Thanks, the first time I'd ever dun this, it came out nice [read: after I did some straightening, too close to the edge caused a little warpage] :hapdance: Now get your dies out and build something cool :gitrdun:

:popcorn2: waiting for pics!

Mounted the boxes!

Well, I used my ACE Hardware to find some alternatives to Rivnuts ...seeing as how I didn't have the blind nut tool or nuts and not really likely the bulkiness of the nut on the backside I went with this ....

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2708/iJPY7E.jpg
Of course I bonded these into the metal ..
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1167/ub9Txi.jpg
These gave the perfect standoff for the mounts on the computer
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2197/8dGERE.jpg
Bonded in 1/4 - 20
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6351/Gha8xa.jpg
KISS ....didn't think all that GM mounting stuff was necessary so I took the box apart and drilled a hole and mounted the box to the plate.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9582/FyRRPe.jpg
Came out just like a thought it would!

Just need to drill through the inner wheel well and mount a rubber bushed nut to the Al, that's for another day, thanks for looking ...

Thanks Joe, one thing at a time right? Been trying to warm up the garage a bit to work, waiting on some 20 ga TXL wire for my harness I have to make to integrate my IQ3 Street dash to the GM harness.
Since I mounted the relay box where I did I have to extend the IQ3 harness about 4 feet.
Waiting on my through bulkhead connector for power and working on a mount for my AAW fuse box for the dash area -- never ends!!!

I did drill a hole in the tunnel area for a pass-through grommet and finished wiring my Entropy fan controller, just need to wire it up the GM harness, yeah!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5483/IHoLAX.jpg
Had to remove about 18 inches from the harness to make it neat and tidy!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/633/uvExdp.jpg
This looks good ... didn't care for the BIG HOLE in the dash look ...the GM harness stuff will come through the side tulip panel!

Working on the wiring harness for the incorporation of the IQ3 dash into the GM harness and user indications (turn signals, hi beams, whether I'm being followed, ect,) and planning the routing of said stuff to look right ...

Thanks for looking ...

Question!!

Forgot to ask .... any easy methods of getting this spring onto the hood hinge? Remember I'm the only on here ... lol:lmao:

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/1204/YOSFUg.jpg
Had to replace the OEM hinges with these Heartbeat City repros ... pretty close to originals!

Suggestions always welcome ...

Gmachine1911 02-05-2020 06:38 PM

Grab the end towards the front with vice grips, hook the back side and pull it to the front and hook it on the hinge.

Thanks Jim, I thought about the vice grip idea but yours is a great idea and safer ... now I have to go buy a fan belt, lol!

Thanks again ...

Here is another alternative if you need a stud. I am mounting these under the dash so I can hang my harness.

Dang it's been cold here ... but managed to get some of this and some of that done. In no particular order ... installed my + battery cable pass through,
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5526/aarkNC.jpg
worked on my VA wiring harness, finished wiring the main power to the Entropy fan controller, dressed up the Dapper Lighting LED harness
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3856/mFnzIV.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/8149/FEPUkA.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6128/6opRL0.jpg
, tore down the radiator fan assy. for powder coating,
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4629/thv842.jpg
installed my OEM door handles and measured the lock cylinder [AMD skins] for filing,
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4105/3RDKPS.jpg
and oh yeah, installed the repro hood hinges .... that's it for now!

Thanks for looking ...

Thanks, buddy, I'm trying my best!

Been some time since I updated this thread ... been doing this and that when the temperature cooperates, which has been difficult this winter. My hand surgery has been pushed out til ... who knows when, so I just keep on keeping on and do what I can with what I can.

The pandemic has Aurora going crazy, not to worry though, got food and TP so get to work on the car when I can get the temps up ... supposed to get more snow Friday, grrr ...

So where were we, oh yeah, I ordered a Wolf Fab 4.5" shrinking disc to get the fender patch back to original contours. It seems no matter how careful you welding are there is still going to be some distortion and this shrinking disc is the cat's pajamas.

Had a crown in the fender patch as seen below

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1224/BzXk9m.jpg

with about ten passes with the disc the fender is mo better ....

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3153/ioMpba.jpg

It does take some time to shrink the metal but wow what a difference

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4417/ZZaa3b.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1533/qg9lPY.jpg

Since I was doing some body filler I figured I might as well do some other low spots that needed attention, man this body work is hard work and messy but anyway this is what I get done so far ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/7248/yY6NLf.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1668/BHj1L0.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4159/Gr3RBb.jpg

Oh yeah, I pushed the car to access the passenger side and dented the quarter panel on the card table, so I had to fix that with a hammer and dolly and some filler ... the card table is NOT in the garage any more!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3481/PJIhsR.jpg

I did get a headlamp bucket recondition kit but the plastic inserts for the horizontal and vertical adjustment broke .... so I'll work on the front end and get the electrical all sorted out this week I hope.

Thanks for looking and keep being socially responsible ....

The 4.5 was just right for the lower fender. I never used one so I watched a lot of videos and knew not to rush the heat and cool cycle for best results. I didn't use air or water to cool just time and the results were great.

Update 3/29

Been in the house for a week and when the temps are good ... it's Camaro time!!

The goal was to get the front end wiring verified with installed equipment and power, well that was the goal ... seems my AAW headlight switch is defective. I cannot get the switch shaft to lock in the headlight switch ...grrrr.

So working on the Dapper lighting LED 7", the lights were great it's the mounting hardware that went south, seems the plastic inserts for the adjustments were brittle and broke on me, ordered more Friday ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/3548/N7uw9c.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1701/mSyCdb.jpg

Anywho, I worked on the grille assembly today to only find the powder coater smashed the upper grille assembly mounting flanges closed. So I straightened it mostly to get her installed but she'll need more tweaking ... the simple stuff that kicks your arse!!!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4669/e9JGCh.jpg

So glad I bought my OEM grille assembly back in '98 (Ummm $79.95) and this is the first time she's been mounted (that sounds awkward) but things lined up pretty well ...

The beauty shots ....

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8413/evQqyE.jpg

Really liking the blacked-out look of the grille and headlights ... now if I can only get power to them :headspin: Thought I had the screws for the headlight bezels but I can't find them right now ...

Thanks for looking...

Gmachine1911 03-29-2020 07:29 PM

Looks great, I love the look of the dark headlights! You might double check me, but if I remember right from when I did my AAW kit, AAW made a big deal about installing their headlight switch, specifically with regard to the knob/shaft Assy. Not sure if that helps but might be worth an internet search to see about any special tricks. I don’t recall anything especially different when doing mine, but thought it was worth a mention. Your progress is amazing, keep up the good work!

Yeah it will tie in the front end great ... thanks!

Winner Winner chicken dinner ... thanks Shane for the tip, went to Youtube and found an AAW video concerning their [chinese] made switches and it worked ... APITA

It's good to hook up your battery and find out you wired the circuits correctly, no fuses blew and lights came on ... yeah. So I put the taillights in to make sure all was ok and BAM they worked also, hell yeah.

The headlights are not adjusted of course but WOW the Dapper Lighting LED 7's are bright. couldn't be happier, well I could if I had an LS3 525 hp installed but that's another day, right?

It's good to get some quality time with the car ... as far as the roll bar question see attached picture, the top bar is not under the cross brace cuz the angle I installed the bar. But, to answer your question the top bar is 1.75" from the center roof brace to the top of the bar and closer to 1.5" out to the down/ trunk bar.

filing the locks?

"installed my OEM door handles and measured the lock cylinder [AMD skins] for filing,"

yo mean you had to file the holes to get the lock cylinder to fit correctly?

Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or for real :action-smiley-027: Yes the slots for the lock cylinder [AMD skins] were not the same as the lock, and this can come back to kick you hard if you didn't test fit the lock.

Update 7/12

Well here's the status of the apparatus .... been on the injured reserve list for several months with a pinched nerve in my back, osteoarthritis in the left wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome, and right shoulder rotator cup injury. Yikes ... COVID pushed any operations and rehab out months but I did get the carpal tunnel release surgery (big ol honking slice in my palm) in May and injections at L4/L5 and L5/S1 in June.

The left hand is better after 8 weeks but not back to 100%. So to work on my mental health I have been working on the Camaro doing bodywork on the driver's fender, header, and valance panel. Laid down two coats of SPI epoxy inside and out, and fixed the low areas with some filler. Now to spray some primer surfacer and get the panels sanded down to 400. Then spray some Raptor on the inside of all these panels, that's all

I'll post pictures as soon as ImageShack lets me upload pictures ...

Thanks Wayne, I think my warranty ran out and everything is breaking now!!!

Not much to show but a whole lot of work to get here .... prime, sand, and repeat multiple times! Filled the low spots and re-primed with SPI epoxy primer then 2 coats of primer/surfacer ... if you really want to see how bad your body work is sand the surfacer w 400 and it shows all the bad areas, ask me how I know,

And I used a SEM Urethane Flexible Foam between the inner and outer layers of the hood where I cut out for the hood vents ... the skin was moving too much when I was sanding. When the directions say 2 minutes cure time they ain't kidding, if you pause to reposition or think the foam cures at the nozzle .... went through 5 mixing tubes :bang:

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5834/4pSH9X.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/246/6GJoOW.jpg

Little more sanding before surfacer ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/3042/nCC7kV.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3979/jDlUTG.jpg

2 coats of Primer/Surfacer...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3064/HuiQAF.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9220/6jnYjw.jpg

Sanded the hood with 400 grit ... not too bad but needs some putty in a couple spots!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7443/8MHolD.jpg

Mandatory for straight body work ...
