Update
Hey guys, hope all has been well! Little update, I came across a great deal on Craigslist for some 3x10 1/2 steel sheets that I am planning on building my chassis jig with. They could be in better condition and there is some pitting, especially on the first sheet that was exposed to the elements for awhile, however this side will definitely be a bottom piece. I would love to have them Blanchard ground but at a quote of $900 a sheet, its way too pricey. The other sides are much better and I should be able to finish them very nicely. I plan on cutting plates, fixtures, and rotor stands out of this plate as soon as I can get my design to a CAD designer and then water jet or laser. They weigh about 1200lbs
I want the jig to be adjustable and mobile. I am going to build something similar to the strong hand tools build pro table, but instead of plates running the width of the jig they will mostly like run the perimeter of the jig and be 5'X1' with cross sections so I can move around in the car. You can see by the chalk I'm just mocking some things up of potential hole patterns etc. I'm considering 5/8 holes with smaller holes in between for bolting. I chose 5/8 because I can maybe use some of stronghand tools fixtures in the future. I will have the corners radius-ed and the jig wont be welded to but more of a platform to mount my car, etc. The tricky part is designing the platform below the plates, but I think I have some good ideas. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Also, does anyone know of anyone that could help me get my drawings into CAD for the plate? Hey guys just wanted to throw out some updates! Not too much going on, but sourced a complete c5 rear suspension with the upper rails attached, so I can have a good starting point of all the suspension points to build a jig off of! Contemplating duplicating all of the control arms with chromoly tubing, howe racing balljoints, spherical bearings, larger splined hub bearing for a 934cv stub, etc. and then selling off the rest.
Anyways hoping to take the steel next week to have water jet, into my jig pieces along with all the holes. Hey guys hope all has been well! Well my build just got really interesting and even more complicated lol! How about plans for a twin turbo R5/p7 Dodge NASCAR engine?????????? I think so! I wanted to do something that was exotic and a combination that was rare and I think Ive met that criteria so far. I hope to build a stout combination that is reliable for the street and will make heads turn. Hard part now is going to be mating the bellhousing/clutch/ to a strong enough transaxle/diff and researching the best combination of parts.
As you can see I was playing mock up in the living room haha! But you get the idea. I have a good head start on the major parts for the engine to be mocked up on the jig and in my chassis. The block is a brand new unmachined piece with billet mains, 6 bolt heads, etc. The amount of R and D in these engines and heads is a work of art. Its really amazing and I would like to thank Mr. Arrington in Concord, NC for the great hospitality and answering my questions. I like where this is going! I wanted to do a twin turbo engine for my Cuda as well but am settling on a stroked small block for now. Do you still need help with CAD ? PM me if you need a hand with that.

I think a small block stroker is a good setup, my father's drag duster is a stroked r3 motor. I thought the twin turbo r5 would be something alittle out of the box, but turbos sure do complicate a already highly complicated engine. I actually still need to put my chassis jig design into cad for a waterjet to cut the plate for my fixture attachments. Would you have experience in something like this? Know any solidworks? Hows your project coming? Jay Hilliard Thanks for the comment! You have quite the build also and great attention to detail. The c6 pieces took awhile to collect, lots of work to sandblast, replace bushings, smooth castings, etc. But would it shock you if I am contemplating duplicating them out of chromoly tubing with spherical bearings and selling them? I know it seems crazy, but really considering it. |
