves cause these wrinkles ... just have to work each one out one at a time! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/g9wQdX.jpg Working with the lip and reading the wrinkles and applying pressure to relieve the tension ... fingers worked best! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/ZW8yRi.jpg Didn't get them all out but still learning ... I have to keep on keeping on and get the other side done ... |
