Time to bring this one back from the dead.
Here is one I found on the HAMB. http://www.target550.com/gallery.htm Here is another one that was on race dezert. http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/sho...-Welds....**** Alright show me what you got? |

Some real nice work going on here. Building your own tube frame chassis car is one thing, but modifying an aluminum chassis and integrating with a steel cage is only the tip of the iceberg here
http://www.ls7nsx.com/ And when you're sitting back with a cigarette after perusing all of his work, don't miss the "Miss BadWrench" link at the bottom. |
I could look at this stuff all day.

not sure if i posted this, but is anyone following Denis over on DP motorsport
if you dig through the site the DP1 goes from rough sketch to rip roaring prototype and then through a number of iterations etc some amazing design and fab work http://dpcars.net/ home made carbon/honeycomb tub http://dpcars.net/dp1v8/dp1021.jpg serious geometry and attention to detail http://dpcars.net/dp1v8/dp1024.jpg http://dpcars.net/dp1v8/dp1025.jpg 500bhp, 1000lbs, 4x4, with proper downforce etc http://dpcars.net/dplite/dp4363.jpg http://dpcars.net/dplite/dp4364.jpg |

I always look over the site once a week, some amazing work going on. His findings on the weakness of the ariel atom design were interesting but not suprising if you've ever met Simon saunders the guy that oversaw the initial design by Nick Smart, who was a student at the time
I'l like to see the DP4 style rear end under a pro touring car, suitably beeferd up |

This was an open house at Pinkees a few weeks ago.

Did you guys notice the falconer V12 on 32 ford? I thought those engines were similar urban legends as arao 4-valve heads.. |
I have always wanted to use this engine in something. So amazing looking

I was absolutely blown away by this Viper from SEMA. It takes a lot to get me excited about a car anymore - I think the last car that made me lose it was the Gforce Cuda. I don't like show cars especially over the top show car builds, but over the top functional builds turn my crank.
Check out this bad boy: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010...dge-viper.aspx And then follow along on the 250 fab photos here: (appetite whet- most of us just connect a drain line from the turbos to the oil pan - these guys hand built (of course) little drain tanks complete with strainers and air separator AND vent line ! Look like little jewels. And that manifold - take me away to the fainting couch !) click on 3 link, "Bob's Viper" http://www.twinsturbo.com/component/...ery2/Itemid,9/ |
My watts link for the falcon.

Thanks for the post Preston. That is kick ass stuff. Now lets see some more. I saw something else a week or so ago, but figured this thread was dead. Hmm what was that.....

There is some incredible craftsmanship in this thread! Hopefully my contributions are on par.
Hopefully I didn't overlook someone else posting this already. The scratch built Lamborghini Countach: http://www.kiengineering.com/The_Bull.php http://www.kiengineering.com/images/...ssis_small.jpg http://www.kiengineering.com/images/...7f/62small.jpg And this one comes from a slightly different crowd but hopefully it fits in this thread; Mk1 Golf by Eurowise: http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=11983 http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC_0821.jpg |

I'll never really understand what drives guys to build these over the top show cars but some nice work on them. I'm especially not into the "cover all the functionality with smoothed out metal" mentality, but definitely takes some skill and vision. I know one thing, any car with that kind of power, hell, any car that is driven will need work and you'd be looking at 24+ hours of labor just to disassemble the front end and tape off everything to do basic maintenance.
I'd take Bob Griffith's Viper every day of the week over a dozen Ridler cars whether I'm driving, showing, or racing. Like I said, I don't understand it, but good for them. I like keeping craftsmen employed. |
Oh man, is this a great thread!!! I really, really, needed this! Thanks Ironworks for starting it and everyone who contributed. I have been struggling with keeping my focus and getting anything done lately - this helps! :hail:

17 years to build a Lambo? Whew, I thought my project took a long time. That might be the strangest build I have ever read about.

Nope your way off it is a 1937.
1937 Talbot-Lago – Type 150-C-SS/Sport Coupe Much admired for its distinct body design called “goutte d’eau” or Tear Drop, this car was a wedding gift for the fourth wife of an Indian prince. This chassis (#90107) is the most unique of the 14 coupes built — it’s the only one with fully skirted front and rear aluminum fenders, all aluminum body, a sunroof and painted (not chromed) wheels. This is also one of only two Talbot-Lagos with the cloisonné hood ornament in the shape of a royal crown, testifying to the cars Royal Indian heritage. Engine Type: OHV, Hemi, In-Line Six, triple carburetors Cylinders: 6 Horsepower: 140+ Manufacturer: Automobiles Talbot-Darracq (Paris, France) Coachbuilder: Figoni & Falaschi (Paris, France) Price When New: $4,873 (chassis only) To be exact. |
