Picking up some more parts from D&R Classic (02-22-20)

As you can see it was a beautiful day out and I decided I would rather go for a drive then work on the car. So it was Parts run Saturday.

syborg tt 04-24-2020 06:26 PM

Then of course I went back to work on the car.

I spent a little time routing the wires a little better and securing them in place.

Removing the paint from the ground area's

Yep another note.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2cd45f2-me.jpg

It's kinda funny looking at this picture as I have been searching for the brake switch. Apparently it's on the harness. (yes I am going to go look at this post)

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...02e9da8-me.jpg

I put the steering wheel back on so I had something to grab when I am trying to get out from under the dash.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6dacb61-me.jpg

Picked up some new stainless steel bolts for the AAW fuse box.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2ce1940-me.jpg

and a Chunky Bar (looks like I am starting a trend here)

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a3133b3-me.jpg

Need to trim it to my desired length.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fe70e51-me.jpg

I have saved this little screw driver for years and it has finally has been put to use.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6ff24e6-me.jpg

Since my girls are out I had to become a little creative.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c3db5c1-me.jpg

pulled out another tool that I seldom use. Yep it's ratcheting.

Firmly mounted.

syborg tt 04-24-2020 06:28 PM

So everything going to the right is no longer needed so it's all going to the right for now.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...932e0de-me.jpg

Last minute I decided to go to the Muscle Car Show in Chicago/Rosemont and I picked up the cowl wiring gutter. I bought
one that was trim to fit so I could make it my desired length.

Next up. Clean up this wiring.

For the life of me I can't remember where the Pink wire goes. ;-(

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bf7a340-me.jpg

I kinda like this idea.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0aae9d7-me.jpg

Who new there was this much wiring in a car without power windows, power door locks or a high end stereo. Next Up the Vintage Air Harness.

More of that Tech Flex wrap

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fe60dac-me.jpg

I an telling you guys you need a bike stand. I have used this more lately for my car then my bikes. The best part is I can tighten it up and push the trigger to turn on the Hot Knife.

Hey if you don't mind...... in the pics of your spark plug wires, your grommet on your firewall that feeds your main harness looks nice and snug, care to share which one you used. Thanks.
Keep up the tidy detailing!

Hi Simon,

The good news or should I say great news is I am still working but my hours have been cut back to about 40 hours a week which is a nice change. I should also add I don't sleep much.

Here is the info on the grommet.

Thank you and the car didn't have a distributor but is did have a MSD box for the Carb set up. So maybe it went to that, I just don't remember. Looks like I am going to have to look back at pictures and see if I can figure it out.

maybe it's for the AC Compressor ?

Will it be back on the road this summer ?? I sure the heck hope so as I was originally shooting for the Power Tour in May and now that it's moved out to the end of August I should have plenty of time to get it running again and get all of the bugs worked out before we hit the road.

Loving the attention to detail and little upgrades.

I'll be curious to hear about your impressions with the Terminator X system compared to what you had before. I have loved mine since I installed it with a similar manifold/throttle body as you have now.

One thing to note, you are going to have high intake air temps with the filter in that location. My filter is right off the intake just like yours and I see ~75* in the morning when I drive to work and it is in the 20's outside, and ~120*+ when it warms up to the 70's. So around a +50* change over the ambient temperature pulling air from through the radiator. I have been driving with it that way for a year and a half but definitely something I plan to remedy soon.

I’m looking forward to the new set up and hoping everything works.

I am also planning to do a Carbon Fiber intake tube similar to this.

Kenny Cut and Stretched them with fiberglass.

However, I think I may go a different route when I get to the interior over the winter. I really like how Nick did his as it looks much cleaner and is very simple which is like the most.

cpd004 04-27-2020 01:16 PM

Thanks. I haven’t seen that before. Definitely another option. Do you have any progress pics on the panels that Kenny did?

Not right now as I can't seem to find them, which concerns me.

I am going to spend a little time looking for them tonight.

Working on wire routing and keeping it so I can service it if needed.

Gratuitous Front End Shot. (02-25-20)

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e8f6345-me.jpg

So the plan is to run a portion of wires down the rocker gutter and sneak into the inside of the rear quarter.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...df1666f-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7f02ced-me.jpg

So if you have been in my garage you have seen my collection of twist tie's. I use these for mock up instead of zip ties as I can quickly change directions and not waste zip ties.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fcf68a2-me.jpg

If you look closely you can see all the wires are twist tied together and when I add the last couple wires I can easily add them in.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...aafd59d-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bbe9300-me.jpg

Eventually these will be secured inside the quarter after I confirm everything works correctly.

With all of the new paint coating out there this is the time to have a Professional come in and do paint correction and surface
coatings. The good news for me is my neighbor is that guy and he Gonzo Details. So I asked him to come over and correct and protect
the paint before I get the front clip on the the car.

Valuable lessons learned in life (03-01-20)

Most people that know me are aware that I like to sit back and watch, listen, photograph so I can learn new thing and
new ways to do things. The reason I photograph everything is so I can go back and look at what I saw a 2nd, 3rd, 4th
or even a 5th time. Being honest some times I go back and look at things so much that I print them out and stick them
on the walls in my garage or my office.

After seeing my wife work on white boards for years I realized that I could get a dry erase board for the garage and plan
the wire routing that I wanted to do in this version of the car. It so much easier for me to have a visual plan versus something
in my head.

So once again out comes my Garage Desk and the dry erase board.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b40c213-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...79741a0-me.jpg

Honestly, I really love Blue Tape if you all haven't figured that out yet.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cd2da39-me.jpg

Once I am comfortable with the dry erase board I transfer my thoughts to the cars note pad.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3a0e857-me.jpg

At the same time I am trying to plan the new dash layout since I am going with the new 7" Holley dash and I still want to
have something that will fill the right side of the dash surround and I think this is what I am going to put in that area.

(03-05-20)

Well somewhere along the way I misplaced a couple brackets and some hardware.

Thankfully D&R Classics is only 25 minutes from my house so a Quick trip over and some Taco's and I am back to
work on the car.

won't need to look for my glasses every time I want to read it. I will also writes notes and changes on this so when the car is
complete I can redo the wire diagram in case I ever need to look back I will be able to have a reference sheet.

Playing with the Holley Harness Wrap ( 03-17-20 )

So I am not trying to redo the harness I am just trying it to make it look a little cleaner at the firewall entry point.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a72f612-me.jpg

I just love removing the tape to expose the wires and how they wrap them together.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3ae2ae7-me.jpg

I added some of the new tape just to keep the wires in place while I play with the routing.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af3db9a-me.jpg

I cleaned the harness wrap up a little bit and as you can see the harness wants to go towards the drivers side of the car. Of course
I need the harness to make a left and head over to the passenger side of the car. So I will need to get a silicone elbow which I
will have to slit as I am not taking the harness apart.

No Way No How !!!

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...de7aeff-me.jpg

For now I just covered the harness with the wrong size Tech-Flex wraps just so I could see how it looked.

Stepping Back and getting ready for Adam @ Gonzo Detail and calling it a night soon I hope. (03-17-20)

Sometimes you just need to take a break and figure out what's next.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7e068b8-me.jpg

So it is amazing how dirty a car gets with so few miles on it. However I did get caught in the rain a couple times and of course with no wipers.

As you can see I not only take a bunch of pictures. I put notes on everything and when I bag them I make sure the bags are dated so I can go back and look at the pictures I took on that date. This prevents me from staring at bags and wonder where the heck those parts went.

Gotta love a 4" Hole Saw.

Time to mount the "Weld Mounts"

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5622ab5-me.jpg

For the center channels mounts I used JB Weld instead of the expensive panel pond.

The goal is to provide music without building a crazy sound system. I also don't want a head unit so I choose the Kicker PXiBT50.2 Blue Tooth amplifier. (( 04-04-20 ))

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c40b976-me.jpg

I am still trying to figure out where I am going to install the controller.

Installing a Kicker 100amp amplifier for the rear 6 x 9 speaker in the factory location.

Building the Amp Rack and keeping it compact as I would like to keep it tucked under the package tray.

Looks like my planing so far is working out.

Thankful for great neighbors (( 04-05-20 ))

So I called my Buddy Ben and asked if he had a small aluminum sheet and guess what he had it so work continue's on Sunday.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7031363-me.jpg

Due to Covid-19 he cut it and left it on his tailgate for me to pick up.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3eec261-me.jpg

It's all in the details and I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything before I started drilling holes in the only piece of aluminum I could get on a Sunday.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b99c46b-me.jpg

Transferred everything over and started drilling holes.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...59317e9-me.jpg

So far so good.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f45bc2c-me.jpg

Time to test fit the panel under the package tray. So back in the trunk and make sure you take your Cell Phone just in case you get stuck in the trunk you need to call for help.

So I got tired of laying on the floor as it was very uncomfortable and I just so happened to have a factory carpet so I brought it home
and laid it out on the drive in the Sun to warm it up so it would lay kind of flat.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d53cd26-me.jpg

and while it was Sunning I washed the car.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...72da689-me.jpg

Test fit and it fit good-enough.

Boy it would be nice to roll the dang windows up and down. (( 04-10-20 ))

Going back in the trunk (( 04-10-20 ))

Time to bond in the "Weld Mounts" and well I didn't like where two of the mounts were so I moved them so I could use two of the corner mounts for cable mounts.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c1785f7-me.jpg

Time to cut of the rest of the MDF for supports while the panel bond is trying.

Back to the Trunk and making sure the Amp Rack is anchored to the package tray. ((04-11-20 ))

Well here goes nothing.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4b74206-me.jpg

So I grabbed the sides and lifted myself up towards the package tray.

Good news the Weld Mounts stayed attached.

Time to run more wire for the amp rack.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...1c25407-me.jpg

Since I like things neat and tidy I joined the wires before running the wires.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...29b3a17-me.jpg

Yes it's time consuming and to me it's worth it in the end.

and yet there is more...Fuel Pump Wire

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8c35671-me.jpg

Next up is to neatly run the wire is the channel in the rockers. For now the wires are twist tied together so I can add or remove wire as needed.

Routing the wire into the wire clamps that are mounted to the inside of the "B" pillar.
