Nothing to see here, really!
Hey guys I appreciate the requests for updates, however I don't have anything to update. Having the car stored safely in Kevin's shop is a great thing as I don't have any room to store let alone work on my car here, hopefully real soon I can have a 2 car garage with an attached house :confused59:
Hope all peoples have a Merry Christmas and some good family time!!! |
Merry Christmas Chief, enjoy the season.
|
Awesome, everyone needs a big garage, at least a 2 car,
I've actually been working on my car, I'm trying to catch up to you.......lol |

Was looking back at the RUST my Camaro had when I started I thought I might share some pics in case some of you hadn't seen the beginning .... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1.../120330175.jpg If you think patching a corner of the door will fix the rust think again!! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1.../120610846.jpg Looking up into the quarter from the trunk! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...1212161646.jpg The door pillar where a mouse house was sitting on the shelf, yuck! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...1304262080.jpg Yeah seam sealer in the trunk ... what a waste of time! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...5/12021110.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...0/854/zbdg.jpg Big blob of DVM ... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...90/39/beoz.jpg Causes the quarter to rust out .. grrrr! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...743/5i1e4z.jpg This pic makes me cringe!!! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...909/oMo9bh.jpg Side tulip rust, making me sick to my stomach .... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/VV0Urx.jpg Both sides looked like this ... yours does too! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/HuHBi7.jpg IF you don't replace your roof it will keep rusting .... So that's why my OCD took over and I replaced all the metal ... lipstick on a pig doesn't cover up the pig, lol! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/ID0vkH.jpg One of my favorite pictures ... post rust of course! |
Nice work Chief, you are doing it the right way. I'm in the middle of a similar situation on my project. I replaced the entire floor from toe boards to the tail lights. At this rate our cars will out live us. :headscratch:
It's nice to take a step back and recap on occasion. Documenting the build process is excellent because you can see the steps, time and materials invested that gets forgotten once everything looks pretty. For me the odd pause to reflect gives me perspective and makes staying motivated to keep moving forward much easier. |
Same here
More I explored more rust I found.. ended up with just roof and quarters everything else was cut out and replaced

Long Time Gone ...
hey isn't that a Dixie Chicks song? My car is finally home, thanks to Kevin for keeping her safe and sound, and only steps away from me now! [insert happy dance] I had to put her on wheel doolies to I can move it from one side to the other and still get a door open. Of course the XR650R has to be pushed outside to move the Camaro. I have been working on final body work, which is not my favorite task, and hopefully get it back into epoxy and then wrap.
I pulled the maroon wrap off the front valance and header, didn't undercoat the back sides, and found out the SPI Epoxy didn't want to let go of the wrap. I came off in little bitty pieces and then left the adhesive which I had to "skin" off with a razor blade, grrr. So a call to SPI and he suggested I clear coat over the SPI Epoxy to provide a barrier to the wrap. After all, clear is nothing more the paint w/o pigment. Knowing my limits I have a body man coming over next week to look at what needs to be done to get the doors and the front sheet metal aligned and looking as good as the body tub. Meanwhile I'll finish the body the best I can and start with the mock up of wiring [AAW 15] and A/C [V/A]. I ordered Speedtech tubs and engine down bars, and sent my Ididit column back to get shortened, thanks Jay, for working with me! Well, here's some car porn for your viewing pleasure, and yes I sat out the shed and petted my car when she came home, missed her bunches! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/Ag6Qbs.jpg Got the shed cleaned and started laying down some vinyl flooring . she deserves better than a greasy ol floor! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/hLGNRl.jpg Pulled out of Kevin's car hauler! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/U0WHyn.jpg After some "redneckery" loading she's home :relax: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/laj9cV.jpg Not a lot of room, but we all have to work with what we have! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/SparUs.jpg Started sanding down the SPI epoxy and added filler to getter straight as I can! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/YQdK9A.jpg Working on the hood today, half done! Other than that, went out to Sonoma to see Greg's car run and hang with some great guys that came out to support Greg and his family. I also went down to PPIR OPTIMA and saw the gang from Cali, got to ride with Efrain on the cruise, thanks buddy ..good times:D The goal is to drive the OPTIMA in my car next year! Well time to turn on the big fan and get to work, thanks for looking ... |
Glad to see the car is back with you again. Good luck making Optima next year, Chief
|
Looks awesome.
I really love the red Upper and lower valance. |

I am soooooo glad to have it so close! Thanks buddy that's my goal:thankyou: Quote:
Thanks, I learned a lot wrapping these parts . prematurely, now to get my compressor wired up this weekend and get the Lizard Skin on the back side and some black epoxy on the inner front fenders. UPDATE: Finished the hood, AC is shipped and have some tubing coming for the brakes and fuel lines, time to get to work plumbing the car:hairpullout: Still in a haze with the passing of Greg . |
Parts and pieces are coming in ...
Now to get to work:lol: Just wished it wasn't this dang hot, maybe I should work through the night when it's cooler, lol.
Still waiting on some cable sheaving and shrink wrap for the electrical, a starter solenoid with cables for a truck mount battery. Pictures for you viewing pleasure . https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/773/2eC0DD.jpg Speedtech inner fenderwells made by Glastek, I already have the down bars! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4349/YaLmEu.jpg Control panel will get mounted in the center dash somewhere! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8822/Sd9OsC.jpg Got the EZ-clips for the AC hoping for better bend radius and ease of installation. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9347/SXrxZx.jpg Got the evap unit mocked up! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/761/fxQdwn.jpg Had to search hard to find these bulkhead fittings for the Finch plate https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6792/lfgWuJ.jpg Mastercool flaring tool for the AN fittings for fuel and brake lines. Trying to plan ahead and think of all the parts I might need  and I thank Vince for sharing his knowledge and answering all my stupid questions! Post install pictures to come, thanks for looking |
looking good Chief!
|
I got gas ....
lines from tank to firewall! Well that was a lesson in patience but I persisted and :gitrdun: . I did have to re-make the rear fuel line cuz I tried to correct one bend that was too short and the just made it worse, so I made a new one this morning in about a half an hour.
I left the fuel line long at the firewall and did not terminate it yet, may add a 45 degree and GM quick disconnect or leave it parallel to the firewall. Figure it's best to not commit to termination side just yet! And my Ididit column came back, had to have it shortened to 30" to fit with the extreme subframe, thanks to Speedtech for labor and shipping charges. Well here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/3417/kViKjs.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9985/A4bD3F.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/8531/0AEgJc.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/11/CRjtZg.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6193/r9qrGU.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9324/SDpag8.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9752/SxOChf.jpg I also received my QuickCar battery relocation kit that included the starter solenoid and cables, not gonna use the dash plate, really meant for dirt track guys. Now back to install of the VA evap and lines, thanks for looking ... |
The lines came out nice.

Keep plugging away with all that is electrical and needs to tie into the AAW 15. Seems GM already has a relay for the fans, fuel pump and ac in their factory harness, nice scratch that off the list. I did find out that the Racepak needs a feed for the engine speed and oil pressure so I ordered the associated male connectors and seal for the Delphi connector that GM leaves dead headed as their bulkhead connector. Figured I'd get keep moving while I'm waiting on parts to installed the Raingear Hidden Wiper system. Pretty straight forward, used some flex tubing and heat shrink and she's in, I'll finish the final alignment tomorrow. Here's some pictures https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/474/2fu5fI.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8862/LMSKjI.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8084/pZEuQq.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8997/Lta6Ru.jpg I'll keep working on electrical and get some routing and finalize the battery, solenoid, breaker and forward connections for power. Thanks for looking . |
Nice work as always Chief! Glad your back at it.
|
Great attention to detail as always. One thing I would suggest is to use some kind of fan controller that gives you more than a simple on/off. These fans are noisy when running full speed. Entropy has a two speed controller or better yet the continuously variable PWM controller from DC Controls works great.
Don |
Nice progress...
|
Thanks guys!
Quote:
Don, thanks, I do have the Entropy speed controller uh, somewhere that I haven't found yet. I will use their controller as soon as I find it, I'm also looking for my Rick's fuel pump pigtail for the SS Camaro fuel pump. :EmoteClueless: Quote:

Update 8/6
OCD taking over here ... but I would bet no one ever thought to check the ID of their brand new AN-3 fittings! Well I received my Fragola fittings for the brake lines, mainly bulkhead fittings and some 90 and 45 degree fittings and after inspection I noticed there was a difference in the 'shoulder' of many of the fittings at the 37 degree flange. So I investigated the difference and found the straight through fittings would easily accept a 1/8' drill bit … hmmm, so I went through the entire order of fittings and made them all 1/8" minimum. I put the drill bit in the vice and 'hand drilled' the fitting onto the bit. Most obstruction came from the bulkhead fittings with 90 and 45's that weren't drilled all the way through to the end [if that makes sense].
Definitely time consuming, but a task I needed to get done to ensure all ID's were the same. Pictures may not be that good but you get the idea :shakehead: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/7113/u9RQCu.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8423/GzF8Vr.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2791/ku6ffz.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8809/mVGHcV.jpg I got the brake lines mocked up and will steady the course and continue the task of routing the brake lines …. thanks for looking! |
Uodate 8/10
Electrical going well …. mostly routed to not interfere with other things, mainly worried about how much space those VA hoses take up.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9613/ZwadOj.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9994/lbYc9B.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/7409/mnHxwH.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/5308/uG974b.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2979/6fuTAx.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9475/oKprhd.jpg Placed each system close enough to where they need to terminate to get the BIG Picture so far. Waiting on some bulkhead pass throughs before I commit to drilling holes in the tulip panel. And … does anyone know how to wire this Rick's Fuel Pump connector? I left a message with Rick's but heard nothing back yet. I have a fuel gauge feed wire to the back of the car but not a fuel pump feed yet. Thanks for looking …. |
Black and white to the connector are fuel pump power and ground. Black is ground.
The tan and black/white wires are the fuel sender and fuel sender ground. Don |
Quote:
Don, thanks bunches, that's what I thought too. Just confusing why they would put male spade connectors on the sender unit? Basically they added the fuel sender wires into the red flex wrap so you could get to it from the trunk. Thanks again  |
Kiss ...
ran into fitment problems
the Wilwood proportioning valve combo mount wouldn't work
seems when you add a clutch master cylinder plate to your firewall you don't have any threads left on the upper MC mount. :EmoteClueless:
Thought of using new bolts [which meant taking out the steering wheel and the under dash brace and pressing out the studs and adding new ones] but after a sleeping on it I said "why can't you just turn the bracket over and use it on the left side?" So that's what I did, trimmed the bracket, got new nuts to clear the valve handle, cut and painted it with SEM black :gitrdun: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9961/iwiGo2.jpg Finished the install of the AAW 15 waiting on the bulkhead plugs. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1372/3xKQOz.jpg Made order out of the chaos RacePak, notice my Excel spread sheet :mock: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4237/0d5lTJ.jpg This was not going to work on the right side anyway Speedtech down bars want to occupy the same space! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8906/V2rMiZ.jpg So turn in upside down and put it on the left side, hey! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2342/D1GlHI.jpg That's mo better. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8863/70jAQz.jpg Figured since I was in the engine compartment I'd form the hard lines. I'm glad I choose the NiCo lines cuz I would have messed up some SS. The SS coil lines were harder then heck to cut but look nice. Now to disassemble and send back the MC for the recall thanks for looking! |
Update 8/17
Been doing a little this and that ... made some brake lines from the proportioning valve to the bulkhead fittings, came out pretty good. My battery came in so I worked in the trunk and now I will be going to the chiropractor tomorrow :ohsnap: I'll work on the rest of the brake lines next.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2934/suWaEn.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/3871/h6Y5Dm.jpg First time I made battery cables from scratch, Kevin loaned me his crimper and cutter to get' er dun, thanks bunches. I climbed in the trunk and drilled and tapped a ground on the roll bar and mounted the mega fuse in an accessible place, well sorta, hopefully I'll never have to replace it. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/5267/XG2OHY.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4862/bC4hMn.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1869/aCKufU.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/2328/curHUH.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1869/aCKufU.jpg Drilled a hole in the driver's side tulip panel and pulled the forward wires through, still need to add the power and the switch wires for the horns, which just came in, Hella of course. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5572/jRE3ye.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8785/KcgRLe.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6070/jrXozt.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7528/hqwqyF.jpg More to come later, thanks for looking ... |
Looks great :gitrdun:
|
Are you using aluminum AN fittings for your brake lines? That's a big no no if you are.
|
Back at it
after a little break helping my buddy Pete get his Rocky Mountain Sheep Ram!!!! Had a blast in the mountains but I can tell anyone that hasn't attempted this hunt it was not for the faint of heart.
All things electrical finished up the trunk wiring and the front lighting. Luckily I had keep all the OEM harness and I needed the single element reverse light socket and the front turn signal sockets. I was surprised that AAW didn't include a wire for the reverse lights so I ran it forward and will terminate it when I get the T56 installed. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9401/KbXGbO.jpg This is the terminated brown wire for the rear lights and license plate light, 1 into 3 really! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/829/CyBWra.jpg OEM single element socket for the reverse light, had to get the contact out of the socket to reuse the socket. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6510/7MgAoC.jpg The rear harness all loomed out and my fingers still hurt, 4 wires filled the 1/4 loom and it was tight! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/6088/ytJHRY.jpg Had to tap the stands on the housings to accept 8-32 screws and then a coat of reflective paint, looks good! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8896/GCsqED.jpg I was very surprised to find the front turn signals I ordered matched the OEM ones, nice! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/8517/C6wxgF.jpg Luckily I had the OEM sockets for the turn signals, molex butt connector and heat shrink and she's good to go. I unwrapped my front GM grille assembly and to my surprise there was my dash pad:confused59: Guess it's been wrapped since 2011 to protect it from the crud. Thinking I'll send it in and get a make over but not as bulky as GM made them in the 60's. I set it in place with the new turn signals to get the lengths and placement of the wiring harness. Next is to take the rivets out and get it powder coated and install my NOS grille insert . can't wait! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4016/bWv8Iz.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4632/BsjXD0.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/8827/mw9jiJ.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9314/sU56DA.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/8020/CGN5rB.jpg I have the OEM clip for the harness running across the tail pan, just needed cleaning and some paint! Making progress on the wiring still need to loom everything once I know all is well and works and planned. Thanks for looking ... |
progress. nice. loved the shots on ig of u guys trying to get that horned thing.
get that thing done so u can join us on tour... |

Thanks Mike, it was a blast in the mountains and helping Pete get his dream sheep was worth the risks. I'm trying to get as much done as I can before winter sets in |
Update 9/28
Update on the ol girl ... well first off the center dash panel from Classics didn't fit fer sh!te, didn't follow the concave of the dash so I ordered an Anvil blank panel!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/830/2unFaO.jpg I keep the OEM dash panel . they are not the same! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/745/2PUfhO.jpg What else? Oh my Wilwood MC came back from the recall they had on the 7/8, so that's back on the car. Now I can finish up the front brake lines maybe tomorrow :gitrdun: So I did some looming and some de-looming (is that a word?) today. Took all that plastic loom off the GM harness and taped up loose wires for future use. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9601/TnwgnV.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6391/LVL7GQ.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6849/c9CLih.jpg Still need to drill out the holes for the ac and heater hoses!! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8249/o6kLNC.jpg That's a lot of plastic looming ... Got the Finch firewall plate installed and the VA evap unit bolted to the plate from the inside. Thinking of bolting on the ECM and fuse box on this plate to keep it simple. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/2540/QvAzL7.jpg And my Dapper Lighting 7" LED projector lights came in and they do not need any mods to the bucket :D that's a WIN there!!! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5799/FogCDH.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2614/Oz3Qqm.jpg That's it for now, more to come tomorrow, thanks for looking |
Love the progress Chief! Your valvecovers/ cylinder head will be awfully close to that relay panel mounted on the Finch plate. Id do a mock-up with engine in, before I drilled any holes.

Thanks for the feedback... |
Drilling into a
perfectly good firewall!!! Not a big deal really, after all it's only metal right?
The template on VA's website was not the same as the Finch firewall plate and it was a good thing I checked. Measure twice and cut once right :confused59: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/5445/9GwD9r.jpg Centered and drilled 7/8 inch hole for AC connections! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3311/OIq1K5.jpg Had to move the Camaro over to get to the firewall! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4331/Rt0OCY.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7241/a0hvVZ.jpg Figured I'd get the front driver's side brake line done too! Thanks for looking ... |
Somethings go well
and somethings don't!! Thought I'd share some parts that work as designed and some that didn't.
First the good, I ordered the DSE throttle plate for the C6 accelerator and it is a well designed piece and fit perfectly. Had to run a 1/4-20 tap through the Sheetmetal but no biggie! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6012/SujsXK.jpg Next was the not so good been frustrated with finding a blank dash panel for my car and thought Anvil would be the solution (they said their panel followed the contours of the dash) but it didn't fit for sh!te. The angle for the roll off at the bottom was all wrong and there was not enough concave in the panel. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5664/DWZgdQ.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9484/fwBisL.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8396/MKyiMP.jpg If anyone has any solutions to this dash dilemma I'd love to hear from you!!!! Thinking of making a wooden buck and re-contouring the Classic Ind Sheetmetal dash panel to fit OEM dash. And to share some things that I found that might help someone else out how to attach the upper and grille to the center piece. How about the attaching the turn signals through the grille? Ace Hardware to the rescue https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/129/Fp594D.jpg The course threads required a license plate nut! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9148/zAQ3vA.jpg Bought plastic nuts and bolts to hold the center dash to upper and lower panels! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6288/bznqHq.jpg Anyone with any input into the dash dilemma I'd appreciate your input. Anvil said they would refund the panel but that doesn't help my vision of a blank panel. I sent a bunch of stuff out for powder coating and well see if they come through, thanks for looking ... |
