LOL.......its a snowball effect. Just ask yourself what the more expensive one will do for you that the lesser one wont. I have to do that all the time. For example, when I sit and think of very simple things I could do to make more power......as if 1100 hp isnt enough........

Ok, the snow ball has stopped..... for the compressor any way! :)

I scored a used Snap-On BRA-718v 10 minutes from my house! Best part was I was able to get it for less thatn the 2 Stage 15 CFM Ingersoll Rand unit at TSC. It puts out 23.9 CFM @175.

So what will the next snowball be?????

I forgot to mention the guy I bought the compressor from is a guy I used to do work for in the shop I worked at in town. He is a great guy and takes real good care his stuff.

Anyway, I have the garage re-arranged to fit the new toy and I actually had a chance to do a little work on my project tonight. I will post up some pics as soon as I get a chance. I did not get to use the new toy but I did get to use my Miller Diversion. Fun stuff! :)

Well.....

I promised pics so here is one of the new compressor. I have it all wired and plumbed up now. (Guess I need to take a couple more pics!).

I used it to do some rust repair (ie media blasting and grinding) on my daily driver and it worked SWEET!!!!! :)

More to come....

Ok so back to the project at hand...

I scored an A6 torque tube out of an '09 vette off eBay a while back. I asked the seller if he had they bell housing and he said he did have it but it was broken. I asked if he would send it along anyways and he said yes. Well he was correct it IS broken....

Luckily for me I have a Diversion at the house.

The prep:

The weld (more like the beginning):

I suppose I could pickup another bell housing but I have the time and it gives me a really good excuse to use the Diversion. :) I have to get some aluminum for the patches I need to make. Once I have that I will stop by the machine shop I used to work and and pick a block to bolt everything too to finish the repairs.

Well I finally had time to do some "real" work on her. Yesterday I spent the day stripping ALL the bolt on stuff off the body. All that is left is the front sub-frame and the rear suspension.

At this point I need to make a cradle/rotisserie to mount the body on while I do the paint stripping and metal work.

I would post pics but I am sure we have seen a car stripped down getting ready for metal work.

Stay tuned.

Chris

I can't believe I didn't eve get a "dude why the heck are you trying to salvage that bell housing" comment.

lol Chris...the compressor looks good, and like you I enjoy the challenge of trying to fix .something like that bellhousing. I need to get a gas tank for my mig welder, and then figure out what supplies I need to try welding aluminum. I'm new at welding.

Sorry I havent been following too closely...I tend to spend more time over at pro-touring.com than here (no offense I hope to anyone).

That's cool....

I just thought for sure someone would chime in about the bell housing. I may not end up using it but it is good practice as I have been away from the TIG welder for a couple years now. The weld tuned out OK... I had some time the other day and I cleaned it up and ran a weave pass over it, looks better now but I am still out of practice.

I have been really happy with the compressor, I had to use it some Saturday while removing stuff from the car. It was great to be able to grab the die grander with the cutoff wheel and remove a stuck emergency brake cable for instance.

Know what you mean.....good to have the right tools for the job. I'll pretend I know what a weave pass is and nod my head.....lol

Man it's been a while since I have been able to post in here!

I am uploading some pics of the repaired bell housing as I type. I will post them up as soon as they finish uploading. I've been working on lining things up to start move work on the project. Hopefully this winter I will get to spend some time working on her.

Stay tuned.

Chris
