Picking up some more parts from D&R Classic (02-22-20)
As you can see it was a beautiful day out and I decided I would rather go for a drive then work on the car. So it was Parts run Saturday. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2fbe8c6-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...42f3cfd-me.jpg |
Then of course I went back to work on the car.
I spent a little time routing the wires a little better and securing them in place. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...110ce68-me.jpg Removing the paint from the ground area's http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cc420ce-me.jpg Yep another note. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2cd45f2-me.jpg It's kinda funny looking at this picture as I have been searching for the brake switch. Apparently it's on the harness. (yes I am going to go look at this post) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...02e9da8-me.jpg I put the steering wheel back on so I had something to grab when I am trying to get out from under the dash. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6dacb61-me.jpg Picked up some new stainless steel bolts for the AAW fuse box. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2ce1940-me.jpg and a Chunky Bar (looks like I am starting a trend here) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a3133b3-me.jpg Need to trim it to my desired length. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fe70e51-me.jpg I have saved this little screw driver for years and it has finally has been put to use. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6ff24e6-me.jpg Since my girls are out I had to become a little creative. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c3db5c1-me.jpg pulled out another tool that I seldom use. Yep it's ratcheting. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3c88b88-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e5fb5ba-me.jpg Firmly mounted. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e40a7db-me.jpg |
So everything going to the right is no longer needed so it's all going to the right for now.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f01d9f5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...932e0de-me.jpg Last minute I decided to go to the Muscle Car Show in Chicago/Rosemont and I picked up the cowl wiring gutter. I bought one that was trim to fit so I could make it my desired length. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e558580-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...1638949-me.jpg Next up. Clean up this wiring. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8ca338f-me.jpg For the life of me I can't remember where the Pink wire goes. ;-( http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bf7a340-me.jpg I kinda like this idea. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0aae9d7-me.jpg Who new there was this much wiring in a car without power windows, power door locks or a high end stereo. Next Up the Vintage Air Harness. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...54a569b-me.jpg More of that Tech Flex wrap http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fe60dac-me.jpg I an telling you guys you need a bike stand. I have used this more lately for my car then my bikes. The best part is I can tighten it up and push the trigger to turn on the Hot Knife. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...852e42a-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a4af1cc-me.jpg |

The good news or should I say great news is I am still working but my hours have been cut back to about 40 hours a week which is a nice change. I should also add I don't sleep much. Here is the info on the grommet. https://www.mcmaster.com/9600K231 9600K231 SBR Rubber Push-In Grommet for 1-7/8" ID and 1/16" Material Thickness, packs of 5 https://www.mcmaster.com/mvA/Content...=ImageNotFound |
Pink wire went to the distributor?
Looking good, Marty. Think the car will be back on the road this year? |

Quote:
maybe it's for the AC Compressor ? Will it be back on the road this summer ?? I sure the heck hope so as I was originally shooting for the Power Tour in May and now that it's moved out to the end of August I should have plenty of time to get it running again and get all of the bugs worked out before we hit the road. |
Loving the attention to detail and little upgrades.
I'll be curious to hear about your impressions with the Terminator X system compared to what you had before. I have loved mine since I installed it with a similar manifold/throttle body as you have now. One thing to note, you are going to have high intake air temps with the filter in that location. My filter is right off the intake just like yours and I see ~75* in the morning when I drive to work and it is in the 20's outside, and ~120*+ when it warms up to the 70's. So around a +50* change over the ambient temperature pulling air from through the radiator. I have been driving with it that way for a year and a half but definitely something I plan to remedy soon. |

I’m looking forward to the new set up and hoping everything works. I am also planning to do a Carbon Fiber intake tube similar to this. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d5154566cf.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Marty...did I miss how you handled widening the rear interior panels?

However, I think I may go a different route when I get to the interior over the winter. I really like how Nick did his as it looks much cleaner and is very simple which is like the most. |
Thanks. I haven’t seen that before. Definitely another option. Do you have any progress pics on the panels that Kenny did?
|
thats new idea for sure. clean and tightly bonded.

I am going to spend a little time looking for them tonight. |

Working on wire routing and keeping it so I can service it if needed.
Gratuitous Front End Shot. (02-25-20) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e8f6345-me.jpg So the plan is to run a portion of wires down the rocker gutter and sneak into the inside of the rear quarter. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8d03f10-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...df1666f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7f02ced-me.jpg So if you have been in my garage you have seen my collection of twist tie's. I use these for mock up instead of zip ties as I can quickly change directions and not waste zip ties. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fcf68a2-me.jpg If you look closely you can see all the wires are twist tied together and when I add the last couple wires I can easily add them in. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...aafd59d-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bbe9300-me.jpg Eventually these will be secured inside the quarter after I confirm everything works correctly. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a24df25-me.jpg Instead of using the giant factory plug I will replace all of the unions with weather pack connectors. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...df5138e-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...68b94d0-me.jpg Time to epoxy in a few more Weld Mounts http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0376e92-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...edaefc5-me.jpg Loom Anchored in place (02-26-20) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...df71267-me.jpg |
So this is one of those moments that most people don't think about or consider. (02-27-20)
With all of the new paint coating out there this is the time to have a Professional come in and do paint correction and surface coatings. The good news for me is my neighbor is that guy and he Gonzo Details. So I asked him to come over and correct and protect the paint before I get the front clip on the the car. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cbda031-me.jpg Firewall Complete. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...01f24f5-me.jpg Perfect time to surface protect and area that once the fenders and inner fenders you can't access. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a43be16-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...57e82db-me.jpg Yep, he even did inside the cowl. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ac04969-me.jpg Subframe http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bd97a95-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...784c9cb-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9f60277-me.jpg |

Valuable lessons learned in life (03-01-20)
Most people that know me are aware that I like to sit back and watch, listen, photograph so I can learn new thing and new ways to do things. The reason I photograph everything is so I can go back and look at what I saw a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even a 5th time. Being honest some times I go back and look at things so much that I print them out and stick them on the walls in my garage or my office. After seeing my wife work on white boards for years I realized that I could get a dry erase board for the garage and plan the wire routing that I wanted to do in this version of the car. It so much easier for me to have a visual plan versus something in my head. So once again out comes my Garage Desk and the dry erase board. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b40c213-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...79741a0-me.jpg Honestly, I really love Blue Tape if you all haven't figured that out yet. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cd2da39-me.jpg Once I am comfortable with the dry erase board I transfer my thoughts to the cars note pad. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3a0e857-me.jpg At the same time I am trying to plan the new dash layout since I am going with the new 7" Holley dash and I still want to have something that will fill the right side of the dash surround and I think this is what I am going to put in that area. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...61d938a-me.png http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...867fd68-me.png (03-05-20) Well somewhere along the way I misplaced a couple brackets and some hardware. Thankfully D&R Classics is only 25 minutes from my house so a Quick trip over and some Taco's and I am back to work on the car. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...73a99dc-me.png http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2f1457e-me.png http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e841587-me.jpg I also spent a little garage time searching for intake tube idea's and I am in love with the set up the guys at Chris Holstrom Concepts executed on there Camaro. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e11d604-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...932a9fe-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...111570f-me.jpg It's to bad I won't be using the grills as they look really nice. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...461b04f-me.jpg Making sure I have enough clearance for the weld studs. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a8f8099-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...210dc87-me.jpg Remember my note pad well I took a pictures of it and printed on 11 x 17 paper so I could tape it to the windshield. This way I won't need to look for my glasses every time I want to read it. I will also writes notes and changes on this so when the car is complete I can redo the wire diagram in case I ever need to look back I will be able to have a reference sheet. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8a65a78-me.jpg Back to Ace Hardware for some mock up bolts as these will all be replace with ARP bolts. (03-15-20) and of course another Chunky bar. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4f397f9-me.jpg Time to fit the core support and yes more blue tape as the Covid-19 Lock down makes it difficult to mount the core support safely by myself. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8b17ace-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...316b58b-me.jpg Here goes nothing. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...98f91af-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f4ef3df-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e9b80dc-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...756d590-me.jpg |

Playing with the Holley Harness Wrap ( 03-17-20 )
So I am not trying to redo the harness I am just trying it to make it look a little cleaner at the firewall entry point. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a72f612-me.jpg I just love removing the tape to expose the wires and how they wrap them together. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3ae2ae7-me.jpg I added some of the new tape just to keep the wires in place while I play with the routing. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af3db9a-me.jpg I cleaned the harness wrap up a little bit and as you can see the harness wants to go towards the drivers side of the car. Of course I need the harness to make a left and head over to the passenger side of the car. So I will need to get a silicone elbow which I will have to slit as I am not taking the harness apart. No Way No How !!! http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...de7aeff-me.jpg For now I just covered the harness with the wrong size Tech-Flex wraps just so I could see how it looked. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...580c1cd-me.jpg |
Stepping Back and getting ready for Adam @ Gonzo Detail and calling it a night soon I hope. (03-17-20)
Sometimes you just need to take a break and figure out what's next. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7e068b8-me.jpg So it is amazing how dirty a car gets with so few miles on it. However I did get caught in the rain a couple times and of course with no wipers. As you can see I not only take a bunch of pictures. I put notes on everything and when I bag them I make sure the bags are dated so I can go back and look at the pictures I took on that date. This prevents me from staring at bags and wonder where the heck those parts went. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bd684ea-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5f61099-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...864a738-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ff52480-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0545401-me.jpg These bolts will be replaced with more ARP or at least some stainless steel bolts. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...78f5333-me.jpg Looking forward to having this cleaned up and coated. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...87c457b-me.jpg Getting Ready for Adam http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b41f338-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f3d95e6-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3807731-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...67e2874-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2f9f4c8-me.jpg |
and yes I am saving all or at least most of my blue tape.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...de038a0-me.jpg A Couple more before pictures (03-18-20) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...86a6227-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9baf3ff-me.jpg after paint correction and coating. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ce41c40-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...766cb90-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...81f79f5-me.jpg Before http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...417459b-me.jpg after http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f8df2fb-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6fd5d68-me.jpg |
Good job Marty. I'm liking the pics...

So back to the center Channel (03-22-20)
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...422943b-me.jpg Time to bond in some "Weld Mount" for the center channel and the Vintage Air Defrost ducts. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7d9be6c-me.jpg adding more "Weld Mounts" for the wire harness. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...64110ef-me.jpg Yes, I have a lot of these clamps. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8866a74-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7cc3ac0-me.jpg Who new it would be so hard to center the center channel speaker. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6891f1f-me.jpg Weld Mounts installed and waiting to dry. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c126b52-me.jpg |
Adam from Gonzo Details is Back (( 03-24-20 ))
Brake Booster paint correced and coated. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2f9bac5-me.jpg Core Support paint corrected and coated. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...33baaa2-me.jpg yep, both sides http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...63b079a-me.jpg Anvil Carbon Fiber Close Out. Painting the back side of the upper and lower valance (( 03-27-20 ))
Since I am leaving the AC Condensor & Radiator natural I needed a contrast behind the grille. So I asked Larry to paint the backside of the panels. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8fcce59-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...147787f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...da4d688-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a93a149-me.jpg |
Back to the Kicker Sound System ( 04-04-20 )
and yes I brought out the 90's Dad (even though I didn't have kids back then) Black & Decker folding Workbench. Quick trip to Ace Hardware to get a piece of 1/4" MDF so I can make a bigger better template. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6ce3c09-me.jpg Gotta love a 4" Hole Saw. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4dde262-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...36650f1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...59b6cef-me.jpg It's starting to look like piece. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3ba3fdb-me.jpg Time to mount the "Weld Mounts" http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5622ab5-me.jpg For the center channels mounts I used JB Weld instead of the expensive panel pond. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0885884-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8f2badf-me.jpg |
The goal is to provide music without building a crazy sound system. I also don't want a head unit so I choose the Kicker PXiBT50.2 Blue Tooth amplifier. (( 04-04-20 ))
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c40b976-me.jpg I am still trying to figure out where I am going to install the controller. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0f0b5cb-me.jpg Installing a Kicker 100amp amplifier for the rear 6 x 9 speaker in the factory location. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6f99ab3-me.jpg Building the Amp Rack and keeping it compact as I would like to keep it tucked under the package tray. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d775fcd-me.jpg Bringing the cardboard back out. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3882b80-me.jpg Back to the MDF http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9010417-me.jpg Laying out the amp locations and where the holes need to be for wire routing and mounting of the amp rack. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...25a0858-me.jpg Looks like my planing so far is working out. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d7f8eeb-me.jpg |
Thankful for great neighbors (( 04-05-20 ))
So I called my Buddy Ben and asked if he had a small aluminum sheet and guess what he had it so work continue's on Sunday. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7031363-me.jpg Due to Covid-19 he cut it and left it on his tailgate for me to pick up. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3eec261-me.jpg It's all in the details and I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything before I started drilling holes in the only piece of aluminum I could get on a Sunday. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b99c46b-me.jpg Transferred everything over and started drilling holes. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...59317e9-me.jpg So far so good. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f45bc2c-me.jpg Time to test fit the panel under the package tray. So back in the trunk and make sure you take your Cell Phone just in case you get stuck in the trunk you need to call for help. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...01c9f48-me.jpg |
So I got tired of laying on the floor as it was very uncomfortable and I just so happened to have a factory carpet so I brought it home
and laid it out on the drive in the Sun to warm it up so it would lay kind of flat. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d53cd26-me.jpg and while it was Sunning I washed the car. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...72da689-me.jpg Test fit and it fit good-enough. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f6f079b-me.jpg |

Time to bond in the "Weld Mounts" and well I didn't like where two of the mounts were so I moved them so I could use two of the corner mounts for cable mounts. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c1785f7-me.jpg Time to cut of the rest of the MDF for supports while the panel bond is trying. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a18da39-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dfee6ba-me.jpg Test Fitting to see if it will work. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...027d9a5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cdc359c-me.jpg Back to the Center Channel for final fitting before powder coating. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bebd814-me.jpg It's amazing how carpet makes it look further along then it is. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6fe1654-me.jpg |
Back to the Trunk and making sure the Amp Rack is anchored to the package tray. ((04-11-20 ))
Well here goes nothing. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4b74206-me.jpg So I grabbed the sides and lifted myself up towards the package tray. Good news the Weld Mounts stayed attached. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9af521a-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9cea6c7-me.jpg |
Mocking up the amp rack. (( 04-14-20))

Cont.
Did the same for the speaker wire. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...aa049d0-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5159a03-me.jpg and yet there is more...Fuel Pump Wire http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8c35671-me.jpg Next up is to neatly run the wire is the channel in the rockers. For now the wires are twist tied together so I can add or remove wire as needed. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9357a95-me.jpg Routing the wire into the wire clamps that are mounted to the inside of the "B" pillar. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3dda17b-me.jpg |
