Finally getting back to this project, had to completely re-skin a 68 Camaro that was not planned when project arrived, go figure. Anyways, in preparation for the new DSE sub, LS3 and 6 speed, I started on the firewall. Naturally, as with the rest of this car, the DSE firewall plate was butchered. So we removed it, replaced it, and then did not stop till I got to the other side of the firewall. Still a work in progress, but a good start. Sorry Matt, if you see this before you come by on Thursday. :D

I stopped by Mikes shop today to see the car, and its really starting to come along. I can't say enough good things about his knowledge and skills. Here is a few pics.

Thanks Matt, I got more photos of the carnage I will be posting later tonight. Disregard the angle of the shocks in Matt's pic, the upper brackets were not welded in place yet.

I think we made it to the bottom. We were concern about some of the metal work in the back of the car and decided to investigate. Between what we found and the hidden rust also present, our next big decision was made alot easier. We are slightly further along as Matt's pics shows, so more updates coming soon!

frame rail folded back and not welded, both sides were this way

they attempted to glue bond the outer wheelhouse to the quarter panel, but forgot to clamp it down after laying a bead of glue

which resulted in us doing this after we discovered the hidden rust

We got the car back in January, but sat for a couple months while we sold off some parts and waited for the DSE stuff to arrive.

Looks like Matt is in good hands now. I hope he wasn't completely surprised at how bad the previous work was.:(

OMG this car has turned into a serious redo. Holy crap! I'm glad it's getting the proper attention it deserves now. Great work Mike.

He was, but Matt has been excellent to work with under the circumstances to make this car right like it should been to start with.

Save the old quarters

Mike, If you haven't trashed the old quarters, would you be interested in cutting the artificial brake vents out? The stamped parts in front of the wheels. I am wanting to graft them into my quarters. I'll call you Tuesday. I would like to buy these sections. It's cheaper than buying entire quarters and shipping them truck freight just to cut this section out.
