rlplive, I don't have a link, but I will post a new thread tomorrow for my projects (new member here). I don't want to clutter Rogue's project thread with any more pics of my stuff.

Rogue: If you haven't already bought the 17 inch Mini-lites yet, there are two sources for them, but they are very different from each other. PS Engineering makes a set that are exactly like the originals. He makes all kinds of reproduction wheels for the older cars. He does make the T/A II's (Mini-lites) in 17 inch. He can also go to some very wide sizes. Mine are only 17X12. If you look closely at the wheels on the original cars, the HUB is FLAT and the spokes come out from it. The other source is Vintage Wheels Works, they also make a 17 inch mini-lite. Their mini-lite wheels hub is flat except for a small flange that goes around the circumference of the hub. (I think it is probably there for strength) It's NOT exactly like the originals, but it is close. Here is the difference YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT!! The PS Engineering are exact and therefore, you MUST run radial mount Calipers, like what you would find when looking at an original Camaro Brake set up. The hub that you bolt the wheel to is raised just above the caliper so the wheels will not hit the caliper. If you try to run these on Corvette Brakes, you must use a spacer to clear the caliper so they will bolt flush on the hub. That said you will have to allow for the spacer height when you tell what backspace you want for the wheels, and you will need to run longer bolts (Damn I can't think of the right word right now for them) for your lug nuts to have enough thread to mount properly. PSE's are hand built and can put any backspace you want on it. Just know that they WILL NOT FIT CORVETTE STYLE BRAKES, unless you prepare your hub correctly. The Vintage Wheel Works will mount with corvette style brakes right away, HOWEVER they will not match the original mini-lites wheels the "Trans Am", Racers used. (I don't know if you are a Purest or not) To make them fit over the caliper they have to back cut the spokes in the wheel so the caliper will clear. (As mentioned earlier, the extra flange was put on these wheels probably because material was cut from the rear of the spokes) In any event for you and anyone else wanting to buy min-lites for their car, this is the real poop. Good Luck with your car. It looks great. Take care, Ty O'Neal |

evilzee28: Your Wheels look greats. Are you using the PS Engineering T/A II Wheels? I know they are NOT the Vintage Wheel Works wheels. I just wrote up a post on this thread so Dane, and anyone else, would know the difference between the two of them. Here is a site that shows a picture of the VWW "Mini-lites", for comparison. http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/wheel...ubcat3=1111102 Anyway, start a thread on your car so we who enjoy the "Trans Am', Style Camaro's can follow your build. Take Care, Ty |

Rogue: The PS Engineering T/A II's (Mini-lites) Will fit those brakes because of the raised hub (or) Radial Mount Calipers. Check out PSE, I really enjoyed visiting with the guy who makes the wheels. He is very nice and knowledgeable. Take car and good luck. Ty |

Based on your brakes, PS Engineering. They are called the, "T/A II". I wasn't sure you were getting these post immediately or not, so I wanted to post on something that would go straight to you. Ty |

Are the larger sizes fairly new? I checked them a while back and I don't remember seeing them much bigger than 15 or 16 inches. Ty |

Very Fricken Cool! I'm looking for a signed dash to go in my car. Do you know anyone who has one they might sell?:unibrow: Having those pictures are worth the price of the work he did for you. Take care, Ty |

It cracks up my friends every time he does it  pardon the slurring, my meds tend to make me a bit loopy late at night :captain: here he is practicing his basketball hops and me doing my best impression of bigfoot. Funny critters for sure, if you can handle their 'gas' problems. He lets off more fumes than my big block  |

Dane: Does the #7 have a special meaning for you? BTW: The Guillstrand License Holder might get you out of a Ticket. If you have COP behind you, he will probably call in D7 502. I have a Bonneville Frame on all my cars and got pulled over. He said the Frame itself is why he pulled me over. Seems here, that if ANY part of the License is covered it is illegal. What did I do??? I left it. I like the way it looks and haven't been pulled over again since.:D Ty O'Neal |
Great info I was unaware of! I prefer the looks of the PS Engineering wheel and their fantastic build quality and the fact that they are made locally by a small business owner, but that seems like quite a headache, especially with my wilwoods. Lucky for me, PS Engineering is local to me and within driving distance. I was going to drop by and see what sort of sizing we can shove under the front and rear. I'd like to fit a 275 on all 4 corners.
There is also another alternative that I won't reveal until I can confirm they will actually make wheels for my application, but if they will, the end result should be REAL different, period correct, and stunning. I'm not so much a fan of the Team3 and Vintage Wheel works knockoffs. They don't look right to me, although they would work in a pinch. They're just not my first choices. I've also been in touch with BBS USA about a set of modular racing wheels like Big Red runs. Gold on Gold could be pretty cool, but at $4300 for a set, its a pricy option :_paranoid I desperately need some street rubber so its a top priority for me, along with the cage. Part of me wishes I had kept 12" brakes so I could run the white letter goodyears on legit magnesium minilites. I know of a set for sale. But one track day on the OEM style brakes was enough to convince me I needed a proper braking system. I'm simply pushing the car too hard to be skimping on things like safety and brakes. Will keep everyone in the loop on the wheel situation, I'm excited about it. Quote:

Dane: Frank has you pretty well trained!:D Just like in the old movies. The rich people pull a cord to ring a bell, and the Butler shows up. :unibrow: Cool Dog BTW. Ty |
Lucky #7.... Smokey Yunick ran #13, so I figured I'd do the opposite, seeing as he was never able to run that camaro #13 didn't work out too well for him...
Funny thing about those magnetic meatball numbers; they fly off around 110mph or so. I've lost 4 in the history of the car. One was stolen in Beverly Hills of all places, I lost one at Cal Speedway, and I lost one at a Buttonwillow Clockwise event as well on the main straight and again at a Buttonwillow CCW event. My friend even caught it on video flying off. Here is the video, you can see it fly off the passenger door and land on the track. It flys off right as I'm braking for turn 1 at 46 seconds  That reminds me, I need to order a few spares or find a different solution and in the future, tape the leading edge down. Quote:

Totally, I'm his bitch until I get the dog door in. Might do that this week in fact. Hes ready for it. I spent the past 2 weeks trapping and removing skunks from my back yard so he can safely run around out there without getting skunked.
Caught 2 Raccoons, 2 Possums, 1 Feral Cat, and 4 Skunks. The funny part is that I'm located just above downtown Los Angeles. I'm running a Zoo over here. Quote:

Dane: Your Wilwoods, at least in that one picture you posted, look like they would work fine with the PSE wheels. Anyway, being able to actually meet the guy would be very cool. Take care. Ty |
Don't mind me. I have 4 Boston Terriers.

I think these would look right at home on your car. Not sure I even want to think about the pricing. Forgeline said hours of extra machining were involved.
http://www.forgeline.com/product_ima..._image-241.jpg I'm sure whatever you choose will look and perform killer. Can't for the reveal of this other alternative either! Matt |

I really dig your car and what you are doing with it... 'course this comes from a road racing nut so there you go :D
I like that you are using the 17s v. larger, heavier wheels... good mix of shorter sidewall on the tire while fitting the look of the vehicle and minimizing unsprung weight. You mentioned cracking 4 cross-drilled rotors... I can believe this, but don't discount gas slotting. Get them ball end milled with a few slots and this makes braking much better overall and unless someone screws up they should never crack due to that. Cross drilling creates stress concentrations around the holes and should always be avoided - at best consider rotors where the holes are cast into them, and even then they crack. But don't shy away from gas slotted rotors IMO. Lastly, been various discussions about the color, but I love the gold color and there are a lot of vintage 60s-70s cars that look great in gold with black so I say stick with it. When I was 16 two cars I really wanted in my local area was a gold/black Plymouth Satellite and a gold/white top Galaxie 500 that both sold just before I looked at them, and my first road racing experience was driving this car (gold/blue) that my old friend Mark Behne restored: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/c...61&iDNumID=628 so I am a gold muscle car nut I guess  |

I've been real sick lately so I haven't been able to drive the camaro much. I'm just getting around to getting the rear Jake's spoiler apart and get it painted/prepped for install. The new oil pan is in and after some testing off mulholland no oil pressure drops in high g turns...
At some point the speedometer gear shredded so I need to replace that as well. I need a track day so badly, but its hard to plan things when you live your life 6 hours at a time. Its like a roller coaster that never stops and isn't fun. A few of my track friends have a Spring Mountain track day planned around the same time as the Ultima Challenge. Maybe I can manage to be up there for both, either as an observer, an exhibition entry, or maybe even a competitor? How does one enter that event or is it invite only? I better get back to bed. Not feeling well :faint: |
Sorry brother! I wish you the best of luck. I will pray for you.

Sorry to hear Dane--will keep prayin for you here.
How's you new addition doing? (Can't remember the dog's name) We have a track day coming up at Button Willow on the 22nd--check out the Racing Event Thread---there are quite a few going from Nor and So Cal---hope you can make it. Would really like to see your car run. Doug |

I'm not sure I'd be in as good as shape as I am mentally without the little sucker. Hes my companion and shadow. I'm not towing out there either this time. Driving straight to the track to prove a point. :willy: |

I am waiting on mounting hardware from Jake before ripping it apart. In the mean time I've been busy as all hell getting the mini sorted. Almost got all the parts together for the R1 swap. I find it funny that I'm building a daily driver thats faster than my camaro  Its great that its keeping me busy, I've been locked in the house for up to 5 days at a time in pain so it keeps me busy doing research on parts, styles heritage etc. Its the Mr Potatohead of cars, and is a blast. The little car is no joke. If I can't get the camaro together for Buttonwillow maybe I'll bring it out instead. |
Excellent---look forward to seeing you out there. This will be my first track day----so if we run at the same time, you will get used to seeing my finger--(for the point by that is)
Great dog---I am going to be breaking down and getting one in the next couple of years---it's 3 against one here at my place, plus my wife is really hot and I am a sucker for the kids---so it's probably inevitable--- Doug |
