WOW!

Can you take a few moments and explain how you are able to build the curved parts (like the dash), and what it takes to make parts symetrical, etc.

Very impressive.

English wheel, plannishing hammer, Pullmax, shrinker/stretcher, a large collection of hammers and dollies, and a whole lot of practice. We make a lot of paper and metal templates along with wooden bucks to keep things the same side to side. Each piece and shape is different, so it is hard to tell you what to do in a general situation. I would reccomend taking a sheet metal working class to get going on the basics. Ron Fournier, Lazze, Ron Covell and others are out there putting on good classes. Ron Covell also has a lot of books and videos available.

Here are a few more pictures of the gauge pod. Classic Instruments is doing a custom gauge assembly to fit in the pod. It will have a ditital Speedo with a large center mounted tach.

are you gonna make your own gauges? or who is gonna make 'em?
I love the dasbhoard, but I see an alignment problem with the center console and the transmission tunnel... overall looks amazing, I love everything about it, I can't wait to see the engine in

Very good info.

May I ask? For the home shop guy wanting to have some fun and get some of the high end look you have; what would be wrong with mocking up the parts from fiberglass instead of metal before turning them into CF molds?

Nothing, just a difference in the materials used. I'm getting carbon fiber and Kevlar in my current build and will be using fiber glass molds.

I just love seeing people with the fabrication skills to make stuff like seen in this topic, simply amazing...

legend 07-01-2009 07:53 AM

any more info on the r/t in the background of the first pic?

Roadster Shop 07-01-2009 07:55 AM

I definitely agree. The interaction between the builder/owner and everyone else interested in the car is second to none. You can learn a lot on this site from seeing the progress pics and asking how it was done. This is really the only means of getting to ask "real time" questions and get legit answers. It is also cool to be able to show all of the details and work that would not be in a magazine article.

As for the fiberglass vs. aluminum for making plugs for the carbon fiber... we are a lot better/quicker at shaping aluminum than working with fiberglass. Glass is supposed to be quicker and easier though... The carbon was also going to take a while for the parts to be made, so we used tha aluminum pieces as plugs, then got them back so we could do all of the body work and fitment with them while the carbon was being made.

Thanks for the great responses from everyone. Especially Tracy @ the Recovery Room. He has shot me a few spy shots on the interior work and it looks insane!

I'll try to get more pictures posted, but now it is really thrash time to get ready for Cloumbus. We have 5 or 6 new cars debuting at Columbus and we have to get everything ready to go.

The owner really does not want any pics of that car getting out until it is completed. It has an extensive amount of metal work and custom panels made through out. A twin turbo Viper V-10, tube chassis with all Viper suspension geometry on Air Ride, more modifications/alterations that I can even count.

69MyWay 07-01-2009 08:59 AM

I was at Bloomington Gold last weekend and saw one of your frames there - very nice stuff.

I see you are also in Illinois. I moved here in March - you are about 2.5 hours from me.

I need to come visit you guys and see this stuff up close and personal!

Beutiful, art on wheels.

What coating did you use for the exhaust?

What paint did you use on the engine?

I just love the color combo

GMracer 07-06-2009 03:47 PM

:hail: :hail: :hail:

you guys never cease to impress, this just furthers my thoughts on my engine coating, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go all black, but that proves it right there. Keep up the STUNNING work.

Roadster Shop 07-06-2009 05:24 PM

The engine and engine compartment is a custom color we mixed up. It is between a black and graphite, with a little metallic in it. We played around with the clear a lot to get the right finish. The final finish is between a flat and semi-gloss... so... semi-flat????

The exhaust is a flat titanium color that was done by Applied Plastic Coatings in Colorado. They did a great job and turn around time was extremely fast. I would definitely recommend them!

You guys are raising the bar on every project. I personally love the use of DSE components on suspension. These will be driveable too :hail:

This car is awsome. not to change the subject but what happened to the challenger you guys were building awhile back?

It looks like the lugs engage in the back of the wheel, they are still coming through the rotors (unless those pictures were taken before removing them)
