It's so weird (or not) that this thread cropped up after the in-depth BMX bike discussion I had with somebody at Thunderhill (USCA)--it was the guy on the cool Torker cruiser. There's sooo much bitchin' 80s cred here...
I happen to live in mountain bike mecca, but my mountain bike is basically a 29er BMX bike, being that it's a hardtail singlespeed. I've even got a half-done mini trail system in my yard.. Here's the hipster road bike I sometimes ride on lake trails (bought new in 2004): |
That would be Steve on the Torker, he's the one who pushed me to get my GT and is also a founding member of the BeerMX crew. Jason's Jedi mind tricks were too powerful for him, he's got a race bike and is known to follow people around the track watching their lines....I'm not sure if anyone has told him it's a one lap race!

Yes Basher I am slow around the BMX track, but Im okay with that, it is pretty damn fun though!

So, a buddy of mine has a circa 79'? Nickel plated Mongoose with "Tuffy's",he'll never sell it (it is pretty bad-a$$), what is something like that worth?

I had a Mongoose Californian with Skyway Tuff IIs (Skyway was actually part of a display they had in the CA state capitol building in the mid-80s), circa 1983. It was a mixed-metals frame (from Taiwan), with the rear made of mild steel instead of chromoly--it was all chome (like my present Bianchi). Of stupid things to eat at a person, this really annoyed me at times...
That bike was stolen twice, and recovered by the cops twice. Talk about a hot bike... My current (dirt) bike evokes the white-paint thing that caught on (and stuck with me) in the mid-to-late '80s--you can't forget the Redlines, Profiles, Hutches, GTs (freestyle), and whatnot in white... |
