Tony your right I can't wait!
Ron Thats the way I'm thinking of doing it, on Sat. Even if we loaded on Friday it would be locked in his shop with the alarms and big dogs it would be pretty safe.
I have a car cover my daughter bought me so I will cover it for the ride home plus Mike wants to plastic wrap with shipping wrap to keep it safe. I'm just figuring closing in the bottom of the trailer would keep anything from being kicked up from the road.

Wayne,

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT transport that car with a cover on it! On an open trailer the car cover will do far more damage than anything. The wind whipping will beat the car to death with the cover. Putting something on the deck to close it in from road debris is fine, but leave the cover off. I have witnessed the carnage personally. Even the rolled shrink wrap can come loose and whip. The only thing I would do in that regard is get a boat dealer to truly "shrink" wrap it. By the time you spend that kind of money, you could hire a company to haul it in an enclosed insured trailer. JMO Good luck Buddy! Can't wait to see pics of it in the garage.

I would NOT cover the car while towing -- the loose cover will flap etc and beat the snot out of it.

Wayne,

Just read the whole thread. You're VERY patient! Looks great though.

I was in Charlotte for a couple of days and called Mike's place to see if I could stop in. Didn't mention your car. But had to leave a message, no one to answer the phones. A girl called back and said call back in two months, he's too busy to talk to anyone or take on any work. Maybe he's learned a lesson.

I<m with them on the ''No cover'' The cover to rub against the paint will go thru it so quickly with the wind moving it against it you will be in need of a repaint when you get home!!

DON'T DO IT!! (just enjoy the tumbs up all the way home..... )

One question if i may, are you going to drive that car when done or if its a show car to rest on a turn table? I mean, protection of the undercarriage form the road? It will get there soon, is it maybe just cause you want to keep it super sano just for the time your putting it together? Just curious...

Did you ever tought about putting a bed lining kinda protection instead? You know you can get them tinted the colour of your car right? It would be as nice as painted but would not chip from road time. Now's the time to do it on a rotisserie at home! The grain is so small with some of them products it looks VERY very nice..... you would get your cake and be able to take a bite of it at the same time... Just sayin. (plus painted undercarriage is for street rods wussies lol!! j/k i'm just jealous!)

Cant wait to see it, you deserve it! You are one patient dude!

Lead.

Thanks eveyone. I just wanted to protect it from the 900 mile ride home.
Lead; I am going to drive it I just don't want to kick up a piece of a tire or something big and wreck it before it gets home.

The car isn't painted though, its just in primer correct?

waynieZ 08-12-2011 08:40 PM

96z28ss Yes only primer on the sheet metal but under the car is finished in Sikens satin black.
