New Quarter Panel
Once the guys at Ironworks started stripping the right-side quarter panel, previously "fixed/repaired" areas were exposed........ as in large open rusted through holes. A new panel was purchased from Classic Industries and installed. This coincided with the right-side tub being built.
http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...hoppics008.jpg The guys at Ironworks make this look so easy! --Eric |
Tank and Tubs...............
More progress was made on the back-half of the Nova. The right-side tub is in! The gas tank and trunk sheet metal can now be finalized.

Front End..........
Here are a few photos of the front end. Its been a while since I've seen the Nova with fenders and a hood. PROGRESS!!!!

Damn I love progress.

Trunk Sheet Metal.........
Here are a few shots of the sheet metal in the trunk. These are really cool!

I'm so amazed how much stuff is inside of that little car.
The tubs and trunk area are a work of art all by themselves. Rich |
Sorry if its obvious to others but is all the body sheet metal going to be welded together then you just pick it off the frame like usual and sand/paint/prime the body and frame separatly?

I think your the lucky one, luck is cheaper than working to get it to clear for weeks and weeks. I would have to say your the one that lucked out this deal. I wish every project went this smooth. Thanks for all the Positive feed back, We try really hard. Rodger |
Wow art work for sure!! Love your full frame build ups.

Trans Tunnel.............
More progress! Here are a few pics of the Transmission Tunnel:

The panel welds were completed and ground smooth. Here is a pic looking through the trunk:

As usual, I am late jumping in here, just now today noticing this post...
As a CAD Designer, (CATIA/Pro-Engineer), I know exactly what you mean about the whole "Concepulize it, model it, send it to the CNC machine, and pick up your PERFECT parts"... It's tough to beat...The question I have is the one that is bugging me and my '67 Chevelle 2-Door Wagon project: "How far do you go with the CAD modeling?"...Do you scan/measure/model and surface EVERYTHING, like the inner body structure, or is this mostly an exercise in frame/suspension engineering?... I figure you most likely started with the original frame pickup points, and a general representation of the inner body structure and then designed your frame as an overlay (per say)... Did you physically measure the C5 Vette stuff for CAD modeling or did you plot the pick-up points for the UCA's and LCA's both front and rear...How ever you did it, it's just waaaaaay cool... I feel ya Bro' about the whole Solids Design...Aint no other way to do it, no way, no how, no say no... How's the CAD job market down there? Rick |
Killer setup good job.:hail: :hail: :hail:

Rendering...........
I know its been a while since I posted last, so here is an update.
I got this in an e-mail just the other day. It is one of the possibilities for the rear of the car. http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...ynova/nova.jpg I wanted to 'modernize' the rear without losing the appeal of the original design. This rendering shows tail lights that have the original shape but are larger in size. You will also see a hint of a rear spoiler in the rendering! --Eric |
More sheet metal.............
Before I share the new rear design, I thought I would share more pics of the interior sheet metal fabrication.
http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...hoppics004.jpg http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...hoppics010.jpg Where did my dash go????? http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...hoppics011.jpg --Eric |
Amazing! You aren't going to cover all of that wonderful fab work and metal with carpet and interior panels are you? It is just too nice.

New Rear Panel Design
The following pics show the results of a wild idea that I've have with Novas but have never had the tools/no-how to do ........ but I really wanted to try it on this project. Rodger told me (after-the-fact) that he thought I was drunk when I first nemtioned this concept. Well, here goes..............
I've always wanted to 'modernize' the rear panel of a Nova by replacing the tail lights with larger ones..... They still need to be the same basic shape but they should be larger. My stumbling block was the trunk lid...... Because of the trunk lid opening, I was always limitied to the size of tail lights...... SO WHY NOT GET RID OF THE TRUNK LID OPENING.... I asked Rodger to take my trunk lid, cut off the downward portion, and weld it to the car! Sounds so simple..... Here are the results: Before surgery: http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/DSC_0319.jpg After surgery: http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/DSC_0323.jpg http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/DSC_0322.jpg Rodger then fabbed a complete replacement panel and attached it to the car. These pics show the car with the modified trunk lid: http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/DSC_0325.jpg http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/DSC_0326.jpg --Eric |
