You're telling me! I've never driven a car so little in such a long period of time!

LOL

But like Skippy said -- it's not getting pooped on. It's just a poopie hot rod!

GregWeld 05-06-2012 06:12 PM

Rear end went to Kugel -- and was completely gone thru - new center section installed and return -- all in ONE WEEK!

It's back in the car as of this afternoon.... I just have the parking brake left to install and she'll be on the road again.

Still amazed at the service Kugel has done on this piece. In all my years of hot rodding - NOBODY has been more proactive or given me better service. Nobody.

:hail: :hail: Kugel

Jeff and I have already discussed hangin' out at the L.A. Roadsters Fathers Day show in June. I'll have the little red hen down there for that. I promised him I would not jump on it til then!

LOL

PS -- Was informed the toter is 22 weeks (if I'm lucky.....)

waynieZ 05-06-2012 06:50 PM

Good news Greg! I'll mention you and the Little Red Hen in my prayers tonight. All good wishes going your way... It doesn't seem as bad when a company works with you on a problem instead of being part of the problem.

Sieg 05-06-2012 07:25 PM

Great news Greg!

Kudos to Kugel's for handling the issues properly. :hail:

GregWeld 05-06-2012 07:59 PM

Ya know --- as much as I hate to have "issues" with anything --- I really can't say enough about how this has been handled. Just 200% first class. Kugel has called ME -- I've never had to call them... Other than shipping the rear end down to them (and back) they've covered everything. I have offered on multiple times to share or contribute - or to cover in full any costs for upgrades or whatever... and they've steadfastly refused. I finally told Jeff to STOP apologizing! I'm a big boy... and totally get that stuff breaks... I was smokin' the tires etc... NOT ONCE have they said.... well yeah ya probably shouldn't be doing that.... In fact it's been 100% the opposite! He's said "you should be able to do that!"

Anyway -- 'nuff said. I'll be happy to drive it again. The weather is supposed to be nice all week here (rare!) so all is good.

you need to do a vendor feedback thread for them, so others who may not read this thread will find it.

Vegas69 05-06-2012 09:15 PM

I wouldn't be happy until I found out the problem is fixed. But that's me. :D

GregWeld 05-06-2012 09:22 PM

I've never mentioned being happy with the product! Just the service...

Track Junky 05-06-2012 10:51 PM

Wow Greg, I flipped through this thread really quick knowing I need to hit the sack soon and it appears that you've had some major drama with this build. I wont comment much more as I intend to spend more time reading later but it sounds like things are getting better?

A little drama.... Far more than there should have been because at this level of car build there shouldn't have been ANY. However - almost exactly a year after "taking delivery" it's almost drivable.

So after Brizio got the little POS to drive nicely -- and Kugel got the Champ Quick change to stop breaking the stub axles... I'm happily cruising the Monterey Peninsula after taking her to the L A Roadsters roadster show in Pomona this last weekend.

Love the frameless windshield. Any idea who makes it? Need one for a 29'

Swain 06-20-2012 10:11 AM

Greg,

Those Muroc 3's would look killer on that car. I should of brought that one over and sat it next to your car.

Lenie 06-20-2012 11:52 AM

First time I saw your car I was hooked, been keeping my eye out for a fixer ever since. I tell my wife, hey blame Greg! Beautiful car:thumbsup:

Nice pic! Is the other deuce sectioned?

Awesome.
Looks like you're finally enjoying your car Greg. Good to see!

Track Junky 06-20-2012 09:00 PM

Sounds like a great time Greg. Who's "mini-me"?

GregWeld 06-21-2012 09:47 PM

Sorry for the delayed response... 4 days after leaving Pomona -- We've finally reached all the way to Willows, CA! That's about 495 miles north... on my journey home. :D

We left Pomona - and made it all the way to San Luis Obispo the first day (Monday). Backed the cars out - went to see Kyle and Paul Newman at Pauls house/shop... then up to Hearst Castle... and down California Hiway 1.

The next day we moved 2 hours north to Big Sur... backed 'em out and drove to Monterey and Carmel... and back to Big Sur...

The next day we got all the way to Yountville (Napa Valley)... After a too long shop tour and BS session with Roy Brizio... and then got into serious San Francisco afternoon traffic....

Today we made it to Willows, CA around noon - then backed 'em out and drove to Chico - then down to Oroville and then up to Oroville Dam - then out to Thunderhill.

Mike --- I don't think that Stan and Sues car is sectioned. It's the same body I have (Westcott) -- It's a 1994 Great 8 car... all torsion bar suspension and the Northstar engine. Killer car but doesn't ride real well. I want to boogie at 65 or 70 and they want to go 50 and bounce all over. Plus it has 4:86's and they're turning 3600 rpms when I'm turning 2000. After this trip they will make some effort to make it a "driver". They have another car and this is really the first time they spent serious seat time in this one.

Musclerodz 06-21-2012 10:25 PM

Both are beautiful rides, no doubt about that.

Those are some fantastic stops Greggers... was that your first time to Hearst? Did you actually go up and see it? I just went there last year with my fam... crazy cool place.

Yes we took the main floor tour. It is an amazing place... personally I liked the outside better... the inside is dark and gloomy. What really struck me though - was - since I've just returned from Italy where there are truly amazing 1000 year old structures -- is how fast the exterior of this place is deteriorating! Since much of it is poured concrete or limestone... the building is already losing it's DETAILS... unlike the buildings of early Europe that were carved from marble and granite and have amazing details to this day.

GregWeld 06-23-2012 10:28 AM

We parked in Carmel - and strolled around... when we came back - not only were we having a "car show" with onlookers -- but some guy was painting my car! How fun is that?!?!

Greggers?

GregWeld 06-23-2012 10:33 AM

We had to stop by Paul Newman's shop where he and Kyle make the chassis! This is just a bit inland from Big Sur and on our way to the Hearst Castle... and thankfully Kyle had advised us to visit them EARLY in the day and it gets quite a bit hotter in the afternoon! You could feel a 25* temp drop when we crested some hill and hit the coastal air! Man did that feel good!

That rear end is bad-azz, in appearance if nothing else...

Car looks great, and your "journeys" are awesome. They should follow you around with a camera - it would be better than most of the crap we watch for car shows. The Greg Weld Show!

Edit - Is that 32 coming to Columbus?!

Yeah -- it sucks to be me!

The beater mobile.... I've had this old clap trap 13 or so years -- a couple different chassis -- 4 or 5 different motors -- and she still just hums along. Lots of miles on this beast that's for sure... lots of HARD miles!

Interior is OLD Gabe Lopez -- but I built the console and added it later....

I rented a house at Post Ranch Inn - Big Sur... because there were 5 of us traveling together (Gwen stayed home) and it was easier than getting 3 rooms on the coast like this. Plus they had special trailer parking for us. It's tough to get 3 rigs somewhere all together!

This was the 'morning scene' -- as we were high on a cliff so we were above the fog! Note the deer in the lower left....

In an hour when the sun came up - that fog lifted and we were in a total white out for a couple hours!

"THE RIGS" ---- at the Madonna Inn -- San Luis Obispo...

If you want to see a friggin freak show --- check out that place on the internet!

We stayed there -- super clean and nice -- but FREAKY! The restaurant was OMG UGLY... but the food was fantastic!! Go figure!
