Lotsa times it's either high school kids in Eastern Europe or Asia, or worms. In other words many times sites are hacked by a self-proliferating program. Doesn't sound like what happened here, but it's interesting that some loser can write some code and then let it go into the world and it starts causing havok on its own without the hacker personally visiting each site....

Interesting, I lost my DSL modem yesterday, found out when I woke up. It was completely dead, the power supply was ok though. I may have been logged into Pro-touring.com when it happened. Is it possible that it could have been affected by the hack?

I would seriously doubt it, Unless they hosted some malacious code on the site that you allowed to run on your PC. If you had walked away it's very unlikely. One preventative step I would perform is to change any login that shares the username/password with PT.com. Although they can't get to your PC from there, they do have access to every bit of information hosted on the site.

It's common for people/groups to hack forums to get personal info. That info is then sold to spammers for a profit.

The name of the movie

was "genius" or "pure genius" That is going back to the 80's. Was not Laslow the genius that lived in the basement that won all the Clearing House prizes.

Hacking a car site is prettly lame.

If they can hack a website in a firewalled co-lo they can easily thwart whatever you have on your home computer. I wouldn't screw with them.

But If you take them into the woods and break there hands and arms they might not want to do any hacking again, or they could get hired by the goverment, :wow:
