update

Just to update, really hard at in now on the bird. Just finishing up another bird, ford tbird.
Working on headlights:
Pulled our first good parts. The halo parts fit right in place as well as turn signal lens.
It will have a lexan front after installed.
I am trying to decide if I should paint the inside of the headlight body color like corvettes or flat black. What do you think? The rings will look much bigger after they are painted chrome regardless of what color I paint the rest.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/000_1272.jpg
Making all the lights fit behind and be adjustable means I need to make a form and mold off of the back side that will hold the parts and seal up. So this is me making the buck for that.

All the parts are in place, just need to high build prime it, sand it, pva and jell coat and 5 layers of glass and I have a mold.

here is the mold for my cupholders\

and here is my first center console part fresh out of the mold.

I made my door panels and they turned out great. If you have the Tiger cage roll bar then your deluxe door panels wont clear. These look almost stock and we made the arm rest clear the roll cage.

Nice progress, the door panels look great.

zingercustoms 01-11-2013 09:56 AM

We are getting ready to paint the new hood. Installed it to get the close out panel we are making right. I am soooo glad we went ahead and changed to this hood. Also some pics of the interior. We made some covers for the carpet to lay on over the wires and roll bar plates. The seats fit great. The door panels fit really good, working on clips to hold them in place.

Got alot done this week....carpet is cut and getting edging sown on. Getting parts ready for paint, center console etc. Final Headlight bucket molds done, should have parts made tomorrow. I decided to make a close out panel for the front. I will make a mold and make them available, will fit stock front.

Been following this build for some time, awesome work!!! One question, what is the "soft touch clear" you used on the console above?

Thanks :cheering:

zingercustoms 01-24-2013 10:00 AM

Alsa Paint company....."Soft touch clear" It literally feels like rubber....so cool. easiest thing in the world to spray too. I did 3 coats, takes a long time to dry.....overnight, came in this morning and was blown away. never saw anything like it. Perfect for interior parts.

I am so impressed with all the cool resin work and attention to details throughout the whole build. I am also going to use Alsa Soft Touch clear on my Dash frame, center console and rear package tray, your pics give a better idea of what my parts will look like than on thier site, what basecoat did you use for the Satin Black ? Im having a tough time choosing a Black to get a idea of the look once painted.
Thanks Ross

zingercustoms 01-26-2013 09:30 PM

I have my own paint bank. I am using valspars top line called debeer. euro high solids. I just used pure black base maker. Ford has a really black black they used on crown vics and such.

WSSix 01-27-2013 07:23 AM

Looks great! Do your hands get tired from all the sanding?

zingercustoms 01-27-2013 12:09 PM

Yeah, this isn't so bad as doing the high end paint work we do. This is a project that has kept me busy all year.... My arm feels like it is gonna fall off but the result is really flat and really shiny.....here is a pic looking down the door and showing the split reflection of the front of the tbird. you can see the door end in the foreground.

soft touch is cool but tends to show scratches real bad in darker colors.

zingercustoms 01-29-2013 07:18 PM

well I paid for two spots at the detroit autorama, crunch time....I feel pretty good about being done for the most part with "wild turkey", just having it sit with doors shut, windows up and trunk shut in worst case. I have another project I have been messing with, a chopper, thought I would post pics.. it get the other spot there at autorama....
just sprayed some final clean on for shine, really pops, pictures don't show it well but it is coming along. I call it "Blood Dragon"

Ok, so working on the closeout panel. first part, just getting it fit and finished for paint. Also Headlights are done and ready to break down and paint. Hood Painted tonight. Making inset for door panels and rear panels. will be black suede, used metal door clips and epoxy to hold them, then will coat over the top with a little filler, sand and wrap. The steering wheel is coming along. I made mold off an old pontiac emblem and cast it in a resin/glassbead mix. We machined some parts to make the quick release wheel mount like a normal one. Aluminum pieces will be painted. Also a shot of a piece of carpet, that is bound and all the carpet is done and ready to go. Just have to finish and paint the nose and keep plugging away.

zingercustoms 02-03-2013 06:14 AM

I drew that up and had it cut on a plasma table and then welded in the gas cap and bent it up to the angles needed. water jet would be better. I have the front grills getting machined right now to match. If you have exact measurements for the parts you want I could draw up a file for them to go off and have cut. let me know.

elitecustombody 02-03-2013 07:12 PM

The paint work on that chopper is insane!

zingercustoms 02-05-2013 05:41 PM

So progress last couple days is wiring and more wiring....all the guages and the headlights, fog lights. As for the doors the panels are fit and all the speakers pre fit and ready to sand and paint. We are using all Infinity speakers with the exception of to JL audio subs. working on getting nose ready for paint. 90% there. also working on the chopper.
The instrument panel is almost ready to install I used the bird blank for the ac controls, worked great, also molded in a digital gas gauge under that. The guages are all Pro Sport brand, like the look of them. especially when lit up. they all do a sweep when you start the car and blink two different colors and are programable. The speedo and tac fit so perfectly in the dash panel.

The oil tank will have a flat black over the gold letters so only a sliver of gold is outlined in the middle of the letters.

I sprayed the pass side dash black with the soft touch to match the rest. I had to make my own glove box insert, since the vintage air took up some room. Just made it out of fiberglass. Also I'm not sure if I mentioned we put a tilt wheel in with newer wiper controls. We are using the same motor for controls as in the newer models.

We made some quick glass pieces to close off and have something for carpet to lay on and hide all the wiring and on the driver side we put the check engine light. They will get cleaned up and sprayed black. They flow right into the console. As for the door opening peices we made to cover the wiring and make a smooth transition for carpet, they will also enable the carpet to lay over the Ride Tech Tiger cage mounts so you will only see the bar and door bar bolt down to the carpet. Also got the dash wrapped to match the seats.

really digging how the bird is coming along. I love that you addressed some of the issus I have with the fornt of a 69 bird;

zingercustoms 02-07-2013 04:17 PM

Thanks. Today was all about getting the instrument dash pad and center console in and hook up all the gauges. surprisingly the main problem area is getting the touch screen radio to fit. I had it in just fine until I hooked up the rca's. the defrost outlet is right in the way. I am getting 90° adapters tomorrow. I can't wait to show the finished heat shield for the exhaust... Turned out great. I had the tail pipe section and shield ceramic coated to cut down on the heat even more around the gas tank. On a side note that soft touch clear is nice but really delicate. I am having second thoughts on the using it on the door panels. I wish I had gotten my vac table finished in time to wrap them... Just maybe after the show.

fleet 02-07-2013 04:21 PM

Really enjoying seeing all the different styling touches...inside and out.

Have you posted it in some 'Bird specific forums yet?

If so, what's been the reaction?

zingercustoms 02-07-2013 06:48 PM

Ha.... Yeah I posted in hard core Pontiac forums and when I got to posting my engine choice it got really interesting. To say the least... Lol. they where not to happy

Go back when it's done and have someone photoshop a 'real' Poncho in.

lol

Seriously, I would think some mags would be interested in something much different then your normal '69 Bird.

The front looks great on there and I love the back.

zingercustoms 02-08-2013 04:29 AM

those pictures are depressing...reminds me of when my shop was clean.....I have to clean up after we are done with the bird. Been a crazy year...lots of fiberglass work makes more than the usual bodyshop mess...If I keep doing it I am gonna move the messy work to my home shop and no more mess here.

zingercustoms 02-22-2013 06:27 PM

ok, been working like crazy, trying not to add to much but have some cool things going on the car, some may not happen before detroit but here are some teasers, lots of help today,
