Great Progress

Do the cars need to be regularly inspected for illegal mods like that over there?
Here in Cali we mainly have to worry about smog tests |

Body mods, this is where input from the forum guys is welcomed, good or bad. Some times you cant see the forest thru the trees so I'll welcome any comments on this major mod. I want to turn the F100 into a Unibody by welding the rear tub on and welding up the joining seem. To me it would give the Effy cleaner lines here is some pic's to help my case.
Early 60's F100 Unibody. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s..._5189774-1.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s.../F100/gas3.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...no-subject.jpg Same early 60's F100 with a bolt on tub. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...100large-1.jpg I've contacted Ben Hermance to do a rendering of the truck, he is busy till late Feb so I have to sort body design in a few weeks so he can work his magic  |
the unibodies are awesome! I want one.
|
The unibody design is cool, I say with a frame and drive train that you have, you must do the unibody!
Good luck with the build! Mike |
The idea for the uni body is buy two LWB bed skins ( LMC Truck Parts - Page 21 ) and blend then weld them on from the door rear door jam. I'd fab a frame to hold the skins. So all im doing is making clean lines using the panels there would be no bed as such on the effy just the outer skins and tailgate hiding the frame and suspension. Kind of what they do on race trucks, the frame could be fabed to allow the tailgate to open, really its a neat way to cover up 345 tyres.

I missed that you are down under and it all makes sense now. Cant wait to see the final product. Unibody truck would be sweet and go right along with the rest of the build!

I like the unibody idea. That would make for a very smooth and clean look.
I had no idea you guys had such restrictions on vehicles down there. Holy crap is that a lot you have to deal with when doing builds. You should be applauded for just figuring out how build a legal truck, lol. |
We make a aluminum dash insert for this year of F100. We can make it with 3,5 or 6 holes depending on what style of gauging you plan on using. Check it out in our catalog section of our web site at www.jbmicrofinish.com Thank you
