"Sprained and stretched" sounds better than torn or detached. Sounds like you’ll be fine… that’s good news!

Take care and obey the doc :sieg:

Didn't change the muffler, it's this one but from 1991, don't know if it's been changed.

Sounds like some of the mechanical rasp is gone due to the tail pipes angle and possibly shorter length?

intocarss 05-29-2013 02:46 PM

I like the sound or yours. I have 50 series flowmasters and not happy about it

fleet 05-29-2013 02:47 PM

Congrats Sieg sounds great....smooth with a nasty edge.

Thanks gents. That video is shot with the GoPro Hero3 with the new firmware upgrade so that's probably change the sound a little. I'll shoot one with my DSLR to compare the sound against the other video.

Don't like that smoke! Couldn't tell if it was oil or fuel, might need to make a serious ring seating run. :headscratch:

Agreed, hoping for better with 400 miles on a fresh hone and new rings.

Those heads have Chinese valve seals? LOL!

Cost me almost a grand just to have those heads "re-done".... by one of the best head guys here in Seattle... So no... better not be chinese seals!

Think it might be the Chinese guy that tuned it?? Didn't look like blue smoke to me in the video... and how long had it idled???

intocarss 05-29-2013 07:04 PM

Hard to tell but that smoke looked dark. Car could of loaded up a little while idling too.

Sieg 05-29-2013 07:07 PM

Just f'n with ya. It's most likely loaded up and the owner is excessively paranoid. :sieg:

No worries I know the guy that did the carb and he's a hack. :mock: I'm sure it's just rich on the transition.

Sounds good

little rich on the left bank, right side looks good.

GregWeld 05-30-2013 06:08 AM

Well that's a 10 to 1 vote in favor of the issue being a crappy tuner.... er I meant.... a rich carb. :smiley_smack:

Handicapped would be more appropriate in my case........:sieg:
Especially if it qualifies me for all that vacant prefered parking. :D

Us old two-stroke guys learned the lesson the hard way.........erroring on the rich side doesn't blow stuff up.

Sieg 06-18-2013 02:06 PM

One thing I like about Lat-g is not posting in my project thread for 18 days and I've been bumped to position 114!

Regarding the carb......I pulled it off to reverify butterfly positions and change back to the 6.5 (as delivered) power valves. Transfer slot exposure was .025 as I was told by the Holley Tech.......:headscratch: I thought screw that since I've been getting a crappy idle signal (rich at idle, lean at take off) and closed the primary and secondary butterflies then opened them a 1/4 turn, checked the pump linkage tension, went back to the 70 idle air jets as delivered, and set the fuel screws at 1 turn out.

Fired it up and tried to adjust to a stable 1K rpm idle with the idle air bypass circuit but it wanted to hunt a little. Gave it about 1/8 turn on P/S butterflies and readjusted the IA bypass and it was close. Put a vac gauge to it and set the fuel screws which end up around 1.25 turns. Bingo! It was close. Test drive indicated when slowing to a stop it wanted to stall, added an 1/8 turn on the full screws, better, another 1/8 and it's pretty close.

If that tech happens to read this............:smiley_smack:

Today the daughter and I took a quick trip to the scales to verify the car weight.............

Weights are with just over 3/4 of a tank of fuel.
3360 with 90 lbs of fuel - Front 55.35% Rear 44.65%

Track Junky 06-18-2013 05:31 PM

Sieg, have you tried playing with your screw in air bleeds yet? I know back in the day I drilled the ones out in my HP 830 and it made a difference for the better. Cant remember the details now as it was so long ago but it maybe something to look into.

Yes, I started with the 70's, went to 68's (richer) in the goosechase, then back to the 70's for the sequel.......I also bought some 73's just in case. It's in the ballpark based on drivability but I need to get an AF gauge installed for verification. Then mount the GoPro to capture the AF gauge and tach for a little redneck telemetry. :D

Ran it up to 6.5K for the first time since the freshen up and slammed 2nd today leaving the weigh scales and had no transition complaints.

Still maybe a touch lean as it needs to get to full op temp for a good idle, 6th gear throttle response at 2K rpm with my 3:31 gears is nice and smooth. ALso has a slight surge under trailing throttle when cornering, I believe that indicates a slight lean condition which fuel screw adjustments should eliminate.

The tuning weather here has been 48*-62* then 59*-84* windy cloudy rain and varying humidity........in one week. :D

It should be good enough to make a trip to T-Hill if the stars align right! :unibrow:

glassman 06-18-2013 07:19 PM

I you go to Thunder Hill be sure to get some on track video with the GoPro :drive:... I wanna see what you got!

I checked the weights on my car for comparison to yours... our cars are pretty similar other than the LS engine vs the Gen 1 engine.

weight on mine is with 1/2 of a tank of fuel
total weight 3470, front 1840, rear 1630
53% front, 47% rear.

Pretty close on weights... mine is a little heavier overall for some reason.

SONOMA -- NOR CAL SHELBY CLUB -- August 3rd and 4th...

http://www.norcal-saac.org/summersurprise/

Charley and I are signed up.

"The Rig" was dropped off at Poulsbo RV today for 30' X 12' of Girard awning.... BBQ is installed... Water is loaded... Chairs? Check! Even have the Direct TV satellite up and working... (so Charley can nap peacefully).

clill 06-18-2013 09:48 PM

Greg might be going to Thunderhill but the rest of us are going to Sears Point. It would be nice if Greg brought the pimpin mobile to the right track so I could have a place to take a nap.

Sieg 06-18-2013 09:49 PM

No plan on entering, I'll just be playing pit-tootsie. :theresa: The car has to get me back!

Regarding weights - Cooler and lines, coolant capacity, dry sump and lines, oil, rear sway bar, rear discs, subframe connectors, roll bar, stereo and speakers, etc. all add up.
