Got one word for this car. Insane. First time I have ever punched the throttle and got sideways going 55!!!!:D That 587 ftlbs at 3700 gets it done. The money spent on the headers and exhaust was worth every penny. I am confident I am getting every last ounce of horsepower out of this engine. Working out some bugs this week.
Clutch pedal wasn't returning to the pedal stop. I made a z bracket out of 3/8 steel and a stronger spring. I attached it to the blow proof bellhousing. With these 2 1/8 headers using a stock spring setup is not going to happen. Redo Pinion angle/ rear tire rub. After a discussion a month of so ago I discovered that the pinion angle was supposed to be 1 degree negative of the drive line angle with a G Bar. A little more with high horsepower applications. I set mine at 2 degrees negative tonight after having it 2 degree negative of level. It did smooth out the acceleration somewhat. I knew I would gain some clearance from the front of the tire to the fender lip. It actually moved the tire back .5 inches and centered the tire in the wheel well. Two problems solved in one. It didn't get rid of the vibration that starts right at 72. It's got to be wheel balance because it has none until that point. (Buy the Prodigy Bar....the stock setup absolutely sucks for pinion angle adjustments) I hope the neighbors kids were in bed. Hesitation hot off idle/ hard hot start I bought a Phenolic .5 carb spacer. This cuts way down on the heat transfer between the engine and carb. From some research new fuels boil easier than old. The cooler you can keep your carb the better. Tomorrow it's going on and then I will tweak the idle mixtures and accelerator pumps. This should help me eleminate the stumble off idle and hard hot start. Re routed my vent for my fuel tank. More of a striaght up design. While under the car tonight I now have a leak at my pump inlet. Drip ever once an a while. I used high temp teflon and let it set up for 72hrs. These things are a bitch to seal. I also adjusted all four coil overs for the third time. The front is higher than I would like but it seems to still be settling. I am going to drive it for a few weeks and then worry about getting it perfect. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_1055.jpg |
Good to hear there is enough power for ya!!
Keep at it, the to-do list is getting shorter! Oh, and centering the rear wheel was an awesome bonus!! |
What a great day
For anyone that's been following Todds build, I'm hear to tell you it's a top notch!
Today Todd and I grabbed the girls and hit the Highway. First it was a run to breakfast out in Boulder City, followed by a cruise around the lake. Then it was over to Henderson for the big car show they had going on. It was great day with some killer cars....even four pro touring camaros (all members). Running down the Highway and around the Lake was a blast. Todds car has an amazing sound. It's as sweet as a P-51 Mustang! It was a real treat to see him in my rear view mirror and then watch him go booming by. He's made some awesome progress and the car shows his eye for detail. Sadly the battery in the Camera died after the few pictures. Once it's charged I'll see if any turned out and are worthy of posting. Thanks for the fun Todd....looking forward to next weekend. |
Had quite a few requests for a exhaust video. 3 inch magnaflow with x pipe dumped at the axle. Mellow but sounds pretty good at redline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH1SW7J74dU
Spending most of my time ironing out the bugs. I have to say it's one of my favorite phases on the car. Basically fine tuning a driving car. Today I drove down to George's Alignment shop. Old school shop opened in the 50's. I have found a bunch of local connections building this car. Still align cars with a set of plates, pit, and bubble gauges. Perfect since ever alignment shop couldn't put heads on m 19 inch rims. Steering wheel is perfectly straight and the camber is dialed in at .5 degrees negative. 100 bones and I'm out. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...gnmentshop.jpg I can't go anywhere without people flocking to this car. The alignment guy takes it out to check the steering wheel alignment and a photographer stops by and hands me his card. Good news is he has many strippers on hand for nude photos with the car. Old lady didn't seem to thrilled. What she doesn't know won't kill her right? I drove it down to Toyota to get a sun visor for my ladies truck. Harrassed on the way in and out. Kids go nuts over it and tonight a couple of hot young chicks were flirting with me like crazy. Didn't expect it to be so popular everywhere I go. |
cant really hear anything in that video (other than what sounds like air or wind). would love to hear one with someone revving it while standing outside the car or something, especially since i am considering the exact same exhaust setup. :D

So did you have a basic alignment before? Hate to see those tires get trashed!
|
Yep.....yours truly with a tape measure. :D It drove straight with no shims. It ended up being .5 positive. Now it's at .5 negative and 5 degrees caster. Toe dead nuts. Tires are wearing perfectly so far at 550 miles.
Flash you are going to have to wait until we get the real video done. My buddy is chomping at the bit but I want the interior done so it's pro. My camera is just not that great. It's really just a deep throaty all business sound. Curtis told me it's one of his favorite part of my car. Of course he's heard it at 5k blowing by his drivers door. |

It's been a couple weeks and I haven't got a whole lot accomplished. Well yes and no.
I have a small vibration that starts at 72. Thought it was wheel balance so I tried some dyna beads. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_1111.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_1110.jpg Not to bad to install. Take out the valve stems and put in 4 oz of these tiny beads. Patience goes a long ways. Didn't do a damn thing. :D I am starting to think it's just a by product of solid motor mounts and overdrive. |
