PT as in Pro Tinkering. That's racy car chromoly tubing & fittings and, the finest rattle-can finish I can shoot! :D

That chromoly tubing is certainly priced like upper-end PT bling though!

Time to resolve this exhaust clearance issue created by the change to larger wheels.
http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-3...-3Pz47WP-L.jpg

Templates made and 90* & 45* mandrel sections w/3.75" CLR have been ordered through http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog/
http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-d...-dVd8BTv-L.jpg

Since the clearances and budget are tight I'm eliminating the tradition Camaro tailpipes for now and dumping the exhaust in the space just behind the rear wheel opening.
http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-N...-NBcCr3B-L.jpg

It's hard to believe I had this Flowmaster exhaust kit installed 22 years ago.

intocarss 05-19-2013 08:58 AM

I have the same problem and need to make changes to my tail pipes. Will be following this :)

With the pipes not exiting out the back, do you think it will resonate inside the car a lot more?

Thank god you have a good camera ;)

Here's where I anticipate the exhaust to exit. I'm not sure how far the tips will project and what angle I'll cut them at. They'll probably project just past the lower lip of the quarter panel. I'm certainly open to the pro's and con's of this location.

All you need is a chop saw - a friction/abrasive blade - some mandrel bends... and we know you have mad TIG skills.... Get fabbin' dude!!

You reminded me that I need to make a base or reinforce my cheapo Harbor Freight cut-off saw. The stock base is a flexi POS.

I'm all ready to cut, fit, and fry!

Any TIG tips for aluminized steel tubing? Can you use stainless rod or MIG with stainless wire or does that create failure issues? Considering the welded section will not be stressed by a hanger, would butting the tubing and fuse welding with the TIG be the ticket?

If it's aluminized steel -- just fry it with the MIG.... Just make sure your fit up is impeccable.

You don't want to be hovering over those fumes.

Come on up! We'll video the entire ordeal because everybody wants to watch a couple of old monkeys trying to F a football for 8 hours.

I'm doing a great job so far of exploiting my lack of exhaust fabricating talent and lack of parts inventory. :sieg:

My biggest dilemma is the range of travel in the rearward portion of the leaf spring. The tire has about a .5" and I can get 1.25" vertical clearance on the spring. I'm guessing the vertical clearance will result in the tailpipe contacting the spring under hard cornering.

Global West's Del-A-Lum rear shackle kit is probably in order to limit lateral travel and insure the tire stays clear of the tailpipe.

If you had a sack -- as a welder -- you'd drop that factory fuel tank outta there and start cutting it up and making some room.

Well, I've got one though your's is probably closer to the ground.........but I digress.............Now if I had a sack of money I'd dump the leafs and go 4-link coil-over and a Rick's tank and have all kinds of clearance..........but once again I digress. :mock:

Over the past 6-9 months some days around the house remind me of walking into the Chiloquin tavern (on the reservation) years ago on a goose hunting trip and realizing we're the only white people and the other 30 occupants are quite drunk and hostile. :D
