Update on Cassie and my sincere thanks
My sincere thanks to all of you. I am home tonight now with the kids. A quick update, we thought she had stomach flu which lasted a week with no improvement and we were sent to ER on Friday. They were backlogged and it took about 5 hours to finally get her into X-Rays. They found that her lower intestines were twisted badly and causing an obstruction. Along with this was a torn or punctured area that had been leaking all the bad stuff. A fairly large area of her intestines were very infected, along with other parts of her. This is late Friday evening that the surgeon tells me this, and then tells me that she may not pull through due to the infection and damage it had caused. Heart stopping to go in for flu and end up thinking she may not make it out of hospital. The surgery lasted about 6 hours or so, and he felt it went very well. Found out later that this is the hospitals best surgeon--he was, up until about 6 months ago, operating on our soldiers in Afgahnastan, where he was the head trama surgeon for a period of about 2 years. He said this was like putting on a bandade compared to what he has seen. Anyways, miracle 1. Her fever broke completely today and her pulse is down to normal. We had our first pretty good conversation today. They are still pumping her stomach to keep it clean, but she may be able to come off of that tomorrow. If you could pray for her, we need her stomach and intestines to "Wake up" and start working the way they should. That will give us the green light to pull a lot of the equipment that has been helping her, but also makes it hard for her, and stop using it. I think it's tough for her to think about this incision they made--it is over a foot long from the middle of her chest to her belly button. I am just greatful she is alive and improving. I am very greatful for the outpouring of support from you all as well. I was able to finally read all of the comments to her tonight from my phone. She was visably touched, as was I. Thanks for all of this--it's amazing what becomes important in a time like this--and I do so appreciate all of you that commented and texted. I am still running on adrenelene, but am starting to hit the wall. I am home with kids tonight having just left Cassie as she dozed off. Thanks again for the prayers and well wishes--it really did encourage us tonight. Hope you guys had a great time with your fam's today. I'll post an update in the next couple of days. They are saying a week in the hospital from today as long as everything goes well, then about 6 weeks down time from there to recover. We appreciate you all and thank you again.
