I snapped this at the Hearst Castle.... Does anyone else but me think this is kinky? Why is she naked? What's the corn cob for? What is the goat for? WTF who would put this in their front yard?!?!?!

Thats a beautiful view. |

Greg...that is a stunning car. The Nomad holds a special place in my heart and is the car that started it all for me. My Aunt had two of them and she is the one who got me really into cars.
Thank You for posting the pictures. :D Quote:

I had one in high school... a '55. 265 with a 3 speed on the column... clear plastic seat covers. That car was MINT and low milage and I think I paid $1200 for it. |

The guest house is really cool. :D Other than it the rest of the house is like being in the haunted mansion. On a clear day the view is pretty epic. |
I heard the marble sculptures are Greek and most are VERY old. All the artwork was collected during W.R. Hearst's travels in Europe. When he died there was a large warehouse in New York full of Furniture & art.

David,
I should have called you and Mary but we were running out of daylight/time. As you know - it took way longer than planned/allowed for to hammer Highway 1 with "the rigs"... and we spent longer at Paul and Kyle's than we should have. I wanted to go to the Firestone for some BBQ and we didn't even make that! |
I want to see more castle pics. I remember that place as being pretty cool. Especially the indoor pool.

Personally I liked the big outdoor pool! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/742c2aad.jpg The indoor version was just huge! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/DSC_1603.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/DSC_1604.jpg The bottom shot thru the water.... I'm surprised it turned out! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/DSC_1606.jpg I liked the grounds around the main house better than the main house --- I like gardening so this stuff interests me. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/c727d1a7.jpg |
The best part though -- was driving these on that road behind us in this pic!

Sounds like a great road trip Greg.
That mansion, castle or whatever you want to call it, is unreal! I have relatives in San Jose, when I get out there next I want to see that thing in person. |

You show me naked sculpture and farm animals - and no shop pics ???? That guys does REAL artwork and all we get is his head peeking out over the top of the Nomad.... Now I'm really disturbed Greg ! Love the pics of the drive and the Hurst castle. You'd have to sell a lot of shifters to pay for those pools... Jim |

Jim -- I thought of the very same thing after reviewing my pics! I was like WTF! No shop photos! But... the couple things going on there were top secret skunkworks type stuff. I will tell you this -- after actually seeing one of their tri-five frames -- I was really impressed! The actual rails are HUGE! No wonder they do so well at the races/autocrosses! There can't be ANY flex in the car whatsoever! Love the HURST Castle! Someone needs to get some Hurst stickers and put them on the signs leading up there (I would never actually condone actions like that but it would be funny as all get out!). |

His stuff is on my hero wall - I was stunned by the 928 porsche phaeton chassis he did back in the day - and the C2 chassis is beautiful work. http://www.automedia.com/Ride_of_the...ht20100401fp/2  Jim |
I found the ORIGINAL HURST shifter as used in Chariots during the Roman days....

Greg, you coming to Columbus this year? I promise only one day of rain.:D

No.... maybe next year. Somehow going there just isn't on my bucket list... |

Sorry - missed this post/question.... The windshield on my buddies Great 8 car is a Volkswagen windshield (I forget which model but not the bug) stuck in there up side down and it's down in the cowl 9".... |

BTW --- In talking to Jeff Kugel at L A Roadsters show.... I finally figured out that STEVE'S AUTO RESTORATION put the vent on the GEAR SIDE (ring gear) of the housing which - of course - flips the grease all over the f'n place.... and the VENT should have been installed on the back side of the housing, which would be the flat side of the ring gear... Once again - SAR can build a show car -- but nothing you'd ever be able to actually DRIVE.... This winter I'll pull the housing and put a proper vent in. |
Unbelievable!

That shop should call itself "The Little Shop of Horrors"!:woot: |
Looks good Greg! I try to drive that stretch of HWY 1 from SLO to Monterey once a year. Soo much fun, but rough in some places due to constant construction.
I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda Hearst at a party one time, but that's kind of a long story. :) -Dave |

Driving that road is just way too much fun... I absolutely love it! |
A buddy called today and said -- "how 'bout we take the '32 up to visit Timmy Diver" (Divers Street Rods)... DONE!

You know what else Scott.... It stays green like this all summer too! Sadly -- then the rains come. But that's when I head for SEMA - GNRS - RTTC - Thunderhill! |
Nice picture Greg. I'm glad your finnally getting to put some fun miles on it.

Thanks Wayne! Your time is coming! Keep on plugging away. While I didn't build this one - I've built plenty of 'em and the only way they get done or improved - is to just keep after it. It's taken a lot of effort to get this one to the "enjoyment stage". I've waited for the little elves to come out and finish 'em up - but the little guys must always be busy helping someone else... |
Hey Greg! WTF..... you go to Divers and no pics? :willy: ........ Whats that hell is that all about? :_paranoid
:D |

My apologies.... it will never happen again. I go there because they're friends - and we just BS and break some bread (pizza) and enjoy their lunch hour... kick tires on the builds and split. I forget to take pics of the builds. They're restoring a Pontiac lightweight - "a swiss cheese car" - we spent so much time debating some items on the car - I just forgot pics. I'm the Dumbest guy in the entire UNIVERSE!:faint: |

I've just read the whole thread or "journey". Nothing I can really say, other than that's an awesome 32 you "now" have mate! Absolutely love it.
Funny thing my wife I spent 4 weeks in the US last year for SEMA ( for me ), and checked Hurst castle on the way from SF to LV and have to agree with you on the funky lady with the corn thing.. weird, but funny. |
Yesterday was as the pic I posted.....
Today -- we're back to normal! The "pan" to the gutter in the corner was because the water was running UP HILL it was coming out of there so hard.... |
