Ned I am so sorry to hear about the drama and damage done to your car. Thank God you and your son are safe. I can only imagine what could have happened had a Semi hit that thing and sent it flying into your car. I hope you can get the wheel re-hooped or replaced without to much drama.

Where you lucky enough that the wheel that was destroyed was the one with a scratch on it? lol

You definately have a civil claim against the other guy. Unfortunately not a criminal complaint.

Check out www.weldcraftwheels.com for a repair

Wheel Repair Shop in Sac

Tough luck Ned, at least you're okay. There is a good wheel shop here in Sac that should be able to repair the wheel. You can contact BJ @ Precision Wheel (916) 641-7454. He's located @ Hwy 80 & El Camino.

Also, most wheel manufacturers carry the outer rim sections & can re-hoop the rim for a nominal fee, generally much less than the cost of a replacement wheel, only drawback is you'll be left 3-wheelin for a week or two....

Good luck, Jason

I dont care about a criminal compliant....he didnt do it on purpose.... I just want to have him pay for the replacement rim, not me.

I have a call into Bonspeed....nothing so far

On a good note, I called Grundy and they told me there is no "aftermath" for filing a claim....no change in premium etc and it wont effect my driving record or the insurance for my other daily driver cars. The claims adjuster is supposed to call me later today. So it sound promising that at least my insurance wont be effected.

Thanks for the referral on rim repair... I'll check them out.

I was in a hurry typing this morning

I forgot to say how sorry I was you car got torn up. I know had it been me I would be freaking out.

After reading your other post, it will be covered under your policy as a Comp loss and just like they stated will not go against you. Since he did not have insurance let you company handle it. I am sure they will have you sign subrogation papers so they can go after the party responsible. IF they collect either from his insurance or him personally, you will be refunded your deductible if you have one.

I am glad you did not have sheet metal damage or suspension work.

Damn, that's a bummer about the rim. Thank goodness you made the correct split-second decision to not swerve and hit a car next to you. That's excellent driving.

For the cop to tell you that you get a point on your license for filing an insurance claim is just unbelievable. There are millions of instances each day where a person is forced to run over something on a highway because they simply could not move to the left or right and could not see the object in time due to the car in front of them blocking the view of the object. It has nothing to do with following someone too closely. Just another example of why I try to avoid the highways at all costs when I'm in my own '69.

I hope Bonspeed is able to help you out in some way. Looking at the photo, I would be surprised if the center section isn't somehow bent slightly. I certainly hope it isn't and that they can extract it and weld it into a new hoop. Thank goodness the damage is only to your wheel.

Hey Ned, sorry to hear about that. You and I have the same luck when it comes to cars. Thank god it wasn't worse.

File a lawsuit against the CHP... for negligence. Afterall... it's their job to keep the highways safe for the motorists on it.

First of all... the driver WITHOUT insurance... IS... at fault. It is clearly stated as so in the California DMV laws. It's just like if you were drinking and somebody hit you... you would be the one at fault... even though the other guy may have broken a law or six when THEY hit you. He who brakes the law (in California) first... is negligent.

Lets just hope you have under-insured / un-insured coverage on your policy. There is no way that your insurance company would hit you for an accident that was to no fault of your own.

Gotta love California. The land of 'pass the buck of responsibility' to those who actually follow the law's.
