I don't miss that stage of the build, but it's totally worth it.

Looking good.

Flat body work that’s the only place I’m ever allowed to try.

Wayne ... thought your body work had white caps when you were done :ohsnap:

waynieZ 07-24-2020 11:35 AM

That too, it looks different every time I check it lol

Great progress!! What hood vents are you planning to use?

Thanks ....

Update 8/17

This body work is hard work ... but I just pick a piece and get at it. So far the hood, driver fender and lower extension, header, lower valance, and wiper cowl is flat and sanded down with 400 grit ... just need to spray a coat of epoxy on the bare spots and get some Raptor liner on the underside of the fender and Speedtech inner wheel wells.

Pulled the passenger side fender and got it prepped for epoxy. This fender has some rough spots that will require some hammer and dolly work and I'll need to close up the OEM antenna hole ... wish me luck, :confused18:

Here's some car porn ....

Ths staging area, lol!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4043/rq6TxM.jpg
This lower patch I bonded in and it's pretty close ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7577/YnVOvk.jpg
Sure is nice to work with clean metal ...

I'd get more done if it wasn't so dang hot during the day ... spraying epoxy after dark when it finally cools down.

Thanks for looking ...

EVIL SS 08-17-2020 05:47 PM

Good luck, looks great so far!

Mo Better now!

Thanks guys ... I was working with the shrinking disc and some hammer and dolly work to get this fender straight. Seems it had some previous work done ... with a 2X4 :shakehead:

Instead of spraying epoxy and sanding it all off, I figured I'd take a page from an Eastwood video and use the Sharpie as a guide coat which worked out really well. After three rounds of disc work and sanding it is mo better, the camera angle doesn't do it justice ... take a look!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/820/rs6Lz1.jpg
Did some touch up work on the back side too ...

Update 8/21

Wow, think I'll stick a fork in it ... I would guess I have WAYTOO many hours into these fenders but I know they are dun right:D

I am getting the hang of the shrinking disc and it's kinda of like therapy ... and it works great, don't start hammering get the disc out and work the metal back to shape!!!!

The only low spots are where the metal is doubled so I'm ok with that, take a look ....

Not too bad for 53 year old fender, going to get some epoxy on the fender and the bare spots on the other parts this weekend, it's going to be hot ...

Thanks for looking ....

Goosesdad 08-22-2020 05:24 AM

Well done

Update 9/6

Spraying more epoxy sanding, ....repeat process over and over ... been working to get the fenders finished sanded to 400 grit and I've finished the drivers side fender and got the passenger side in epoxy and sanded to 180 grit ... keep working with putty and sanding to 400 grit.

jmac 09-07-2020 08:57 AM

You should be proud, doing it all yourself.

Looking real good!

slimjim 09-07-2020 11:32 AM

nothing feels better than running your hand over a p400 finished panel for the last time, other than maybe the finished product.

Sonar Chief 10-09-2020 06:25 PM

Update 10/9

OCD is a beeotch!!!! She does look good in SPI White Epoxy maybe I'll just clear coat and call it patina, lol  One more round of epoxy and primer surfacer on the driver's fender and extension and I'll stick a fork in it! Working on passenger side fender, underside of the hood and body worked the inner fender wells and radiator support.

You'd think I was building a Riddler car!!! Thanks for looking ...

Thanks, buddy and boy did the weather turn ... from 70's to 30!

Well make a goal and :gitrdun: Got the radiator mount painted a single-stage black along with the Speed Tech inner wheel wells and then mounted driver's side to see what interference with the clutch master cylinder ... :superhack: needs a hole to clear master and AN3 fitting.

Looking like a car again ...

While the weather was good I got some putty on the fender and sprayed some SPI epoxy on the driver's door and passenger fender and left in the garage with a heater on overnight to cure the paint ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9024/2vgY9A.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/7137/2QVwda.jpg
Still needs a layer or two of primer/ surfacer and sand down w 400 grit!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/89/NH7iSW.jpg

Hopefully I'll get the door hung and semi straight before long and then get the rest of the front end sheet metal installed and aligned.

Thanks for looking ...

Are you only suppose to use 45 degree double flare ??or an made out stainless??

The fittings coming out of the master and the proportioning valve are double flair and then the other end heading each corner is made up for AN fittings.

I'm still in the game!!!

Still here working on my girl ... 2020 is hindsight, mental illness is real and I'm working on getting better every day ... it's a journey, not a destination!

So, I started a new job that I get to work on hot rods and get paid for my time ... should have seen this 20 years ago. My happy place is in a garage working on cars, call it simple as it is my place to be me and not impress anyone and look forward to getting back to work the next day!

So, first job is re-wiring a 70 Cuda Pink Panther for Holley EFI and AC w dual fans, then working on a 64 Malibu LS7 transplant gone wrong to de-burring a 65 401 nailhead for a Riddler Car ... heaven, maybe so?

I have been working on my Camaro, still getting the passenger side fender straight ... driver's side is looking good!!

My time in the garage is my therapy and glad to be still in the game ...

Thanks for looking ....

Let's see how she fits ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/1355/oiZJ9C.jpg
Not worth a ****e, almost 3/8 " high in the center and low at the corners!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/4588/wW4ieX.jpg
Low on both sides ... I can push down in the center and it'll come up some

Any suggestions or has this been seen before??? I'll call Anvil this week and ask what to do.... that really sucks!!!

Thanks for looking ...

dhutton 07-10-2021 03:07 PM

I repaired a couple of these by making kerf cuts in the underside bracing, clamping it in the correct shape and then bonding the cuts with panel adhesive. Not pretty but the only fix I could come up with.

As I've said before...that's the only drawback to carbon fiber I hate, that it's far too expensive to often not fit. Very beautiful though.

Yeah I know, I thought I'd be ahead of the game w an Anvil trunk, guess this thing is going back to them and I'll beat on the AMD one to get er to fit worth a shote!!!

Can you give some info on what black paint you are using for under the hood and engine compartment?

Update 7/30

Hey it's been sometime now ...but I set a goal and got my Raptor bed liner sprayed today cuz it's supposed to rain all weekend. I sprayed my Speed Tech inner wheel wells, the backside of the fenders and dropdowns, as well as my lower valence and header panel ... one coat and it looks great.

And, my Anvil trunk lid came in to replace the glossy one that fit like crap ....

I also received my trunk repair panel so I can cut out a fuel access hole and use the repair to fabricate a lid which will be nutsert with 10-32s. I'll undercoat and paint to match the bottom gray color and should alleviate the need to drop a fuel tank.

Here's some porn for y'all:

that was a lot of tape to cover all the surfaces from over spray ... thought I skinned a kangaroo!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8776/k74jwa.jpg
This lid fits a little better .... the jury is out whether I send it back or mess with it to fit better!!!:confused59:

I also have my brake lines almost done, ordered -3 an hoses from Summit to mock up the lines and set the brackets on the frame ...
Thanks for looking ....

Build-It-Break-it 07-30-2021 10:39 PM

What did you end up doing to get your carbon trunk to fit better? I had to cut my carbon hood on the inner structure to get it to lay flat then repair it.

I didn't do anything, that is a replacement trunk in satin which I ordered instead of the glossy they sent me. Just goes to show the variations in manufacturing ... either made on Monday or a Friday :headscratch:
