Yep pretty close, it's going to sit about an inch lower in the rear. We couldn't get the lift down all the way. It hit the floor before we were at ride height.

Yep the idea was to retain as much as the stock frame as we could in the front in order to keep the factory geometry. My goal is to drive the truck and hit local cruise night 3 or 4 times a week with it once it's complete.

Good Morning All,

The final pieces of the bed floor have been cut and ready for welding. It's starting to look complete.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_07_002.jpg

Filler Neck for Fuel - It actually is just above the bed floor

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_07_003.jpg

Okay your not going to belive it but it's coming apart again.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_07_007.jpg

just a cool picture

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_07_011.jpg

why is it coming apart - well were redoing the firewall for the 3rd time. Maybe this time i'll be happy.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_07_024.jpg

Yep that dam string is back.

While we are there we are going to open up the wheel tub area and make them look exactly the same and offer more clearence.

More to come next week - New Firewall and New Crazy Idea's

TravisB 01-10-2006 12:49 PM

Well Kinda of. We are going to do something very similar. I'll keep everyone up to date on the new firewall. I've spent a lot of time rethinking it and i think it will look 100% better. I want to thank Laramie at Precision Brakes for helping me with the new, new, new Master Cylnder and Brake Pedal Combo. It should finish the firewall

Here is what i've learned.
1. Don't move you engine over to clear your steering Shaft (move your steering shaft)

2. If you move your motor over (or back to factory location) you may cause these problem.
A. The motor just doesn't seem right in the engine bay
B. Create's all Kinds of Problems when trying to make inner Fenders
C. Remember Center is Cool.

3. Did i mention don't lower the motor (sounded like a good Idea at first)
A. The benifit of lowering were soon outweighed when we found we had little or no room for the inner fenders

4. and Most important
A. Have a plan and try to stick to it.

yep it's real all 14" of it. Some may say i'm overcompensating

syborg tt 01-13-2006 12:08 PM

Okay here is a quick midweek update.

As you all know something is wrong with me.
We've moved the motor back to the center and i am finally happy again.

And Yep we've even added one more string.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_12_026.jpg

You can see exactly how much it moved over if you look at the intercooler elbow.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_12_027.jpg

more to come tommorow

We still plan to raise the motor up to gain more tire clearence however looks like the trans tunnel is going to get cut.

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_12_033.jpg

Yep it's center

01-14-06 Update - Making room for the new Firewall and Wheel Wells

Well, worked on the truck a little this weekend with a good Friend Paul.
Paul came along to help with the future firewall modifications. Should be very interesting couple weeks.

You really can't tell from this picture but we raised the motor up at least an 1.5"

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_14_001.jpg

Which meant the floor got it the way - more will cut out later

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_14_002.jpg

This is how far back the firewall is going to be once we cut it and make it flat

http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._01_14_015.jpg

check out these custom motor mounts

syborg tt 01-16-2006 07:57 PM

Yet another inner fender idea

srh3trinity 01-16-2006 08:47 PM

My knowledge or turbocharging is limited, but could you enclose the turbo within the inner fender and insulate it somehow to keep the engine bay cooler and provide some way for the compartement to have airflow across it. Otherwise, I like that fender treatment, it looks very clean and custom. Truly an amazing truck that you have got going and I like the fact that you went with the 4.3. Then again, I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to cover up turbos from a visual standpoint, they are a beautiful thing.

GvEman 01-17-2006 01:39 AM

Looks nice. That last fender idea looks nice, as long as the turbo get to close to the tire. But I guess you have already thought about that...

I am leaning towards this design myself. Funny you should say turbo's to close to the tires. This is the reason we had to cut the motor mounts off is to raise the motor up to gain tire clearence.

As far as hiding the turbo's - yes it cn be done but my goal is to show them off.

srh3trinity 01-17-2006 02:19 PM

I don't blame you, I would show them off too.

66chevy 01-18-2006 03:46 AM

Thanks for the updates on your project. The truck is going to be top notch.

Deron

GvEman 01-18-2006 05:03 AM

Ah... Did not think of that :P And of course you should show of your turbo's.
