Better pictures of the amp rack tucked under the package tray. (06-01-20)

I was asked to share a couple pictures of the amp rack and how it was mounted. I glued the weld studs under the package tray and hung the amp neatly from the package tray. It is also nestled really close to the harness bar that is welding into the cars structure under the package tray. If you look back at the pictures you can see that Dennis welded bungs in so I could mount shoulder restraints for the rear seat passengers.

Front Brake Line Routing (06-06-20 )

Working on a better location for the brake line transition from hard line to flex lines. Which means I needed to bring the front wheels home so I can run the suspension through it's full travel and make sure the lines are safely and securely mounted.

It's nice to see the Billet Specialties Wheel back on the car. At some point I need to find replacement tires for the car as these tires have

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...37faa50-me.jpg

First up is to find a good location for the hard line tab. In order to remove the clip off i needed to secure the line in my Grandfathers Vice. I have to thank my buddy Ben for building the cart and the vice mount so I can move it around in my garage.

Bag & Tag everything is my moto and make sure you take pictures of the bag so you can easily go back to your dated pictures and figure everything out.

As you can see this location is my 2nd attempt as the first one was a complete fail.

Yes I have issues and you should have seen me hanging over the car and holding on to the tire rack to get this picture. I wanted to make sure the brackets were symmetrical and taking the picture allowed me to look at it better.

BTW the inner fenders were removed and test fitted to make sure this location works.

Marty,

You are making excellent progress.

We should talk about doing the first engine start before you get the front sheetmetal on the car. If there are any issues, it will be a lot easier to get to things should we need to address something. Also, love your little garage helper :-)

I agree 100 %.

Jason from Showtime will be at my house in a couple weeks running the fuel lines, brake lines, coolant overflow lines and some other cool stuff so the fender are definitely staying off the car. However the Inner fenders will be on and off while he is working on the car.

Wilson Muscle Car Billet Battery Tray ( 06-09-20 )

Since the goal is to keep everything as accessible as possible the battery is staying up front in the stock location. However that doesn't mean the battery tray has to be stock. Ron at Wilson Muscle Car & I designed the tray to work in the factory locations.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8257659-me.jpg

While I am here I am looking at option for the Vintage Air heater hoses. Should I go under or just route them above and gently lay them on the Anvil Carbon Inner Fenders.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...07b2ceb-me.jpg

I also need to figure out a way to help support the tray as the foot rest under the battery tray doesn't offer much support as steel inner fenders would.

I'd go under the battery, Marty. It's not often that you have to deal with the heater hose so I don't think you need to worry about accessing them.

Battery Tray Support Concept ( 06-14-20 )

Moving back to the battery tray I need to figure out a good way to support the tray without over engineering it. The goal is
to come up with something simple that you wouldn't notice when you look under the car. It also has to be smooth to prevent
chaffing on the heater hoses.

Back from Ace Hardware with some supplies for my concept.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...118b261-me.jpg

Support Sleeve.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...26288d8-me.jpg

I need to thread a 3/8" stainless steel threaded rod into the bottom of the battery tray and anchor it to the core support bracket. You need
to drill the proper size hole for the 3/8" tap. If you don't have this Tap Cheat sheet it is worth saving this as I borrowed it from someone on one
of the BB forums years ago and have referenced it many times.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...994c011-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0b90b18-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cddc972-me.png

Drilling a hole in your Carbon Inner Fender is kinda nerve racking.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8dd76a7-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9d8cd7a-me.jpg

Concept # 1 -- Create a bracket the bolts to the existing core support bracket.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...433a98c-me.jpg

Concept # 2 -- However if I bend rod just a little bit to get it to reach
the core support bracket I can bolt it directly to it.

Vintage Air Fittings ( 06-20-20 )

Once again I am working on the Vintage Air lines and I need some new fittings. I headed over to Midwest Hots to pick up the new
fittings. I am very happy they made improvements as these are much better.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d42a9dd-me.jpg

Prior to painting the firewall I added one new hole for the power wires for the Holley Terminator system. They made it clear in their instructions
that these wires need to be separated from all other wires in the car. So I moved them over to the passenger side of the Kick Panel.

ps Remember where these wire come out.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3b2e6f4-me.jpg

When I went to install the new Vintage Air fittings into the existing holes the new fittings hit the Anvil Inner fender. I starred at it for at
least 20 minutes and decided to put the old fittings back as the new ones didn't work. Hours later after lunch I took a second look and I
move the Vintage Air fittings over one hole. I as was shocked it actually fit like I had planned it. Talk about dumb luck.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f59eb61-me.jpg

I sourced "machined washer" from Grainger and installed them on the back side to act as washers.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...82f2857-me.jpg

I decided to clean out all of the metal shavings that where inside the kick panel. So I got out my trusty magnet and started fishing for
metal shavings and I actually enjoyed this task.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...05ed449-me.jpg

Test fitting the new lines and I am very happy how they look coming off the firewall.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c946faa-me.jpg

I am going to be moving this switch to location where I can service it if needed.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2fe2ed6-me.jpg

I am not liking how the AC lines look under the battery tray so I am going to try to figure out a new routing.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...51e9fff-me.jpg

I don't like this either so I will be adding a line clamp to keep this line safe from harm as there is a bolt poking through the core support
directly into this line.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...48ad637-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d392d86-me.jpg

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d159477-me.jpg

Flipping the line put the "Switch" in a much better locations.

Working on the Vintage Air Lines (( 06-28-20 ))

So I am trying to figure out a way to run the lines so they look good and if need I can service them if needed. Remember I am not building a show car I am building car that I can drive and easily fix without having to take the 1/4 of the car apart to get to stuff.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ddc17aa-me.jpg

This might work and less chance of rub.

Choppy Choppy

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c716636-me.jpg

Inner Fenders Back on (( 07-12-20 ))

Once again the inner fenders are going back on.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9cdf97a-me.jpg

I am looking for area's that need to be trimmed for better clearance

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b11d9f2-me.jpg

Yet another while I am here moment. These two relays are for the Vintage air and before they were sitting on the top of
the unit. By mounting them I will be able to access them if there is ever an issue.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a9eec23-me.jpg

Back on the brakes lines (( 07-19-20 ))

Working on the line from the Drivers Side to the Passenger Side. I did purchase a factory line and modified it to work with my new layout. Which meant that I needed to straighten some of the bends & curves.

Splashing some paint on the cardboard so I see what it might look like.

This is not going to be fun but I plan to cut off the top of the Fan Shroud.

So this was one of the most beautiful nights and I am certain all of my neighbors windows were open and of course we were not exactly being quiet.

So this went on for at least an hour.

Afco Fan Shroud Redo (( 08-02-20 ))

So being honest this part has not been fun.

Time to remove all of the paint and create a new way to mount the fan shroud.

Marty,
Your level of detail surpasses mine and the Camaro is really nice. It took me the last few evenings to get through all the pages. Very informative and I took a few notes ! I need to learn to use more blue tape. Is there a preferred brand and best place to purchase?

Thank you for the kind words.

I like the 3M tape the best and even though I pass two Home Depot’s on my way home from work I still go to Ace Hardware hoping to get a chunky bar.

New Upper Mounts for the Radiator (( 08-17-20 ))

Time to make a better mouse trap.

I decided to go in a new direction with how the radiator was secured in place. Keeping with the "KISS Principle - Keep It Stupid Simple" I decide to make a flat bracket they will attach directly to the Core support with rubber Well Nuts.

And I might as well have Dennis "High Speed Welding" create a different way to mount the fan shroud.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0d9b34f-me.jpg

and might as well fix the inlets/outlets so they match the waterpump.

Only one day later it's ready for me to pick up.

Test Fitting the Radiator (( 08-26-20 ))

Now that the Afco "Direct Fit" Radiator is home and modified so it will work I might as well test fit it.

Cutting up some cheap radiator hose to make make sure I order the correct size hoses.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a9a373b-me.jpg

Next up...drill holes in the Core Support.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cda4fbd-me.jpg

Eventually I will drill the holes larger and install "Well Nuts"

Works perfect

Looking good, Marty. Are you going to use pipe and couplings for the coolant hoses? Those glass coolant pipes are cool!

Billet Optima Front Mount Battery Tray. (( 09-07-20 ))

Since I plan to drive this car and really don't want the hassle of having a battery in the trunk. Ron from Wilson Muscle Cars and I designed a factory fit Billet Tray for the battery. Actually it was my idea and Ron drew it up and I had TJ make a few of these.

http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b3bed5f-me.jpg

Since I am running the Anvil Carbon/Fiberglass Inner fenders. I can't use the inner fender to support the battery tray in the front. My solution is to drill a hole in my inner fender and run a support rod up from the Core Support bracket.

Good News...I found something to replace the Chunky Bars.
