OK not really an update but more of a question.

So I have my DSE-supplied (Moser built) quadralink rearend mocked up in the car and am a bit concerned about what I (at first) thought was an excessive amount of backlash in the gearset but what I now believe is "slop" between the detroit trutrac's female splines and the axle's splines. The amount of rotational slop is about the same on both sides. Is this normal? I'm leaning towards "no", but maybe someone here has some good input.

I shot a short vid of it:

Hey Rob - Rookie engineering here, but I thought spec was only 5 to 10 thousandths. There were some complaints on Nasty 28 about the Moser rear end axle play. I have the same set up, so I'll be looking for the experts to respond...

I have the same set up too... not road tested yet though

I have a detroit true trac

I have about the same amount of play back and forth. Seems like a lot, but i have 4500 miles on my car and no issues. Some of it is the lash on the gears and the other is in the tru trac.

Thanks guys for your inputs. It does seem like a lot.

With the wheels/tires mounted the slop/play (of course) becomes much more magnified/noticeable.

Payton (since you have miles on your setup) did you notice any undue noise as soon as power is applied to the rear (as when moving away from a stop)?

It seems like my setup will definitely make a "klunk!" as soon as the pinion starts rotating....That just really bothers me.

Rear end slop

Mine has the same amount of play/slop. My brother in law built my rear and he has been building for about 18 years. I think you are good.

Vince@Meanstreets 07-19-2011 09:58 PM

the slop is normal, great project

No noise

and you do not feel it driving. You will like the tru trac as it is silky smooth.

My Moser Dana 60 does the same thing....
