Yeah Jim, why? Either way, looks damn good.

I think it looks outstanding! I'm also guessing since he owns a body shop, the paint was a logical choice. Although in my opinion, I prefer paint. If you use good products it is as durable if not more. It can also be repaired much easier. Surface prep is easier because you don't have to deal with the high heat for baking the powder. Anyway, not to put words in Bill's mouth. JMO. Again, wow. this is going to be an awesome truck. I like trucks!

Hey no complaints or criticisms here Bill. I love this build and look forward to updates. I was just curious. Hell, I wish I knew how to do some stuff on my own without waiting on others. Moreover importantly, not having to pay others, huh? I could have saved a few $10,000 by now. LOL!!:hail:

few update pics chassis comming together. bill

To powder or not

Chad, I understand why Bill painted his chassis because he owns his own shop, I respect that. But there is no way liquid paint can match a proper powdercoated chassis. We sandblast to white condition, Phosphate wash it 3 stages,Seal it with a rustprotectant/sealer/ Epoxy powdercoat prime it and a powder topcoat.

easy now i wasnt disin powder, i think the guy i used only 1 step because i could still see a lot of pits. and my paint rep always told me powder had no corrosion protection(thats comming from a guy selling me paint)lol it sounds like your process is more advanced than explained to me buy a paint salesman. heres some updat pics of the bottom of my cab . thanks for checking in bill

I agree with Bill. It sounds like your process is the exception. Most shops don't go to that length. In fact I don't know of one around me that does and if they did you might as well gold plate it if you know what I mean. Your site has some nice stuff on it. Great work. Different strokes............I guess.

Later,

ccracin 11-12-2009 05:03 AM

Looks really good. So what is the final color going to be ?

bill amsley 12-01-2009 06:41 PM

the final color is going to be solid red,but for now the interor metal will be red & the out side will be semigloss black. i want to debug the truck w out having to worry about the paint plus i like the look of new e coated metal. my dad keeps saying just paint the damn thing and get it over with.

gearheads78 12-01-2009 08:03 PM

one of the sweetest 67-72 trucks ever :hail:

214Chevy 12-01-2009 08:30 PM

Bill, the body work is flawless. The lines on the cab are beautiful. I mean the frame around the window and the shaved drip rail lines are sick. I also like the indention in the roof panel.

Datsbad 12-02-2009 06:28 PM

bill amsley 12-03-2009 06:08 PM

T_Raven 12-04-2009 08:45 PM

Just saw this thread for the first time. I love what you've done so far. This style truck is my favorite. I got rid of my 72 GMC a few years ago but I've been wanting to get another one and stretch the cab. I've also got an idea for a hood and grill I want to try out.

Bill,

Looking very nice. I need to talk to you about the flush mount windshield. Did you use the stock windshield? What did you paint the perimeter with. I have been working this through in my head for some time. I really would like to pull this off on ours as well. Great job!

68RS350 12-11-2009 09:58 AM
