And the new heart transplant begins............$250.00 302 V8 we will be swapping in place of her 200 I6. Once we get it mocked up into the car, we can start buying a new intake, valve covers and other goodies to make it run and look better.
Block numbers indicate it is around a 1974 engine. I still need to look up the head identification to verify what year and what vehicle it came out of.
Also a good thing we put this on the engine stand and put it in the garage because sunday morning we had 2 inches of snow.

The wheels came in and are exactly as pictured a couple posts back. They look awesome and I cant wait to get them on the car.

As for the front brakes I am going with the Ultrastang kit UNLESS someone knows a cheaper complete kit like this. http://www.ultrastang.com/Page.asp?PageID=3
I talked to Steve last night (great guy) with the brake booster and everything in the pics it is $724.00 shipped to my house. Thats about the best deal out there that I can find.

I am also just going to put a used 2 barrel carb on the 302 to get everything mocked up and running.

Steve suggested that I just get an 8" rear for her car instead of messing with trying the 5 lug conversion

Just bought all this for her Mustang.
Full front disk 5 lug conversion including brake booster which is not in the picture.

Pulled her old straight 6 200 engine out over the weekend to make room for the 302 V8. Next I will mock up the 302 with the transmission. Then I can lower the front and get the front disk brakes, spindles, calipers, and front 17" wheels bolted up. I also plan to replace and repair the front frame pieces while I am mocking everything up.

I realize its been a while since I updated. Had a couple year delay due to slipping a disk in my back, then I had surgery for vertigo issues, and then I got married! Soooo now we are back getting motivated on the Fastback again.

I still have the 302 and just bought a C4 tranny, torque convertor, and flywheel for it. So now we just need to get this engine and tranny combo mocked up into the car and at least get this car started again.

I also wanted to finally announce my plans for the Exhaust for this car. It will be from a Saleen S281.

Here is the Saleen S281 exhaust set I bought for our 67 Fastback Mustang. This exhaust system is not easy to find at all.

This is what the rear of a Saleen S281 looks like.

Here is the front 11" slotted disk brake conversion kit I purchased a couple years ago.

Good to see you posting again Adam,

I remember reading a lot of your illusion progress 5 years ago around when I bought my car. Really enjoyed reading about what you did. I totally dig that you dive right into projects with an I can do anything attitude. Good luck with the slipped disc. I can relate!

Now don't make us wait another two years!!

CAMAROBOY69 08-12-2011 08:58 AM

Thanks Chad.
We also need a 5 lug rear end for her Mustang. So if you know of anyone that has one, please let me know. I really dont want to use any spacer 4 lug to 5 lug conversion. I was thinking it would probably just be best to get a 5 lug rear end. If you have any other ideas like maybe just swapping out axle shafts or something let me know.

I will try to keep updating more often.

welcome back adam, sory to hear about your back issues...
as for the axles just order a set of narrowed Mosers when you mini tub the car.

CAMAROBOY69 08-13-2011 04:02 AM

Thanks Vince.
After this post yesterday, I decided to start looking for a rear end that has 5 lug instead of 4 lug. So for the heck of it at lunch time, I e-mailed the guy that I bought the C4 tranny from and asked if he knew anyone that had a 5 lug rear end. Come to find out that HE actually has one from his 68 Mustang. lol It has new drums and shoes and I will be picking it up after work today for only $175.00! Very excited! WOW sometimes things happen faster then I expect.

Now I need to decide on the tire size for the 17" wheels. The stance on the 67 Mustang will be very similar to the stance my 69 Camaro has. So after viewing some of the other members Mustangs on this site I think I might go with:

235 40 17 IN FRONT.
275 40 17 IN REAR.

I started checking Craigslist yesterday for some used tires for the mockup. I really just want to at least get this car started again and rolling to make sure the engine and tranny work.
