looks Great! love the stance and wheels!

Tom.A 05-12-2011 06:22 PM

Thanks for the comments guy's. I am pretty excited even though the car is far from done. Like many projects it has sat aside while kids and work take priority. I was looking at some old pictures when I bought the car for $500.00 I might have got ripped

And then before I found this site..I was a little Joe dirt style

Tom,I really think the tree hugger's would be proud of you for doing a great job of recycling and keeping that pile of rusting scrap metal from ruining the local land fill.We all should rebuild a classic car and save the world.:lol:Hey AL Gore what do you think about the recycling us car guy's are doing.

Tom.A 05-16-2011 10:20 PM

Thanks guys.

Scott yes it was a turd but actually the floor pans and quarters are original. The biggest problem was a vinyl top seem gathered water settig in a field for years and rusted but that has been repaired.

Jims78elky 05-16-2011 10:45 PM

I have most of the quirks fixed now need to do some more clean up. I don't trust my welding to do the seat bracket harness so hopefully the guy built my cage to do it next week. I really want those in before I venture to far from home. Here is the interior shot...need to do just about everything in there.

Looking good Tom, can you tell me where you got your headlight switch from
I would appreciate it, so what color are you planning to paint when you get there?

Keep up the great work!

MattWash08 05-17-2011 03:34 AM

Love the color of the primer and I have always loved that bodystyle

I actually wouldnt mind seeing my mustang in a tinted primer like that!

The switch came in the AAW Hwy 22 kit

I am not sure what color yet, but if I was to be paiting it Today I would say Lemans Blue.

Tom.A 07-03-2011 07:07 PM

I have been getting a little done. Seats are nice and secure with proper brackets welded in. Also got new Crow camlock 5 way's installed.

I put in a Harwood Lexan rear window and it will not be staying. To flimsy and scratches real easy.

I have been going over all the bolts to be sure everything is tight for next weekend's event at California Speedway. I will be the new guy with a new car so I am sure I will make you boy's look good
Here are a few more pics

She is a little rough around the edges at first glance but everything below is new under the skin.

Tom.A 07-03-2011 07:15 PM

I can only make it on Sunday next week but I hope to meet some of you guy's so say hi if you see me.
Also I need a little input from you guy's with SA varishock coil over settings.
Is a good baseline 8 clicks? Also I think I have beded the brakes but have no idea if I need more rear brake from the prop valve. Anybody got a good starting point?

Thanks,

coolwelder62 07-03-2011 07:29 PM

ChevelleNV 07-05-2011 08:01 AM

Ya, Nice looking Chevelle. I really love the satin color on it makes it look mean... :) cant wait to see it finished.

Matt@BOS 07-05-2011 10:01 AM

Congrats on getting it on the road! I'll be out at Fontana this coming weekend and will be sure to say hi. I remember my first track outing. I finished dead last on the autocross, so maybe I can give you some pointers, on second thought, maybe I shouldn't :_paranoid

Matt

Vegas69 07-05-2011 10:04 AM

Nice Tom, I'll see you this weekend.

waynieZ 07-05-2011 10:39 AM

It looks great. Now go enjoy all that hard work.

kadettcqp 07-05-2011 12:36 PM

Really nice car. I do like the primered-look and I plan to do the same with my own car once I get close to where I can actually drive it. Then it is possible to fix little flaws, upgrade some stuff etc. and then give it the shining finish.

Dark satin gray sure does look absolutely bad-ass!

Tom.A 07-05-2011 12:47 PM

Thanks guy's

Todd, Matt I look forward to seeing you guys and your car's on Sunday. Hopefully the NMRA guy's let me park at the event and not in the street with my garage primer job

Matt[/QUOTE]

I will take anything pointers I can get , LOL. Like I said I should make you boy's look really good. I have no dreams of being close to anybody. I really need better rear shocks and sway bars, but I am a little burnt on spending money so I will put it off till I learn and get more seat time.

It's just fun to drive. I ventured out on the 91FWY (always a zoo) this am for a 80 mile round trip and ran like a charm. Just trying to get more miles on it so I can mash the pedal a little more:)

Thanks. I am glad I did it this way also as there are some things that I would have messed up if it was painted. The more you take it apart and put it back I get better at it. Don't get me wrong as I wished it was finished and painted.
I really am thinking A/C and heat would be nice as I enjoy driving it more than I thought. I am not sure yet but I kinda wished I went with a 6 point roll bar inpalce of the full cage. The 5 way harness is a PITA running to the store etc. If was just a roll bar I would put morris 3 way belts in it. All those options are still there so we will see.

Rick D 07-05-2011 03:38 PM

Looking really nice Tom, I have planed on doing the same as you did. Get it altogether and then sort it out than blow it all apart to paint it. Can't wait to here how you do at California Speedway, good luck

Rybar 07-05-2011 04:00 PM

Chevelle looks Killer Tom, well done

Have fun!

Tom.A 07-11-2011 10:33 PM

Yesterday I made out to the Hotchkis autocross and had a good time. Car ran good. My wife and kids were there on my first few runs so here are what pictures and a short video I have. I am glad they stopped by because I never found time to take any pictures myself.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...1Autocross.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...Autocross2.jpg

I had a few goals one of which was not to spin out and make an azzhat out of myself on my first ever time autocrossing. Most had already had 15+ runs from the day before but they still let us walk the track on Sunday. I was walking with Rob from Hot Rod and his advice was to just drive it slow the first few times to get the nerves down. I knew he was speaking from prior knowledge as I recalled his turn 2 off track exp at the 2009 OUSCI. Well I never really got the nerves down but I also never spun out either. My first few runs were like 41.xx seconds and then 40.60. Sometimes I forgot to look and never saw the complete list as I cut out about 4 o'clock prior to awards ceremony. Then Matt (69MSA) came over and rode with me a few time and also took me around in his sweet 69which helped. I am not the best student but with Matt's help I ran a 39.20. He showed a few things how I was taking corner's wrong. I did get one of his tip's but there were others that I honestly would forget but a big thanks to Matt for taking the time  The 39.20 was still way off the pace as the fast cars with street tires 36.xx with alot of others running 37 thru 39's. I think 73CPCAMARO ran a 34.xx with hoosiers or something. What a nice car that is. I think I will be able to focus better next time. My short list is better tires (200 tread wear) and a more aggressive alignment. I tried the brake stop a few times but never a full run. It just did not feel right to do yet. The car has about 300 miles on it so I made up my mind to sit that event out till I get a better feel for the car. The seats combined with the down bars make it a little hard to get in out but once your in it feels good. The Kirkey seats sit nice and low with the cage tucked high. I had no problem with helmet hitting bars. All in all I am happy, slow but happy  Below is my first ever autocross run. Believe it or not it seems much faster driving it then it looks.

Car looks great Tom.. . Im sure it was a blast just getting it out on the open road. For me that seems to be what I like best. You did real good for the first time out on the autocross. I have never done it before and feel like Im gonna be a tool but oh well...gotta start somewhere!

Flash68 07-11-2011 11:38 PM

Tom, congrats man! Car looks great out there and that looked like a great rookie lap to me. And it's always good to shake it down a bit and drive her home with little to no issues eh?

Ron, The mufflers are Flowmaster's but I am not sure what series as they came in a A-Body 2-1/2" kit. I think they might be series 50? but they are not marked. I had a local shop install the mufflers but he was having troubles making the kit fit. So I ended up with a non mandrel bent 2-1/2" pipe , no cross over and they dumped before the rear end. The shop was a small town local hack  New mufflers and exhaust system are part of a long term plan. The Ricks tank without notches (cut corners) will make it a little tricky to get over the rear end. I am think the Borla mufflers would be what I want in the future.

The WidowMaker 07-12-2011 06:35 PM

awesome! nothing like a little extra motivation when the build is almost done.

kevs69 08-10-2011 11:25 PM

Great loking car!!!!! awesome write up on the build as well. as a owner of a 69 chevelle myself I am enjoying what you are doing to your car.
I looked thru all the pages and didnt really see anything about the suspension setup you are running. is it possible to get a run down on what you have on the car at the current time!!!!

Kevin
