LOL —- I’ve had the same discussion with Steve Frisbee (SAR) - Roy Brizio - and CHRA..... “I don’t give a damn about chrome.... build it right...because it’s going to get driven and driven hard”.

So far only Roy and CHRA got it right.

A buddy that now owns the blue ‘33 Brizio car - told me a week ago - “that car is the fastest car I’ve ever driven - it’s scary fast!” .... He owns MANY fast cars - Porsche - Ford GT40 - many fast cars.... I just laugh at the thought....

I wish all of you could experience the thrills and fun we have on the Hall of Fame Tour.... the entire point of owning and building “hot rods”/“Pro Touring”..... DRIVE ‘EM.... Drive ‘em cross country.... drive ‘em to the store.... drive ‘em to church on Sunday.... Pick out an event or show a couple states away and drive to and from. You’ll find out real soon if you built a car or a pile of sheet metal holding paint.....

Awesome build Greg! Congrats on the magazine shoot and Good-Guys...I'd say you're starting out pretty good for the first part of the year. Well done.

I am coming around to this way of thinking... I’m tired of my car being garage furniture.

Clear bra for paint protection - don’t forget where the tires are “wider than the body” areas — that will look sandblasted after a few 1000 miles.....

I used to do a lot of NCRS stuff - but I’d DRIVE to them.... if I was really going after the big points — then I’d have the driver seat reupholstered.... and usually get the top re-stretched or replaced.... a little paint touch up work (I had multiple guns and can/did this work myself).... a thorough detailing if I wanted it to look pristine....

In other words — there is a COST associated with putting miles on them..... and being anal..... but you don’t care one iota about all that when you’re out there cruising the crap out of ‘em.

My old saying in Seattle —- “that’s what winters are for”.... the rehab for the next driving season!

To me — it’s like cleaning guns and buying lots of ammo.... it’s the price you pay for actually doing with them what they’re made for.

Ha! I live outside of Buffalo... I know all about winters.
I did most of the restoration on my car, including the paint. But now I want to have it done for me if I decide to go for it.

Here she is at another car show. Yeah, I made a bunch of friends and won a bunch of plaques, but after seeing your project, Charlie’s Riv. and other builds on this site, I’d love to drop in a DelS3 style LS into it along with modern A/C and enjoy it more.

One guy (Gene) has been o every single tour. Small block chevy ‘69 Camaro. Drives from California to the start of each tour Does the tour. And drives home. They gave him a bad ass tour jacket at the end of the last one. Think he said he’s done 33,000 miles just on these tours.

In other words. You don’t need an LS Motor. A/C is another thing altogether. It is September when we do these and depending on where we start you might not need it.

Good point, Thanks.
Well I don’t want to hi jack your great build thread with my stupid car. When I make up my mind I’ll start my own.

It's more fun to "Drive" them rather than just "Owning" them...…..Been on both sides…….. Driving is a lot more "Gooder"...….. LOL

Oh wait that's how it works !?!?!?! I thought it was normal to spend a lot of money only to have to do it over and over until it's right. :D

Well. This is particularly true if you’ve done business with Ron Sutton and got sauced in the process.

waynieZ 05-01-2019 01:32 PM

Sauced ? must be called that because it happened a lot like coming out of a hose ...You know like getting hosed????

GregWeld 05-13-2019 11:59 AM

Back to Customs and Hot Rods of Andice (CHRA) for freshening before Columbus and other GoodGuys Shows this summer....

Tough to drive a “show car” - which is why I don’t attend many shows.... I’d prefer to just drive and let the bugs squish where they squish —— but it should look the part if I’m going to put it out there.... and all the trucks that I’m up against for Early Truck of the Year are trailer queens....

A couple of the Pantera guys that have really really
nice cars (one was driven 30,000 miles one year) just
have them repainted on the front side from the fronts
of the doors and around to the other side.. they do this
like every other year

Glad to see you are really enjoying this truck as it
really came out nice

Rest In Peace... never met him, but loved to follow along. Had a passion for this hobby and these cars.

Roscoe03 07-13-2019 02:06 PM

May Greg rest in peace. I never met the man but I learned so much from him from this site.

David Pozzi 07-13-2019 05:43 PM

A tearful day with the passing of Greg Weld. But he would not want us to be sad. He lives on in our memories and we will be telling Greg Weld stories for many years to come. He did more for our hobby than most people realize. I hope his words here last forever so we can look back and enjoy them. We will miss you Greg!

On a brighter note, the pickup got a builders choice award, and best on RS chassis award at GG.:trophy-1302:

Man, I was looking forward to that day that we met, yet even though we never had, I felt like I knew him. He was a huge presence on this site. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear.
Enjoyed reading of Greg’s adventures. Did not know the man personally, never met him but it sounds like he lived his life to the fullest. Praying for the wife and family during this time.

Adrienne and the truck are on the main strip in between Griots Garage and Edelbrock today and will be in the Builders Choice area tomorrow. She has a family function today and won’t be around after about three but the truck will be there all day. If you’re at the show come by and say hi, check out the truck and share some stories.

They’ve been motoring along with a couple small issues but nothing that can’t be fixed. Besides Charlie they’re surrounded by a ton of able mechanics willing to fix whatever comes up.
Out seeing the USA in pops ride with a bunch of really great people, can’t think of anything better.
