Wow ! It's doesn't get any cooler then those 2 illustrations above now does it !!!??? Awesome work.
Is that Tom Sullivan ?? Whew, I'm printing those on glossy paper baby :woot: |

These renderings are only the beginning. He will be creating renderings such as the '69 Camaro that I posted a couple of pages back. He is going above and beyond with my Viper. I have been taken hundreds of pictures of my Viper during the disassembly and emailing them to Tom. The pictures help him to creat a realistic rendering instead of relying 100% on illustrations/drawings. Needless to say I can't say enough good things about Tom and his work  Stay tuned  |
Transmission removed and ready for inspection. I am having the tranny inspected even though it only has 1800 miles because I would kick myself if I re-installed and found out it needed maintenance.

Pics of seat, center console and door panel before being upholstered. I have selected a wicked awesome material to cover the seats, center console and door panels with. Door panels will have two different materials. I will not be putting carpet back on the door panels.

Sure lookin' bare with wheels and brakes removed. I decided to upgrade my brakes. So I ordered a set 14" SRT10 Calipers from Dave's Big Brakes. Plus I ordered an emergency brake kit for the rear.

Now that the engine is out I took the opportunity to remove all the welding spatter inside the engine bay area, along the transmission tunnel and around the shock mounts. These are the before pictures.

Pics after removing all the weld spatter. Next step is to prime the bare metal areas. Then some black paint. I will also be installing heat barrier to the transmission tunnel.

I have been struggling to find a company that wants to create custom gauge faces for my Viper. It seems that most of the companies only want to work on older muscle car gauges. They don't want to touch new stuff like the Viper. But I think I may have found someone with the expertise to work on these gauges.
Before I send the gauges away I made sure to remove the gauge face from the gauge. The gauge face was crimped onto the gauge housing. I was pretty sure that noone would want to attempt removing the gauge face, so I did. I used my trustworthy Dremmel with a cut of bit and proceeded to remove the crimped lip. Worked like a charm. Below are pics of the two different size gauges in my Viper. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...8_179_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...8_180_full.jpg |

These pics will give you an idea how the engine renderings are initiated and then expanded to form the engine.

New set of 14" 2003 Viper SRT-10 calipers, brake lines, proportioning valve and emergency brake kit from Dave's Big Brakes. These will be installed on my Viper. :D

Your build is very interesting to watch. I really appreciate you taking the time to include everyone her on all the work your putting into this. If you don't mind me asking, "What do you do, or what did you do for a living?". You are obviously in a very enviable position to be doing this type of "Dream" car build. I want to follow in your foot steps in my next life. Take care and keep the pictures coming. Thanks, Ty |
I agree with Ty , Spddmnjays documentation and pictures are best so far here in lateral-g
Keep em coming:cool: |
x2 to the comments on pictures... love the effort you put into documenting, follow this therad closely...
what has struck me about the viper is how "home made" it looks.. i mean the chassis looks like somthing i could have made.. except i like to think my welds look nicer :D love what you are doing to it... personally i think that the biggest improvement on the whole is propably the added sound and heat insulation (im not downplaying the turbos... but for drivabillity its the little things that count, ant you are addressig all of them) |

I am an engineering technologist by day and Viper wrencher by night. The reason I am able to do these mods and/or changes is the fact that I am doing them over an extended period of time...like maybe 4 years. Plus I am doing the work myself. I wouldn't be able to afford all these changes if I were to send it to a Tuner and/or try to finish the Viper in a shorter period of time. I am a perfectionist and really enjoy taking the time to do things the right way. I would much rather investigate an idea and learn all about it before I decide to go ahead. This is the only way I can reduce mistakes and possible headaches. This is why my Viper will not be complete until probably 2009. My philosophy is "Do it right or don't do it at all!" Oh and here is something that probably most of you didn't know...Vipers are selling for the most affordable prices ever. Mostly due to the struggling US economy. So now is the time to purchase a Viper if you ever wanted one. I'm hoping to purchase another one sometime soon. Hope this answers your questions. Cheers Jason |

I'm happy to hear the members are enjoying it. Needless to say this thread will be going on and on and on for a long time. |

You got that right that it is the little details that make the biggest differences. The interior cabin of the Viper is an absolute oven without any heat barrier. The exhaust running along the side of the car and the hood is very closed in...which doesn't allow the engine to exhaust the heat very well. Makes for killer heat :faint: I've got many, many more details to come. Enjoy the progress. :) |
Just wanted to update the members on progress. I have been sick for the past couple of weeks and therefore haven't done much of anything. But I've still done some stuff. ;)
I just purchased the speakers, sub and amplifier. I will be fabricating a custom sub enclosure to fit in the rear of the Viper. I'll post pics as soon as I start work on the system. |
The door hinges have a flexible tensile piece of steel that the door hinge acts against to provide tension when the door is open. Over time the original grease dries out.
If the grease has dried out, you'll hear a 'pop' noise when opening the door. This is a tell tale sign that new grease is required. If new grease is not applied it is very possible and likely that the flexible piece of steel will break . If it does break the only fix is to purchase a complete new hinge...and that isn't cheap. Needless to say I took the opportunity to apply new grease because my hinges were drier than a beer-fart-in-the-desert. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...8_203_full.jpg |
