Hell yeah Todd!!
Nice job. Have you ever weighed your car? |
Todd good to see you getting some race miles on the car time look great bud I'm sure they are only gonna get better:cheers:
|
Thanks guys...I'm really surprised since I felt like I left some on the table on the road course and definitely the autocross. My first run was my fastest on teh autocross and I NEVER run my best until 4-5 runs in so I felt like I really blew that portion. The car was just to loose. I made an adjustment after the road course and it slowed me down.
The car is probably a hoss. I haven't weighed it but it has a sub box in the trunk. I'm guessing 3300-3400. There will be some cool pictures coming your way. I should have one run of the Baer speed stop challenge on my go pro. Can't believe I forgot to charge it after last event. |
Imagine when you get some serious seat time!
The weekly drive out to Spring Mountain.... oh hell just buy a condo there so we can all come visit. Congrats. |
WOW keep it up man!!! Way to go. Who said big block cars can't run??:willy:
|
The Camaro looked GREAT at the event.. very nicely done and one of my favorites!
Going to be going out to Vegas to do a full shoot.. good to see you again and nice work on the car! |
That is KICKASS news Todd! :hail: All the hard work with the engine rebuild and sorting the car is Paying off with Payback

i searched through the 1400+ posts, but didnt come up with how you brushed everything. any tips i missed, or a post # to look at? Tim |
Todd, Congrats on the weekend. Payback sounds freakin awesome! Not to sound like a broken record, but your hard work has paid off, and you have alot to be proud of. I wish I had an ounce of your talent. Nice work man.
|
Dude,
Remember this : http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/sho...ight=Forgeline : post # 19 what a difference a year makes. |
Thanks Guys and that's quite a compliment Steve. I'm ready when you are. Chris, it was a pleasure man. This ain't no show car. :unibrow: This weekend definitely took that new smell off the paint.
I'm bummed that I didn't get any video of my road course runs. That would've been the most exciting stuff. I did manage to get one Baer stop challenge video from the morning. I also have one from Kelli's phone. If anyone has video of my car on the road course or Baer stop challenge, feel free to post it. I didn't have a cigarette lighter so I almost didn't get timed. Todd at Baer brakes really hooked us up with some stereo wire and some aligator clips after a run to Radioshack. Just to give you guys an idea of the performance it took to post the fastest time(13.94) I did a little research. I hit approx 103mph so I compared supercar 0-100-0 times. My time was faster than Lamborghinis, 911 Turbos, some Ferraris, you get the drift. I'm guesstimating approx 8-9 seconds to 100mph and 5-6 seconds to stop.I still think I can go faster with some shock adjustments and more experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCdRWR4Us3I http://www.germancarforum.com/test-d...0-0-times.html Here are the videos: |

Todd, you got a beast on your hands!!! (Is she for sale?!?!) J/K!!! Love this car. Starts fast, goes fast, handles fast and stops fast!!! lolllllllll...... Looks like you and PAYBACK had a great day. Lots of nice cars there as well I see.
CONGRATS!!!    |
Great video, really nice pics and one hell of a bad a$$ ride :hail: I'm thinking if you wear that had when you race it should be good for a few seconds of the clock
|
|
From what I saw you looked really fast out there, and sounded even faster. I never heard the old engine but the new one is just plain nasty. Wish I got to see more of your group run, but unfortunately I was stuck with the slow guys like Rupp and Hunkins (until he got kicked out  )

Nice pics & vids Todd. Your car looks and sounds awesome
|
Payback has evolved into a true track car......no more blue tape.
Diggin' the pink hat Todd. :D |
I take it the brake pads worked pretty good
with numbers that you posted.
Congrats on the success! Your car really performed well...makes all that work almost worth it. LOL Your car sounded great on the video Where can I get a hat like that? |
While I'd like to claim I'm manly enough to wear around a pink hat, everybody that did a 360 during the event got their turn. It was fun. Those front pads didn't make a peep after the driving school on Friday. They must not have been bedded in properly. They are now. :D :D I put about 125 miles of pure racing on the car this weekend. The car stopped really well from cold to hot. As soon as I get rid of that pesky knockback issue I'm in great shape. It clearly wasn't an issue on the Baer stop challenge since I was going straight. On the road course I lifted that much earlier for the customary pump and let's not even talk about the autocross. I did have the ear of one of the head guys at Wilwood however. He watched me post the fastest time in the Baer stop challenge and he did say they are working on a floating caliper/or rotor just for my application.(Let me say it's not just a Wilwood problem, it's caused by axle/bearing flex) He mentioned Sema but I don't know which year. :unibrow: That's really all that's left to make a huge difference in performance. I think the car is still leaning to much but any changes in spring rate will effect the ride. Doubt I'll change it. Here are two videos I stumbled on. This was the last turn. As you can see, I lifted early on all the turns with a barrier. I simply didn't want to chance of wrecking my car. I love it when the flag man is ready to bail on the second video. haha

Nice video's Todd, the car sounds great. Now you got plenty of power for those long straightaways.
|
It sure does sound great Todd. KILLER CAR!
In the 2nd video, I can see your ass end kick out a bit after taking the bend. Was that from "goosing" the gas a little or a traction issue? Again, killer car man. CONGRATS! |
It was just a matter of using the whole track and giving it a little gas. So a combination.:D
|
Todd, that was Tony and I there in the second video. I already called him today to see when we can get our hands on the video he took. Will let you know as soon as I do!
Doug |
Nice vids again Todd, hey what is your opinion on those tires for the street vs the track?
|
I'm really not sure what to think. I noticed a performance gain when I swapped wheels. However, I went from a stagger of 345/255 to 335/275. Also the wheels are lighter and I had Pilot Sports vs. PS2's. I'd say the performance gains are minimal until you get some heat in them. That would be road course or a smokey burnout before a drag race. Bill Howell said he felt the BFG KDW's actually hold better under braking in his car. I've been very happy with them across the board. I put a beating on them the last two weekends. I'll more than likely swap them for a set of BFG KDW's before my next Optima Challenge qualifier. Most of the guys are saying good things. They seem to be stickier than the 300 treadwear rating. They have a contingency program and I'd like to give myself a chance to race into the challenge. I'll keep running these until that next optima qualifier event or they are done. Once I've run both, I'll be sure to let you know my thoughts.

I noticed the lean in your car on the videos
since you say the rear is a little loose with the new rear bar, you could go up in size on the front bar. splined bars are cheap...$100 or so. That would correct your loose condition and take care of the lean without killing your ride with a stiffer spring.
Spoke with a Maier and he stated that axle and bearing flex under heavy loads do cause the knockback along with changing the geomerty of the rear. He runs a full floater to take care of that problem. You know you are getting close to having it set on kill when you bitch about the smallest of things. LOL |
