WHHHOOO ITS FINALY TWIN TURBO TIME!!!!!!
Hooked up with a local co.called Modern automotive performance. there turbo tech is just awesome!! as if just a great bunch of guys was not enough. They schooled me on my turbo questions. and we ended up ordering a pair of Precision 58 mm turbos. After getting a bunch of @#$ about not wanting to make at least 1000 hp. on twin turbos. Although I do think it is awesome that it is so easy to do. I just drive the car to much to want to have that much hp. on the street.I would rather have the power out of the hole rather than coming in with big power at the top end. so I think a realistic goal will be about 650rwhp.and 20 mpg.Yes I am concered about mpg. what fun is having big hp. if you can't afford to drive it?if any one is looking for a great turbo shop. call the guys at Modern automotive performance. www.maperformance.com these guys can answer all your questions and turbo concerns.there phone # is 763-545-3800

the turbos are precision 58/57 with a .62ar.as for the trim and the cmf I do not remember off the top of my head.they are rated at 600hp each so they should be able to support an easy 650 to 700 to the rear wheels.and I can't wait.:D

E.rodz 02-06-2012 12:18 PM

started fabbing the hot side headers.

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/IMAG0793.jpg
believe it or not this was prob. the easy part. The rest of the hot piping is not going to be fun at all. Unless you like crawling around on the floor. Hopefully its going to be worth it.

E.rodz 02-20-2012 02:22 PM

well it has been a little slow going. but still taking a forward path.
the other side is even tighter the steering shaft is another problem.but I think we are going the right direction.

Thanks wyane you want to know the hardest part about getting them to look assymetrical. eveything this definetly proved to be a way bigger challenge than I would have ever guessed.making something to look assymetrical when nothing is is just a bear.but all in all I am happy with the results.now its on to the cold side piping.

E.rodz 03-07-2012 12:21 PM

started getting the intercoolers fabbed up.never done this before so I hope this works.

this should be big enough I think.hopefully the radiator has enough flow now. just for the thought I ordered a double pass and two inches wider and the inlet and the outlet are both on the pass. side

waynieZ 03-07-2012 08:07 PM

It looks good, Nice work. I'm suprised you didn't try to make your own radiator...

E.rodz 03-08-2012 07:44 AM

this thing is huge and it completly covers the front face of the radiator plus it has the a/c condensor between the cooler and the radiator. prying the radiator still has enough air flow.or this could be a disaster being is I am going to fabricate a new core support to fit all of this.
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/IMAG0847.jpg
here is the begining of the new fan shroud for the new radiator.

Wish me luck I could use it.

E.rodz 03-29-2012 07:47 AM

Copy the YouTube "address" of the video AFTER the "="

In your post - click on the green icon that looks like "film"

Paste your address between the ] [ and make sure you have the ] [ caps still there - it's easy to paste and cut these out...

So before you post -- hit the PREVIEW POST button to see if you have it right.

GregWeld 03-30-2012 08:06 AM

So easy - a caveman can do it! LOL

E.rodz 04-04-2012 10:18 AM

punched a ton of holes the other night and finaly got my head wrapped around the core suport system and how it is going to all lay out.sometimes it takes me longer to think of how thing are going to come together than is does to build it.I sure hope this works.

Thanks Wayne had a bit of a break with some quality family time.Hope to get back on my own stuff for a change.Hope you are still making forward progress on your car.

E.rodz 04-16-2012 05:22 PM

Dropped the tranny off for a friend of mine to rebuild for me. I really wanted to do this myself, but a friend of mine that I trust greatly was a little short on work and offered to build it for me.so back to work on the core support.

the goal is to make it bullet proof drive train and with any luck not have any more breakdowns this summer.

4l80?

yes we will be going with a 4l80 it kind of stinks that we could add about 2 more #of boost and it will be about the same because of the extra loss through the tranny.but trade offs must be made.going to try to make this super reliable and durability is key.still toggling between getting the shop more workable and the car.

E.rodz 04-23-2012 10:32 AM

well finaly got to get some work on my car insted of everyone elses stuff.
core support getting more complicated by the minute.
brand new radiator lets cut it apart.
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/IMAG1067.jpg
cut nipples off to re oriantate them to make the hoses cleaner.also added steam line 1/4 pipe fitting, and another for the petcock fitting.welded tabs on to hold it in place.
modifications to a/c condensor include removing orig mounting tabs and line blocks and weled new mounting tabs and fittings for the new lines.

this is what the new stack up looks like befor it goes in the car.I hope I measured this right because this is going to be tight.!

E.rodz 04-27-2012 09:47 PM

finally got the center of the core support mounted in the car now just need to fabricate the outer sections .just wait tell you see the ideas that come out of my head next.this is taking forever but I hope it will be worth it in the end.

decided to pull the front suspension out to make some modifications to the a arms to get the bags to stop rubbing when down all the way.ended up scoring a new set of a arms brand unknown off of ebay.$ 125 for all 4 shipped! top ones are very nice quality . the bottoms on the other hand... well lets just say wtf???were they thinking.still think it will be easier to modify the new ones rather than the old ones. Also ordered some drop spindles not for the purpose of lowering rather just to add strength to the wimpy factory spindles.turns out there are two low with the suspension all the way up I am about a 1/2 under my ride height.not alot of productivity going on here..
FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/IMAG1091.jpg

check this out this is the new a arms with the spindle on it. works great just can't steer either direction more than a 1/4 inch either way.wtf!!!

LOL. Wayne. We were going to hook up on the power tour this year.I think this is going to be another fail for the both of us.hope to see your car on the road this summer.thanks for the interest.

E.rodz 05-25-2012 10:27 AM

trying to make progress but being pulled in every direction and not getting the time to work on my car.The core support has been kicking my azz.I thought the piping for the turbos would be the hard part, this however is proving to be a huge challenge.

A little bit of everything. shear, tin snips right and left cut, hand nibbler, and a power nibbler that I have been working on this contraption for years just had a chance to use it on the center hole and it works!
